Amazing post energy4anger! Parts I and II are probably about the same person; seems to fit... Maybe Panic Attack is too... Part III is by far the most interesting. MP must have put a LOT of thought into it! With all the musical references, I don't know whats going on... no clue... Warning: Everything I say is mindless speculation... The chorus does sound like the recycle idea. But the musical ref verses seem like bringing the whole of music history together. Again, I've no clue... I think the whole album is part of one giant puzzle, not just the song. The clues lie in the booklet, I would say. Never Enough has 2 meanings, as far as I can see; and Sacrificed Sons is confusing, lyrically. Oh, since no one replied, any clue about the backing vocals during Intervals? Also, anyone notice footsteps right at the beginning of TRoAE. Can't wait for your next nugget!

I'm thoroughly convinced this is a giant tribute album in addition to whatever else it is. Suddenly the obvious influences doesn't bother me at all.

Was wondering if anyone can make out what the voice in the background says at the 14:00 point during Octavarium? Sounds to me like he's saying "Senator be careful" (Senator Edward Baynes - The Miracle, from Scenes from a Memory)

I keep thinking I"m getting an AIM message, but it only occurs at this point in the song. Weird. Not only that, but my AIM isn't even on.

ok...two more, "endless string impossible to break"...from pt2...could that be the string be related to the two boys communicating on 8v's art work? anyone else notice the voice patch in the keys at 17:38 of 8v is the same as in the key solo on LaB....

That's what i was trying to get to in a post a couple pages back, like rush's Feedback... That the endless cycle of the octavarium is music, it ends where it begins, people end up sounding like their influences, so they wanted to show some of that here.

I've been looking more big-picture than anything, wondering about the octavarium itself, what it is, whatever... But where's the other big nug you promised?

I think I've noticed something in the music/audio that no one else has mentioned in this thread. At the end of "These Walls," in the transitional track between it and "I Walk Beside You," we have the heartbeat. Immediately after the third heart beat I can hear a tiny pop or distortion out of the left speaker channel. Sometimes it sounds like lips smacking to me. You may have to crank your volume a bit to hear this (as I listen with earbuds and the volume on maximum). So I'm wondering, could it be a nugget or simple mastering glitch? It could simply be a spot between two audio splices that didn't get smoothed down perfectly. Or is our beating heart about to pop or something...? Anyone else hear the pop/glitch ? Somebody else please try to verify it for me.
The train has left the station ...

I'm hearing things, but nothing major... I'm hearing more and more on each listen. The 3rd heartbeats on These Walls sounds like a glitch to me... But it can be something else. However, the noises in the background are CREEEEEPY when turned on full volume. I honestly had my heard beating with it. The hearbeats are repeated 8x2 = 16 times on These Walls, and carries on to I Walk Beside You. Now, this "heartbeat", is nearly identical to the bass drum patten on U2's "Beautiful Day", which is a little faster. At least give us some clue about your "serious nugget", energy4anger!

Not sure if this has been mentioned or maybe I'm just trying too hard but in the diagram inside the jacket art for Octavarium, it says Fig.8. A "figure 8" on its side is the infinity symbol. :) I could go furthur and say, "infinity has 3 vowels, 5 consanants, and of course total of 8 letters." I don't think anyone has posted this yet. Sorry if it's a repeat. -Drummer519

Probably mentioned already but thread is too long for me to check right now........... At 2:55 in TALW, the strings play the 8V (song) melody. Sorry if it is obvious but I am just now getting to listen to the CD with earphones and I'm hearing so much more in the music. Later.

I just listened to the album once more all the way through..with headphones..and came up with these. The birds placement between the strings on the cover corresponds with the black and white keys on the black cover. For this, the strings themselves correspond to the white keys. Secondly..I'm more proud of this one. "The James LaBrie Coma Saga" - tentative title. Disappear, Vacant, and part II of Octavarium, Medicate (awakening) are obviously connected. Disappear is in the point of view of the person going into the coma or whatever it is. Vacant is another person speaking about the "victim", and then in Medicate, the person is waking up again. Perhaps someone else has come up with that already but I haven't seen it so I'm considering it original.

Just like the keys on a piano octave, there is a segue in between tracks 1 and 2, 2 and 3, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, and 6 and 7, with a straight transfer between 4 and 5, and 7 and 8. The segues could represent the sharps/flats on a keyboard. That is really cool. I don't know if it's been posted here or not, but it was suggested on DT.net, and I confirmed it.

What about the end of Octavarium? How it is the beginning of The Root of All Evil with the last key on ToT and then the sounds in the back. Does this mean they are discontinuing the whole 'start the next album with the ending of the previous album'?

So, i've heard a lot of people talk about the "godfather" part of 8va, the first flute melody that comes in, but does anyone other than me think it sounds a lot like Santana's Europa? If the last 2 notes were switched it'd be almost right on.

I don't know if this has been said already.. but the piano part in The Answer Lies Within (00.14-00.26) reminds me of My Immortal (i guess?) by Evanescence.. hm. And the main riff of The Root Of All Evil (01.00-01.04 that part) has similarities with Burning My Soul Also (probably has been said already, but what the heck) to the people who seem to be very surprised at the beginning note of 8V being the same as the ending note of TOT... that's also happening with SFAM/SDOIT (the rain/noise) and SDOIT/TOT (the gong) ORIGINAL: Rabidmonk5 What about the end of Octavarium? Just a thought, if the story ends where it begins, we seem too hung up on the music aspect. The story ends with The Root of All Evil Would that mean that the next album would begin with where TROAE left off? Hmmm...

I truly agree with you that there is a theme of history repeating itself. Moreover, terrorism seems to be somewhat of a subject to this octavarium, therefore i think the <tin can phone> might represent the misinformation that was given to president Bush before the terrorist attacks. I might be going out on a limb here, but i think this idea is in parts of the whole album. This can also go with you theory about the SOMEONE LIKE HIM concept( maybe another allusion to the current president). Especially in INTERVALS, it seems that negative feelings about the war and the negative aspects of history being repeated in general are being stated. I guess its possible. -BKJ

I had almost hit on that, but only made the flimsy connection between his Ayreon story line and MEDICATE. So I kinda didn't think any more about it. Can you double check that he wrote the lyrics to Disapear and Vacant ?! Tight shit bro!

ORIGINAL: JayArr Because they're done now with their label, right? Could be it. I hope this is all it is! I keep having the thought of this being their last album. Very much hope I am totally wrong!!!! But the coming full circle thing and the song "Never Enough" keeps this running through my head. I do believe that the temporary shutdown of the MP.com and DT.com forums where to keep the anticipation for the album alive, but the fact that the DT.net forum has been shut off to new members, with a threat of a complete shutdown, and with all of the negative posts on both sites, maybe they have had enough. Also, the circle on the front of 6DOIT with 8 sections and 2 of them grayed out leads me to believe that they knew then that there were only 2 more albums. This could however relate to the record label thing, which that and the fact that Mike has not finished his 12 steps are keeping me optimistic!! Oh, and the fact that the other 99% of us who aren’t bad eggs would be very disappointed!!!! Without flaming me, someone please convince me I am wrong!
