The "making of" video "Funky Monks" is great as well.

I can't believe how time goes so fast... the tour behind this album had openers Pearl Jam (10) and The Smashing Pumpkins (Gish).

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (DarkElf)

It didn't take long for it to click for me...but when it did

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (dworkshop1)

this and mothers milk are such kick ass albums. when i play them for people alot of the time they dont even know its the peppers and thats pretty funny. 2 of my all time favorites. blending the funk and rock.

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (chemistry class)

BSSM is so outdated. Different from what i use to listen (heavy & prog) but i really love it.

I love 'one hot minute' and 'californication' too but but i don't like their last album.

This is an awesome masterpiece though.

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (Cinderella)

Well, I think it's pretty obvious that I love them...

BSSM is the album that made me discover the RHCP.
Great opus. My favorite song of all time is 'Suck My Kiss'.
All the songs are great. It's even better once you've seen the 'Funky Monks' DVD, which is the recording of BSSM, because you see that they really use everything they can to get great sounds and it's really fun to watch.

'My Lovely Man' was written for Hillel Slovak, who was their first guitar player and who died from an OD in 1988.

John Frusciante is a fantastic guitar player and he's juste released a chain of 6 albums in 6 months. I have to admit I don't love them all, but the last one, 'Curtains', is for me an acoustic wonder.

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (movie fanatic 86)

It's simply RHCP at their best. This was during my brief "Alternative Period". I used to listen to Peppers, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden.

Chili Peppers are the only band I still listen to from that period.

Plus, Chad used to be in a band here in Detroit called Toby Redd and my band used to open for them all the time. Soooooo, of course I have to listen to the Chilis and support the man!

I love the Chili Pepper sound. Great Band!

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (sirpsychosexy)

 <-----------------See Nick

One of my favourite albums of all time... I learned to play drums listening to that album. There is always something new that I didn't hear before... Good for a thousand listens at least.

Fav tracks are: Naked in the Rain (that bass solo, although short, is awesome), The Greeting Song, My Lovely Man, If You have to Ask... Shit, I love em all!

RHCP is definately one of my favourite bands of all time... Although I think they started to slip with One Hot Minute, and never quite recovered (despite John Frusciante re-joining the band). Just my 2 cents, but BSSM > Everything after.

Still love them though! If I hadn't already been playing drums when I first heard that album, I definately would have picked up the Bass.

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (TheDanceOfMaternity)

I think that Californiacation was there best album, but I love this one too.

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (ClintonP)

This is one of the first albums I learned on bass from front to back. Very magical album for sure.

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (Katz)

The first album I really 'loved'

Years later I still know it word for word, even when I haven't listened to it for 2 years I'll still throw it on and know all the changes and lyrics. For me, this album is magical. It was before I learned any theory, and the 'magic' of music was still there.

My favs: I Could Have Lied, Breaking the Girl, Sir Psycho Sexy, Under the Bridge, Apache Rose Peacock..

Fuck, the whole album owns.

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (willyz)

 I'll bite.

Great album all around, probably the best album the Chilli Peppers put out.

RE: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK Appreciation thread (GrayFox2455)

Deffinitely, there is something in it that everyone can agree on. I liked the Chilis starting with Mother's Milk but when this album hit the streets, I was blown away. I don't think they ever topped this one, I think this will prove to be the centerpiece of their career.

Having recently read Anthony Keidis' book "Scar Tissue" (a fascinating read - highly recommended!), I have been in a Chilis mood lately - and this is the album that delivers for me every time. There isn't a skipper on this one (and it's a long album!), and I love the variety, the playing and the production. Chad kicks ass on this album! Favorite tracks: "Breaking The Girl", "The Power Of Equality", "The Greeting Song" and the classic "Sir Psycho Sexy", which suddenly turns into a gorgeous instrumental with bluesy guitar and mellotron(!) of all things.

An absolute classic. I recommend it to all of you - and to those of you who already know how cool this album is: revisit!
