Fates Warning "Disconnected"

This is the only Fates Warning cd I do not have and looking for some info. Is this worth buying? Is it comparable to any of their other cd's? Just saw they released "X", anyone have this cd also?

I just bought it. Its my introduction to Fates Warning. I suggest getting it. It in amazing (Although the 1st and last song can get annoying after a while. That sound over and over again.) Still worth it. -Art

I have both Disconnected and X so let me see if I can help you out. Disconnected is ALOT like A Pleasant Shade of Grey as far as the sound goes. X is more varied with less keyboards and more emphasis on individual song structures. If you're only looking to pick one of these up, I would get X, simply because Disconnected is merely average when compared to APSOG.

I'd get both if you can afford it. FWX has a wide variety of songs and reminds me a bit of Inside Out, though I think its much better overall. Disconnected, however, has Still Remains, which is possibly their greatest individual song. I don't think you'd lose either way. If you liked them enough to own all their other albums, I don't see why you'd stop now.

Disconnected is my 2nd favorite FW album (behind Parallels). Like someone alluded to earlier, the repeating guitar lick in the beginning & end of the album can be annoying, but most everything else in between is great. I like the atmosphere of this album. By coincidence I'm listening to FWX right now. Pick it up as well if you can. I think it has a similar atmosphere to Disconnected, but like Bryan2306 said, there is more emphasis on individual song structures. Could be my 3rd favorite FW album.
About time I changed the sig, huh?

ORIGINAL: Bryan2306 ...Disconnected is merely average when compared to APSOG. I like APSOG a *lot*, but Disconnected is by FAR my favorite FW disc. Nothing beats Still Remains.

Oh man, "Disconnected" is EXCELLENT. If "Still Remains" isn't my favorite ("Guardian" still holds a very special place in my heart, and I don't think it will ever be topped), it's easily in my top 2 or 3 alltime favorite FW songs. The whole album rules, but that song is an absolute JEWEL! PS: "X" is quite good as well. Very solid album with some spectacular moments. I just LOVE the song "Wish". SO damn good...

The best way to describe DIsconnected is to say that they are carrying over some of the atmospheric sensibilities of APSOG. But also they were influenced by the heavier aspects of Ray's side project engine. It makes for a very interesting cd. I was just thinking ow I would rate their cds and it was tough. But here it goes, I will stick to Alder era stuff since I was never a big Arch fan 1)APSOG 2)Insideout 3)FWX 4)Parallels 5)Disconnected 6)Perfect Symmetry 7)No Exit. Damn that was tough, I bet 3-5 could change from minute to minute.

This has really growing on me lately. Most likely my fave FW album at this time. Been buying the songs one at a time on Amazon. Wish I just bought it all at once.

Holy blast from the past batman! Yes...i will never forget the day I bought this album...had to go to a B-day party with my gf at the time. We bought the record at some store and then drove to the party...I was itching to get back to the car so I could listen to it...ahhh, those were the days.

I miss this album. I haven't listened to FW or prog in general in a long fucking time (aside from the latest DT album). But this album really touched a place in my heart when I had it.

Not the biggest Fates Warning fan, especially not of their earliest days with John Arch, but Disconnected as well as A Pleasant Shade of Grey and FWX sure are cool albums. Something from Nothing might still be my favourite FW track.

Dude, this CD is worth the price of admission ALONE, just for "One" (one of their most memorable and melodic yet heavy songs ever) and "Still Remains"... 16-minutes of musical bliss. Granted this is the "less is more" era of solo guitarist/songwriter Jim Matheos, but this is a great record.
