JLB Review, Frarmingdale, NY. - Sunday, April 17, 2005 1:17 AM
Coming soon, working on it right now.

But just to hold you off for a few (especially you ladies), JLB's crotch was in my face several times. Lots of great people there...The band was kickass. Pictures and review coming in a few minutes.

RE: JLB Review, Frarmingdale, NY. - Sunday, April 17, 2005 1:47 AM
@Cassie and everyone else, it's 1:45am. I've been awake since Saturday morning, 5am. If my spelling sucks, leave me alone about it. You can figure it out.

Alright...here goes...

So my brother dropped me off at the venue around 7ish. There were two other people there. YtseDan (whom I know from another board), and his friend (who I of course forgot his name). Anyway, we formed a line, and lots of other people started coming. Met some really nice people, including ImLearningToLive and Chad4Yew (others too, sorry guys, bad memory). We all decided that once we were allowed in, we'd all get spots in the front, and the guys would let me have dead center because I was the girl.

Around 8:10pm they let us in, and holy crap, yes, we did get the first row...right infront of the stage. I was directly infront of the two drumsets...it was then that I knew I'd be near crotch level with JLB (sorry, I'm obsessed with his crotch, I know that I'm not the only one). Anyway, lots of people started pilling in, I was supposed to meet up with some MP.com people, but kinda gave up, as I'd rather have JLB's crotch in my face than stand waaaay back.

The show finally started. It was some opening band. Don't remember the name, but they were GREAT! The drummer was a female (woot). The bassist was a badass fucker...and the guitarist was AWESOME! Nobody was too much into them though...sometimes local opening bands are frowned upon.

JLB's band finally took the stage (at this point we were all smiles and giggling like little six year olds with no weekend homework), and then JLB did...OMFG, I though I was going to die...He was really right there. He was so close that yes, I could have grabbed his crotch, as well as pants him (tempting). Oh yeah...I was the only girl in so close up to stage, and yes, for a bit I was headbanging.

JLB sung so freaking awesome. He was great. I thought it would be really weird without seeing the rest of DT up on stage, but it wasn't. The rest of the band was really awesome. My favorite was the guitarist. He was playing a JP sig!!! The bassist was soooo awesome and was getting everyone to headbang. The drummer threw sticks to two of my friends to the left of me. The keyboardist was kickass, but I wasn't watching him so much, as JLB's crotch was constantly in my face.

I love the interaction that JLB had/has with the audience at every show that he does. I mean, the whole crotch in my face was great. My face was also covered in his saliva (my mission of the night), and dude, I love when he touches people's hands. I think that's so awesome. Oh and yes, I touched his hand...as well as the rest of the guys.

My only complaint is some of the people inback of us. I literally had to yell at this guy because he was all up in my friend's ass. Seriously. After I yelled at everyone inback of us they pretty much kept their distance...from me atleast.

Anyway, sorry for such a crappy review and talking so much about JLB's crotch...but I figure hey, I don't give a shit because you people didn't have JLB's crotch in your face (the things that make you happy, eh?).

If the pictures don't work, you're screwed, because I am exhausted.

what was the turnout in terms of crowd numbers?

I guess it's irrelvant to me since I'm in MN and not going to get to see any of the shows, but had I, I would have loved him to do His Voice which is the best song I've heard from anything James's done outside of DT IMO.

It's funny, cause it was taped on the floor right infront of my friend to the left of me and we kept looking at it. JLB says on the mic "This kid right here keeps looking at the setlist. You know buddy, you can have that if you want, I have another one in the back". Then he shook his hand and gave him a drumstick. I was green with envy.

There was another one that I had that would be perfect for a 'caption this'. too tired now to find it.

would highheels help? ..j/k

that's too bad. I think it was like 2 years ago I saw Jack Black on 1 of the talk shows promoting School of Rock and he mentioned he wanted to create some sort of "upscope" thing to wear on yer shoulders that would allow shorter concert-goers to see over taller folks in front of them (altho in your case tonite it sounds like you were in the front) or I guess behind them as well.

sorry Steph, had I been there, I'd have tried to look for ya .

I've got a good JLB crotch story...

It was during the summer of 95 and DT was doing one off dates for the summer locally and the final show was somwhere in long island....a small club in the Hamptons if I am not mistaken....and this particular night was sort of a bad wardrobe night for James.....he came out wearing these skin tight bicycle shorts if I remember correctly...I yelled out that I would be happy to loan him my pants if he forgot his....but I don't think he heard me...

@ Kyle- pssh, Cecilia wearing high heels in general? Unhead of.

Thanks though Kyle, you wouldn't have been able to find me. My friends literally were surrounding me (until that fucking midget bitch...)

@ KeithK- I was actually hoping that his zipper would be open. But hell...I don't care anymore, his crotch was in my face, I'm a HAPPY woman!

@ mastakilla- Dude...I know you're a dude and all, but JLB looked so HOT last night. Those jeans looked "SO GOOD" (reference anyone? ) on him. It's like the jeans that you want your boyfriend to buy.

The opening band was The Rob Balducci Band, off Vai's Favored Nations label. He is incredible. He plays in NY quite often since he's from there. www.robbalducci.com

The band and James did a great job last night. As for the turnout, I didn't try to do a headcount or anything, but the place wasn't packed. Still a decent-sized crowd, probably somewhere around 150-200 people. James seemed appreciative. He said something to the effect that "Long Island always comes through".

The comment James made about the setlist to Celia's friend was pretty funny .

RE: JLB Review, Frarmingdale, NY. - Sunday, April 17, 2005 10:32 AM
Great show. I stood to near the soundboard and the bassist about 3 feet from the stage for the entire show, versus wandering around during the Poughkeepsie and Sayreville shows. The songs sounded better each night I heard them. I think of all the shows, James was the most talkative, and both he and the band we on fire the most for the Farmingdale show. He accidentally said something to the effect: "we're going to play some "Emerson Lake and Palmer" before one of his songs. A very funny slip.

The bassist and guitarist came up to the back of the line outside before the show, so a couple of us talked to them for a bit. Two of the most down to earth people and genuine people you could meet.

Talked to James for a minute after the show in the cellar area of the Downtown club. He is always a class act to talk to, and is very sincere. He signed for me the liner notes of his new CD.

Great memories of a nice weekend in seeing all 3 shows.

Actually that picture is just not the most flattering. Last night at the show I was actually thinking to myself how it looked like he LOST few pounds. He looked and sounded absolutely phenomenal.

The place was pretty full which James seemed to be happy about. The crowd was really cool and was really into the show the whole time.

James was very talkative and interactive throughout the show. At one point he even joked about the "massive US tour that they were wrapping up tonight" and made a comment to the effect of "I think we covered enough ground in the US with these three dates... theres only like 3 places to play in the US anyway right?"

It just flat out rocked.... you da man James!!!

RE: JLB Review, Frarmingdale, NY. - Sunday, April 17, 2005 11:16 AM
Got to the venue at around 8 p.m. and the line was down the block (good to see the NY/LI fans following their "passion"). Downtown had a weird policy about tickets. Even if you had tickets you still needed to go to the box office to exchange the regular ticket with an "arcade-like" ticket. So getting into the venue was kind of slow. But the time I got in, there was no chance of meeting up with you Steph. Anyway, myself and the YtseJim family found a great spot in the back where we grabbed a few stools (which made me real happy because I'm getting too old to stand up for four hours at a show).

The Rob Balducci Band was excellent. Rob's like the poor man's Satch and could have been mistaken for Petrucci on some songs. The band was tight, especially the drummer (who, coincidentally, is a friend of YtseJim's fiance). Too bad his new album wasn't available. I would have snatched it up in a heartbeat. For the most part, the crowd seemed to like them, except for one guy who yelled that they should leave the stage (more on this guy later).

Even though I have all of his solo albums, I don't know any of the LaBrie songs by heart, so it was like hearing a band for the first time. Man, these guys were impressive, like they have been playing together for years. The guitarist and drummer were especially impressive. I'd review my favorite/least favorite songs, but I couldn't even tell you the names. The European fans who see this show are in for a treat.

Time for a rant: So when did concert goers become so inconsiderate of those around them? The guy who yelled for the Balducci band to get off the stage decided that when James came on, that he would stand up on his chair. Now, if he was in the back and had nobody behind him, I could understand, but anyone (including myself) who was behind him had a great view of his back, and little else. After a couple of songs, I had enough and asked him to sit down. He obliged without a problem, which was cool, but he never should have been standing on his chair in the first place.

New attitude. I'm tired of taking people's shit. More to it if you're interested.

It really was a great show. Thanks to the others for covering everything else. I am so freaking...exhuasted. And I still can't hear (that's how you know that show kicked ass).

Great show...

Wasn't familiar with any of the JLB stuff beforehand and was pleasantly surprised with how strong it was musically. Here's some random observations/thoughts:

-Marco really was awesome. I think moreso than for JLB, he's the reason I'm gonna buy the Elements of Persuasion.

-The keyboardist just didn't fit in with the look of the rest of the guys. When I pointed this out to fellow forumer A Change of Stevens, he felt that the guy looked like he belonged in a Sublime cover band.

-The club definitely wasn't packed and it was easy to get to and from the bar and bathrooms, so using that as an indicator and from past experiences at the Downtown, no the turnout was not tremendous but actually more than I expected from a LI crowd that seems to enjoy cover bands more than anything. We walked in just as JLB started and were still able to grab a pretty good spot. Parking also wasn't an issue.

-Thankfully, I was nowhere near JLB's crotch.
What pretension! Everlasting peace. Everything must cease.

I flew down to LGA Thursday from Rochester and rented a car, but stayed in a hotel for Sayreville and Poughkeepsie. Saturday: stayed at one of my brother's homes in Fairfiled, CT for the Farmingdale show. Evil and DrumRman stayed at the same hotel as me in Poughkeepsie.

I actually *think* you bumped into me at Sayreville when you came up near the left of the stage to take some photos at one point.

I actually *think* you bumped into me at Sayreville when you came up near the left of the stage to take some photos at one point.

Why the hell didn't you say something, dummy?

Did I say excuse me? Were you the guy that stepped aside and let me get in front of you?? If so, thanks. But ya still should've said something.....dummy!

I am guilty, guilty of dummy-ness. I'm sorry...next time I'll check to see if we're at the same show. Yes, I'm the guy who stepped aside.
Go far enough and you will reach, A place where the sea runs underneath.
