When Dream And Day Unite: Afterlife--Very pensive lyrics, well-sung, and the music on all counts is charged with emotion.
Runner-up: Only A Matter Of Time

Images And Words: Learning To Live--From one of my top 3 albums, this song is the epitome of Dream Theater never forgetting that melody is important, and of course the Myung lyrics are beyond amazing!
Runner-up: Metropolis Pt. I

Awake: Scarred--A song that I can probably relate to the most, it is probably the one song that summed up my adolescence, so I enjoy the nostalgic feel.
Runner-up: Erotomania

Falling Into Infinity: Trial Of Tears--Probably holds the best instrumental break in Dream Theater's career, from JP's solo to the fantastic rhythmic support from JM and MP for Sherinian's massive keys solo; and again, Myung's lyrics tell more with each listen.
Runner-up: Lines In The Sand

Scenes From A Memory: Finally Free--Incredibly well-conceived song and perfect ending to an otherwise perfect album; LaBrie just shines completely for me.
Runner-up: Fatal Tragedy

Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence: The Great Debate--A song that deals with a divided issue and the music only makes the song so mesmerizing with it's progressive texture.
Runner-up: The Glass Prison

Train Of Thought: Stream Of Consciousness--One of the better instrumentals I have heard where everyone just manages to really show their full potential playing- and songwriting-wise.
Runner-up: Endless Sacrifice

Octavarium: Octavarium--The quintessential Dream Theater song; need I say more?
Runner-up: Sacrificed Sons

Systematic Chaos: In The Presence Of Enemies--More specifically, part two, since it just gets me pumped to battle any injustice.
Runner-up: Constant Motion

Black Clouds And Silver Linings: The Shattered Fortress--A marvelous close to the AA saga, and my favorite Portnoy lyric thus far, and the compilation parts mesh well with the new parts.

Images and Words - Metropolis Pt. 1- simply epic, and still gives me thrills and chills
Awake - Erotomania- Amazing batch of melodies and odd time, one of my favorite JP solos
Falling into Infinity - New Millenium-great opening riff and the first FII song I heard
SFAM - so many good ones here, have to go with Fatal Tragedy
Six Degrees - Blind Faith- great feel and lyrical, groovy stuff
TOT - Stream of Consciousnes - Favorite instrumental next to TDoE, simply badass
Octavarium - title track, it's so rich with beautiful, true Dream Theater music
Systematic Chaos - ItPoE I & II- great story that sucks you in, with great music to boot
BC&SL - The Count of Tuscany- Amazing journey of a song, shows DT can still write ambitious epics

When Dream & Day Unite :: Only A Matter of Time
Love the lyrics, so catchy and so is the music. Awesome ending.

Again great lyrics... didn't like it in the begining back in '92... but this song grow and grow and now it's one of my favorite DT songs ever!

Awake :: A Mind Beside Itself (Erotomania/Voices/The Silent Man).
Now this is prog at it's very best! 10/10

Falling Into Infinity :: Hell's Kitchen/Lines In The sand
One of DT's best instrumentals to date... and JP's solo in LITS still gets me everytime. Perfect!

Scenes From A Memory :: The Spirit Carries On
My favorite DT ballad. The Score dvd version I like even better... the crowd, the reaction of MP to the crowd in the end... goosebumps.

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence :: SDOIT
What can I say? 43 minutes of pure adrenaline.

Train of Thought :: Honor Thy Father
Awesome song! That intro, SICK! JP's riffing, gets you by the throaght. Love what JR did with the samples from ''Magnolia'' in the middle section... really suits the song.

Octavarium :: Octavarium
DT goes old skool prog = WIN!!!! Love every minute of it. James and JP in the end... just wow!

Systematic Chaos :: The Ministry Of Lost Souls
James shines on this one. Classic DT epic!

Black Clouds & Silver Linings :: The Count of Tuscany
Just when you thought they have been there, done that... they come up with this. One the best intro's ever made... catchy and awesome chorus.... JP solo break in the middle (no one saw that coming)... the end... one of James finest moments. And yes, those lyrics... I love it!!! Gotta love JP's humor.

WDADU- The killing hand - The live version of it in WDADRU has made it a personal favourite of mine. Epic, old style metal, proggy parts and dark atmosphere. Love it.

I&W - Learning to live - Great atmosphere especially during the verses, love the solo and that small acoustic part, the F# and generally the epicness all over it.

Awake - Scarred - Love the lyrics, JLB's performance and I think that it's the song that characterises better the ''sound & style'' of Awake.

FII - Trial of Tears - It was hard for me to choose this one over LITS and HK but Myung's lyrics, the ''breezing'' beginning, and (again) the atmosphere of the song has made it my favourite of the album.

SFAM - Fatal Tragedy - Don't know why exactly. It's just the one I like the most, plus the face-melting JP solo.

6DOIT - Jesus! Do I actually have to choose between Misunderstood, The Great Debate and Blind Faith? It's quite a lot already that I have left out Glass Prison and Six Degrees. Well...just to avoid the confusion I'll go with Dissapear 'cause it shows really well that DT have no limits towards any direction and can compose all kinds of great stuff.

TOF - Stream of Conciousness. Tough choice but it's the only song that keeps me on the edge of my seat everytime I listen to it. Real energy throughout the whole thing.

Octavarium - Octavarium - Love the whole album but this one has it all. Mellow moments, heavy riffs, great lyrics, the definition of an epic ending solo and it also sums up the whole nugget-midfuck this album offers.

SC - Not a huge fan of the album. Anyway, I pick TMOLS. That ''out of the blue'' section in the middle is what keeps this song from beeing a DT classic. All else is awesome.

BC&SL - Best of Times - Great intro, fantastic guitar work, major tonality at points, old school-DT feel at other points, touching lyrics and an awesome ala-Randy Rhoads ending solo.

I only listed songs from albums that I own:

The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun - There's just something dreamlike about the first three minutes of the song

Wait for Sleep - Very hard to choose. Only PMU wasn't among my choices.

Innocence Faded - At first I couldn't get into it. But when it clicked, it really clicked (;

Anna Lee - This one could have been written in the 1970s! Me likey!

Finally Free - Everything between 1:30 and 4:00 is pure gold! One of DT's (many) finest moments if you ask me

Goodnight Kiss/Solitary Shell - We have a tie! I know GK and SS are parts of a SDOIT, but... I'll get me coat.

It seems like I really dig the mellower side of DT (:

A Fortune In Lies (Could also be OaMoT when James sings it, like on Budokan) Both killer tracks.

Learning to Live - Seeing that in Toronto in 2006 did it for me. Just an epic song on all accounts.

Voices - Killer samples. Awesome guitar solo. Awesome vocals from James... I miss samples :p

Trial of Tears - Would love to see this one live. A great, big-sounding, yet chill epic song. Great key work.

Fatal Tragedy - Kick. Ass.

The Glass Prison - I love a lot of the songs on disk 1, so this was hard.

In the Name of God - This is the hardest for me. I love every single song and have played the hell out of all of them. Could have been any other, with the exception of Vacant, which still manages to kick ass, however.

Octavarium - I really don't need to explain this one. Probably my favourite song from them. Also, seeing it live was an experience I would kill to have access to again...

In the Presence of Enemies - So. Many. Riffs. Runner-up is Repentance; Mellow but so win!

The Count of Tuscany - Just a really complete song. I adore the new vocal harmonies on this album and on this track they're unreal. Close runner-up being ANTR.
