Life is a Highway Polyrythmic? - Sunday, July 17, 2005 11:32 PM
I was working at Jimmy john's today, and Life is a Highway comes on 95.9 the River.  Although I might be mistaken, it sounded polyrythmic to me. It sounded as if the keyboard or whatever that sound was, was playing in a meter of three while the rest of the song was moving in four.  This is one of the few mainstream songs I have heard on the radio, besides Tool and Peter Gabriel that I have heard polyrythms with.  Has anyone else heard this or am I imagining things from too much work stress?  Is this even worth talking about in a thread?  What the hell I am bored.

I don't know about Tom Cochran, but I hear Aaliyah's Rock the Boat is a pretty fucked up polyrythmic song

I don't know if it's polyrhythmic, but I do know that Tom Cochrane opened the Barrie, Ontario Live 8 concert with that song, and his performance was one of the worst I have ever seen by a professional musician.  Did anyone else see this spectacle and think the same thing?  It was absolutely wretched.

His band was fine, but Cochrane was attempting to sing and play guitar at the same time, but accomplishing neither at any sort of acceptable level.  I don't think he found one right note for the entire song, and at times he was just speaking the lyrics.  Absolutely abysmal.  I would point you to the link to download it, but the awesome page that had all the performances in Quicktime is now gone.   If anyone really wants it, I suppose I could put it up on yousendit or something.  It's like a train wreck... horrific, yet you can't turn away.
