(New Millenium Man)

Ugh, terrible memories of this kind of shit. Gynecomastia is actually not uncommon, and its not 'terribly' expensive to get something done about it. I go to college for music, acting, and other live performance type things, so being comfortable in my own skin is a must. It totally changed my life when I had it done, and I'm a much different person than I used to be. Surprisingly, a bunch of formerly heavy guys in my program had it done at some point..
Re:Did Fish have gynecomastia correction surgery? And yet, the Wikipedia article contains a horrible picture and no one would even bother to point that out... You have to love Wikipedia´s passive penchant for disturbing imagery.
Re:Did Fish have gynecomastia correction surgery? (flyingswordfish)

I also have this, mostly on the left side, and it's something I want to have removed at some point. Unfortunately for me, I also have pectus excavatum (funnel chest). The two together give me a rather odd physique (not that it's obvious when I'm wearing a shirt, fortunately). I've never been overly worried about either, but I'm interested in some sort of correction. Anybody know how much that kind of surgery costs?

Re:Did Fish have gynecomastia correction surgery? (Scherztastic)

Tons of celebrities/people in the acting field have been shown to have this condition, including but not limited to The Rock (Dwayne Johnson), Jack Black, John Travolta, and Simon Cowell. It's kind of hard to tell if Fish has it or not based on this picture, but it's surely possible. Surgeries to have it removes are also fairly common. All in all (speaking from personal experience) its a rather embarassing condition, but there are MUCH worse things out there and so I'm just thankful I have something so unserious in comparison.
Re:Did Fish have gynecomastia correction surgery? (Stadler)

In my opinion, I'm thinking no. In 1997, he looked even worse than the screen cap (because he was noticeably heavier) on the Sunsets on Empire tour, but then he was thinner on the Raingods tour and looked more like the screen cap above. I met him here in the States on the 13th Star tour, and I almost didn't recognize him, he was MUCH thinner than I remember, and even with the t-shirt, this condition was not noticeable.

My vote just goes to rigorous weight management, not any specific "procedure", but that is totally a guess.

Re:Did Fish have gynecomastia correction surgery? (tru2kungfu)

I can't imagine performing in any medium of art, be it music or acting, having such a condition. You'd already very self-conscious, thinking everyone is looking at you and noticing, and in the case of performance... they would indeed be looking at you.

In either case, I'm glad he got it fixed.
Re:Did Fish have gynecomastia correction surgery? (KS and RTG)

I have that on one side. It sucks. I'm lopsided, haha. It really isn't very noticable at all with a shirt on, but I rarely go topless anywhere. I would like to have it removed one day, but I've been pretty busy lately, plus the economy sucks and I lost over half of my money... You know how much that costs?
Did Fish have gynecomastia correction surgery? (TheAntipop)

I was re-watching the Marillion - Live at Lorely DVD and couldn't help notice the fact that when he was younger Fish had a clearly pronounced case of gynecomastia. This is a real embarassing issue for many men (and one I have some personal experience with). It's definitely not something we like to talk about. Here's a screen cap to illustrate what I'm talking about:

Watching the concert it was somewhat distracting at times, to be honest. Personally, I wouldn't have gone with the plain white tee, it doesn't really do anyone with this condition any favors (which is why I favor black).

Anyway, I remember someone posted a pic from backstage at NEARFest 2008 with Fish shirtless and the problem was noticeably less pronounced (I did a search but couldn't find the pic - maybe the OP can repost it).

I'm wondering if the big man had surgery to correct the gynecomastia. Seeing that he was trying to break into acting (with some limited success), an industry where looks are very important, this would make sense. Of course, even without the acting, it's something that can cause a lot of undue stress, anxiety and shame.

In any case, I'm glad Fish got the problem taken care of and is able to be comfortable with himself.

(Try to keep the juvenile comments to a minimum. )
