I'm surprised you didn't put that blasted Fear of a Blank album on your list. Smart man.

For me Scorpions, Humanity Hour I and Depeche Mode's Playing the Angel are among the best I have heard this year but I haven't heard too much either. Honorable mention definitely goes to Snakes and Arrows by Rush. On the flip side I was VERY disappointed in Megadeth's new one United Abominations. A lifeless attempt to recapture The System Has Failed. I couldn't really even finish the album and the remake of To All the World (my French spelling is horrible), made we want to listen to the original which is vastly superior.

I was just thinkin' that even though there are about 10 other threads like this, they probably should have waited. Therefore, this one is probably the most appropriately timed. I agree with Suave on Nightwish. That album is nonstop symphonic metal mayhem. The girl sings great, and has an outstanding array of musicians behind her. +1 on Humanity hour 1 as well. Best scorpions in a while. Symphony X and DT dished out great albums, too. Rush, Megadeth, Threshold, and alot more honorable mentions. This was a great year for music. Can't say enough about the albums that were released this year.

Systematic Chaos Scarsick Snakes and Arrows Sola Scruptura. It was a good year for the letter 'S'. Heres to my most aliterative post ever.

Thrice - The Alchemy Index Vol. I & II Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet are the two "givens" I can think of. SC has it's moments but as a whole album it doesn't make it. Same with Scarsick, *love* 4-5 songs but as a whole album... nah.

I'm actually surprised to not see more votes for FOABP. Easily the best album, not only of 2007, but of this decade......IMHO anyway.

This year's releases have been a bit of a mixed bag. The big albums by Marillion, Blackfield, DT, Rush and PT were OK but certainly nothing special. The best two albums were from bands I didn't even know anything about until this year which at least suggests Progressive Rock, Metal is on the up. Anyway here is my favourite 5. (1) Fair to Midland - Fables from a Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times Is True (2) Oceansize - Frames (3) Marillion - Somewhere Else (4) Biffy Clyro - Puzzle (5) Porcupine Tree - FOABP

ORIGINAL: gazinwales Slightly OT here, but Matt, did you know there is a version of this, UK/Europe, that has 4 bonus tracks and a live DVD from the current tour? Let me know if you want it and I'll see what I can do. Yep, my buddy's already got it on order. When he gets it, I'll check out the bonus tracks to see if they're worth me picking up the CD, as well. As for the live DVD, it sounds like it would be awesome to see, but it's PAL only. So, I wouldn't be able to view it anywhere but in my PC. If they hadn't already filmed the Eindhoven show for a DVD, I would probably be more inclined to try to hunt this CD/DVD down. Thanks for the offer, though, Graham! Speaking of WT, one thing that I do definitely still have to hunt down is the new "All I Need" single for the unreleased bonus track.
