Redemption's THE ORIGINS OF RUIN - The Music Video! Friday, April 13, 2007 9:00 PM (permalink)
Alright guys, as I have mentioned before, here is the music video I just shot last night for Redemption's song The Origins of Ruin. IMO, this is my best work so far, especially since this is the first time I used a crane. I also decided to use this piece to focus on lighting and cinematography in general.

Also note that this isn't an official music video for the band, I'm just a big fan. Besides, the music fit well for what this project is supposed to be, which is a mood piece. The whole set was based off of the album cover, which is in my avatar. Here's a larger version anyway:

Anyway, I hope you guys like it and if you do, please check out my other short films as well! If you have any feedback whatsoever, I'd love to hear. Always looking to improve!

Oh yeah, and coming soon (we're shooting within the next few weeks), will be The Dance of Eternity music video! Should be amazing and I can't wait to show it to you guys! Enjoy!

Yeah, I just watched in on YouTube for the first time and because of its white background, it's really difficult to see some of the shots . That crane is pretty sweet, but I'm still getting used to doing slow, deliberate movements with less jerkiness.

Thanks for your feedback, PiST0N. Always good to hear someone likes my work .

        Very cool...

I love the band, the song, and now the video.

If I had one complaint, it would be the way you timed the camera jumps to the hits in the music in the last bit of the song.  That kind of thing has always bothered be a bit... I'm not sure why.  It just seems so cheesy, especially after the smoothness of the rest of the video.  It's too jarring, imho.  I could see one jump, on the first hit, but not the rest.

        Just one guys opinion though.

Yeah, with the end, I really wanted to emphasize the fact that this guy is completely alone. Because those cuts were at the end, to me, it emphasizes that even more, not to mention the fact that he gets smaller and smaller as the room only gets larger.

If you think about it, it wouldn't exactly make sense to keep the smooth transitions when you've got music that gives you very obvious beats during which to put cuts. So it was either transition slowly, transition quickly, or cut. To me, cutting was the wisest choice if not also the most obvious. Thanks for your input, though.

I actually thought the cut at the end worked quite well for this very short, very cool piece of music.  Well done!

Very well done indeed. And I must respectfully disagree with tusic: the quick jumps near the end were appropriate, and all the more effective after the smooth fades done earlier.

The video never seems to tell a story or resolve itself in some way, but then again neither does the song. I could easily imagine this as a small part of a storytelling whole.

You should definitely send this in to the band!
