Just got Arjen's Lost In The New Real Album in the mail!

Got surprised today by this baby. Haven't played it yet but the artwork is amazing!!

Let me know how it is!  I've been really curious and want to check it out but have other things to buy first...

It's interesting for me to hear he went front and center with doing much of the vocals himself on this album, because I'm mostly familiar with the Ayreon / Star One material, which is the exact opposite of "How many different singers can I invite onto this album?"

Production is top notch. The album is good although I think it won't top Star One Victims of Modern Age at all. It's more experimental, less heavier and has a few acoustic guitar moments.
Won't spoil it anymore. This one will definitely need more spins to see if it grows.

I received mine on monday. Totally unexpected, as i had just received the "we're starting to ship orders" email 2 days before. I've only listened to the first half of disc 1, but i'm really enjoying it. I think Arjen's voice really works for this material, and hey, who can knock something with Rutger Hauer on it?

Have you noticed that the building in the distance on the cover and in close up in the centre of the digi-book is the same building as on the Universal Migrator album,thus linking it to the Ayreon albums concept? Yes it`s cheesy,but in a good way! On the bonus disc his version of Welcome To The Machine is damn heavy!

The coverversions are really well done, especially Battle of Evermore, and love the twist on I´m the slime! 

I love the album...maybe it's kinda cheesy, but still....Love the second disc..Welcome to the machine and I'm the slime are really well done! great covers and indeed damn heayvy!

I must say that the self production on Arjen`s albums is always excellent,putting discs by bigger artists to shame.

Sadly I'm probably no longer very interested in Arjen's output, but I'd love to hear some covers like the ones mentioned above.

Got my personalized copy today. I won it on Facebook, and though I've never actually delved into his catalog, the packaging alone has me excited to pop this thing in. Which I am doing right... now.

Dobe,check out The Human Equation,excellent concept album that has a final twist that ties it into the continuity of all the Ayreon albums,including Lost In The New Real,the guest vocalists and music are exemplary.

Pre ordered it today. Liked what I've read about it.

I made the mistake of putting this album in the same pre-order with the new tesseract ep which comes out the 22nd, so I still have a while to wait (in fanboy time) for my cd to come in the mail :(

Just walked into the record store. They were playing some nice rockmusic over the speakers.
Anyway, I was there to search for Arjen's new cd. Couldn't find it in the hardrock section so I asked the clerk: Yes we have it, you are listening to it :)
 
He couldn't find the cd case as well, so he went searching, it was labelled under pop 8-)
Anyway, I now have the cd in my possession, just have to wait for the drive home to listen to it.

Listenting to Disc 1 for the 2nd time today.  A very different album from Arjen compared to the Ayreon albums, but so far I'm glad I bought it.  
 
I wonder if the tracks (not the covers) will be cohesive to the story to merge them into a playlist that would complete the album.  Anyone try this yet?

I have been spinning this album on a regular basis for the last few weeks (almost every other day) and I must say that I like the second disc a little bit better than the first one....amazing album!

When I first heard "The New Real" I thought of Porcupine Tree's "Sleep Together".

Now that I have listened to the whole thing, I think that  I'm The Slime is my favorite track.  Really like the way he did that.
 
I actually really liked the whole thing, on the first disc I think my favorites are Pink Beatles In A Purple Zeppelin, When I'm A Hundred Sixtyy-Four, Where Pigs Fly & Lost In The New Real.  I guess I shouldn't say favorites, those 4 tracks really stood out to me for some reason.

It looks like the US release was stripped down and does not include the video clips.  It came in a Digipack instead of a Mediabook and there is no mention of the videos at all on the back cover.  I see no extra files at all on the disks.  Why they would go to the trouble of making a second set of glass masters, I'll never know.  If Inside Out is going to keep giving less features to the US audience (as they did for the recent Star One release IIRC), they need to restore their US website so that we can see exactly what we are getting before we order.  The European website makes it look like all releases will have the video files (though with the very garbled track list, it is clear that they put no effort on the page anyway).  I miss the days when Inside Out was a great label.

I dunno about 'very different'.  Still sounds like Arjen to me.  He's just got signature moves - instrumentation, writing style, etc.  But that's okay, 'cause I dig what he does.  And him being the only vocalists doesn't really limit my enjoyment in any way - which I expected it to.  So, basically, I'm diggin' it.

This - on most of the songs he has a good voice that suits the music very well.
Overall it is a bit less heavy than his other work. I really like it.
 
I only had some problems ripping the cd so I could put it on my mp3-player. Probably because of the videotracks on it.

That is so cool that he covered "Some Other Time" from The Alan Parson's Project. The APP is one of the greatest bands of all time and it is awesome to see an excellent musician like Arjen cover them. Anyone who doesn't know The APP is missing out on some incredible art rock/prog rock.
