robau94 My brother and I are road tripping to Chicago precisely because Marillion and DT are touring at the same time - seeing Marillion on Friday and DT on Saturday. If I'm not mistaken, Marillion announced their Saturday night show (at the same time as DT) has sold out, but tickets remain for the night before. I may see you at the Friday show, and nice thought about road tripping to catch DT in the same weekend. However, I still think it was pretty short-sighted of the promoters to book the Dream Theater show the very same night of the 2nd show. I know some of the tickets for the Chicago show(s) are still available, although if Saturday is sold out, that partially takes the promoters off the hook. But, that still doesn't mean the Friday show would not have sold more tickets if some folks only could afford 1 concert that weekend, and chose Dream Theater instead

Going to the 2 LA shows (plus the Death tribute gig days earlier and the Dream Theater San Francisco date). Who's with me!?

angra1 However, I still think it was pretty short-sighted of the promoters to book the Dream Theater show the very same night of the 2nd show. I wish there was a way of doing a survey or something, because I'd bet my Marillion catalogue (which is almost complete, vinyl up through Holidays in Eden and CD) that the number of people that didn't go to one show SPECIFICALLY because they were on the same night (as opposed to not being able to spend the $120 to see both regardless of when they were, or maybe didn't want to see two concerts in one week, etc.) is countable on one person's fingers and toes (and I'm not assuming you have all 20. ;) ). With 10,000 tickets sold over the entire United States for 13 shows (and knowing that many of those are multiple purchases, traveling to gigs) I think this grossly overstates the demand for both bands. Even assuming that the promoters were aware of what was going on, I can see one or both going: "Hmm, I can lose 15 tickets that night, or spend $x,000 re-rerouting the tour, paying for hotel rooms, etc. to accomodate two different nights..."

from Marillion's facebook: We're leaving on Thursday for the tour and we're excited and nervous all at the same time! 10,000 of you have bought tickets so far and we're very grateful for that but, believe it or not, we need to sell more if we stand a chance of coming home with our shirts on our backs, so please keep spreading the word - oh and keep the sunshine waiting for us - we can't wait to escape the British 'Summer' rain! Looks like my estimate that they were already breaking even with 10 000 tickets was a little off. Man touring is expensive.

I know times are tough, etc., but I'm surprised that they're not doing better on the ticket sales. It's not like they tour the US that often.

I'm sure they will still have their conventions in Montreal, but if you ever wanted to see Marillion show, this is likely your last shot. (Unless you hit a convention and/or fly overseas.)

Guess it's time to finally pre-order this since the new songs I heard played live a little more than 24 hours ago are up the the Marillion standard I know and love.

Interesting article about Marillion's history and the making of the new album. Now, please excuse me while I clean the drool off of my keyboard.

Nice article, Bails. I was just going to post it. Excited about the longer tracks. As much as they tried to downplay the progressive label a few years ago, Marillion has never really shied away from making progressive styled music. Can't wait for September (fingers crossed that they finish it by then).

It's miles ahead of the lead single from HITR, Whatever is Wrong with You. Or See it Like a Baby for that matter. I love the overall production and vibe. If this is the weakest track, we're in for a heck of an album.

I definitely enjoyed this one when they played it in Toronto, so awesome to hear a studio version of it. I can't believe how lucky I am to be seeing them again for two nights in Amsterdam on Monday and Tuesday!!

Shit shit shit. I told myself after Flying Colors, ADToE (Dream Theater), ADKoT (Van Halen), and CA (Rush) that I was DONE with clips and pre-release on-line nonsense... and yet I bit and listened to this. And I don't like it. At all. Except for the last minute and a half or so. I'm sure after a dozen listens, like Anoraknophophia, I'll think higher of it, but I'm mad at myself for putting myself in this position. :)

Pretty much. First day buyer (may even pre-order if it hasn't expired yet) and I'll probably love it, since all the others I listed are in competition for my album of the year. Well, except for ADToE; but it was better than the clips seemed to indicate.

Oh man, I love this song! Very good sign. As far as "See it Like a Baby", it might be the worst song they have written. I think it is the only Marillion song I don't like honestly.

Yeah, it really does seem like Marillion likes to send their weakest album tracks out to the public first. Of course, I love this song so far.

I think Power is a new Marillion classic. The mood in the song, the combination of the laid back verses and the rising chorus, the jingle jangle / tingle tangle interplay. Classy.
