I forgot how much ass this album kicks. Pure, straight-up 80's thrash. Not their best, of course, but brilliant nonetheless. METAL MILITIA

I love this album. Just a couple of young guys playing fast songs. I wonder what would have happened if they never kicked Dave out of the band? What would Metallica be like today?

Kill em all definitly kicks a lot of ass. I like every song on the album. I think Metallica would be WAY different if they still had Dave and Cliff today.

ORIGINAL: Brooks Pssh, thats their best album. Metallica sold out after Kill em All. Well, I think Ride the lightning is their best. But for thrashness, it's Kill "Em All which would be my (very close) second fav Metallica album. But yeah...I agree with you.

What would Metallica be like today? i can't see how the black album and all that other stuf would've been released with Dave and Cliff in the band, seeing how f'ing \m/ they are ("was" for Cliff, i guess)... a friend showed me a clip of a show metallica did back in 82 or something, with Dave and Cliff in the band, they perform all the classics (jump in the fire, seek and destroy, no remorse, phantom lord...) and it's *hilarious*. Dave (well James too actually) is drunk out of this galaxy and introducing all songs... "this shong s'about 'n EVIL madda****ger, we call 'im... 'the phantom lorddd.....'" "(to the crowd) you guys like the heavy?" "yeeeeaaahhhh!!!!" "jump in the fire!" and so on.

It's awesome. The bass still blows me away. I saw them live last year (amazing show, believe me) and they closed with Hit the lights and seek and destroy.

I used to not like this album near as much as the classic 3... but It has really grown on me lately. I really love the catchy verse riff in 'Jump in the Fire' it reminds me of old motley crue just a little faster. the singing on that album leaves much to be desired.

While I dont SERIOUSLY think Kill Em All is Metallica's best album, I do cherish it for the simple fact that, when that album came out, Metallica was just another Bay Area Thrash band, back in the scene, doing their thing. That album is the essence of the band. Also, listen to how Exodus like the production is on that album. Bonded by Blood was recorded first, but due to limitations and label BS, it wasn't released until after Kill em All. Had it come out first, who knows what the state of things would have been. Bonded By Blood = greatest thrash album of all time (yes, over Reign in Blood )

I think the first 3 Metallica cds are certainly their best work. It's funny though when I first heard Kill 'Em All I HATED it. My friend who introduced me to a lot of early metal had it and would play it all the time. I used to tell him, "That sucks man, it's all just jugga, jugga, jugga, jugga". I even wasn't too fond of Ride The Lightning at first. Of course he was also into some pretty terrible metal back then like Hellhammer. But then I went to the "Heavy Metal Massacre of 1985" which was Armoured Saint, WASP & Metallica at a little hole in the wall bar called Coast To Coast outside of Baltimore. Armoured Saint was definitely the loudest band, WASP put on a decent show and Blackie Lawless drank blood out of a skull and then tossed it into the audience but after that the real show started. Metallica came out and proceeded to blow everyone away. They played about half of both Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning and even played both instrumentals. I was up front in like the second row and got to shake everyone's hand after the show except Lars. I left the show asking my friend to record both of their albums for me the very next day. So for me at least it was just like they say in Metal Militia, "Once you have seen us you'll never be the same". That's a show that I'll never forget. Chris crowtoo@earthlink.net

Great album, that has grown on me over time. In the beginning I didn't think it was very special, but now it fucking kicks ass. The first 4 tallica albums are truely masterpieces.
