microsoft Optical. I will never go back to mouse balls. oh price and location. I think it was 39.99 at Best Buy but that price has gone down since then to I think 15.99 or 19.99 or something.

Logitech optical wheel mouse. It' s perfect. The wheel action is just right, and the optics work great. This mouse has worked flawlessly for over a year, and is the best mouse I' ve ever used. And it' s like $20. Har!

Microsoft Optical. For me, it' s the perfect shape and size, there' s no mouse balls to clean (they' re so small anyway), and I love the forward/back buttons on the side. I bought mine a while ago, and it was about $40 or $50 bucks. As Monk said, though, it has dropped in price since. My friend picked one up at Best Buy for $25.

My mouse has a ball. As long as I clean it about once a week, it still works fine, but I' d like to get an optical one when I can afford it again. One thing about cordless mouses (mice? ) is that, at least with my mouse, when the batteries are dying, the thing goes nutty! It' s actually pretty funny. I was trying to copy+paste something the last time my batteries were dying and all of a sudden, the page just started scrolling up and down like crazy on it' s own! hehe It' s nice not having that cord in the way though. And I can say enough good things about the scroll wheel. I love that thing. Sarah

The Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical I love this mouse. The shape is great (Microsoft ones seem horrid to me) - but it' s made only for right-handers. There are two optical sensors on the bottom (which mostly make it look cooler, but also practically ensure 100% precision). There are four buttons, the three standard ones (right, left, wheel) and then a small thumb button which you can assign a function to (I have the thumb as minimize window - which I use all the time - and clicking the wheel does a double-click for me). There are also the traditional Mouseman rubber grips on the sides which make it really easy to grab. Anyway, I highly recommend it. I got mine for $49.95 from Best Buy, then went back the next week and saw that it was marked down to $29.95! I' m not disappointed at all though.

I' m using the new Blue Optical Microsoft 2 Button Wheel Mouse at home, and an older 4 button MS Optical Mouse at work. While I like the design of Logitech mice, I mouse with both hands, and the MS neutral handedness mice are more ergonomic. Also, the drivers for MS have the all important " show/hide desktop" setting which I select for the wheel button. Keeps nosy co-workers at bay. Logitech has a minimize all, but it' s only one way.

Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer - Optical, back/forward buttons for thumb, scroll wheel, cool red laser...can' t go wrong. A bit pricey though, used my Best Buy discount right before I quit to save five bucks (it was $70 retail).

ORIGINAL: Strato ... - but it' s made only for right-handers. Correction, sir. They are made only for those who use the mouse with their right hand. Not just righties. I am a lefty and I use my right hand for mouse operation. I always thought that was the right (er, correct) way to go. I can' t understand why righties use their right hand for mouse operation. I find it much more benificial to use my weak hand on the mouse and leave the dominant hand free for things like writing, peck typing, nose picking, manual stimulation, etc... Maybe it' s just me. Back to the topic. I use several mice. I have a Logitech 4 button roller ball optical mouse with scroll on my work computer while at work, a Logitech 2 button roller ball non-optical on my work computer while at home (I use roller ball mice on my heavy-use computers because I have hand problems), a Micorsoft Optical 2 button with scroll on my game computer at work and my game/master computer at home (that' s 2 seperate computers and 3 seperate drives). I like the Microsoft Optical mouse the best, but I' d love to try the Logitech Optical.

Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. At work and home. The optical eye is definitely the best improvment the mouse has had since it' s invention. At work I map the side buttons to copy/paste. Writing code was never easier. I paid 70$ for it but it' s worth every penny. Also less moving parts means less wear and tear. This mouse outlives any other mouse I have ever had.

I just want to say thank you to everybody who has replied. So far it' s a toss-up between anything and everything. Actually, I really don' t know what I' m going to get yet, but I' m going to Best Buy later today to check it out. I' ll probably end up getting some sort of Microsoft Optical mouse but I' m just not sure which one. I' m for sure not going to spend more than $50, though, so that' ll help me a little. I' m so indecisive that I' ll probably be there all day. Okay, that' s a lie but still... John

I also go with the Logitech optical wheel mouse. One thing to keep in mind, if you are a gamer don' t go cordless. The refresh rate isn' t high enough for quick reaction and precision need in FPS games. I believe there is a brand new cordless that has a high enough refresh, but I think it is like 80 bucks. I just remember reading the review but I don' t remember what the model was.

I use a turd-y little optical mouse that the kind folks at... hell I forget their name... anyway, they gave it to me when I bought my custom machine from them at a computer show. It' s a silver one with a roller wheel and two buttons on the side for reload and talk... err, um forwards and backwards (giving away my Counter-Strike secrets...).

I use a Logitech optical wheelmouse, model M-BD58. It' s far superior to the Microsoft optical I use at home. Anyone who buys a mechanical mouse should really think twice, optical is a lot better.

I have one of these too, I had a gift card and returned something and got a good deal at best buy... it' s a great mouse and all of the extra buttons can be programmed for any keyboard function or combination. Copy/paste is a good example. :-) but i checked at staples.com and they go for 50 bucks! Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer - Optical, back/forward buttons for thumb, scroll wheel, cool red laser...can' t go wrong. A bit pricey though, used my Best Buy discount right before I quit to save five bucks (it was $70 retail).
