New Dream Theater album finished!
Saturday, February 26, 2005 2:37 PM
( permalink)
On Friday February 25th 2005, Dream Theater wrapped up recording on their latest album. Mixing will be begin on Monday February 28th and the record will be delivered to the label in Mid-March. A release is expected for sometime around May/June through Atlantic Records. Dream Theater began writing and recording their latest album last November at the world famous Hit Factory studios in New York City. (everybody from Michael Jackson, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Britney Spears, U2, Mariah Carey, REM, etc. etc. have all recorded at the legendary studio) As has been reported in the media several weeks ago, the famous recording studio is closing down upon the completion of Dream Theater's recording session. This album will hold the distinction of being the VERY LAST album ever recorded at the Hit Factory in NYC. (the first was Stevie Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life") After the Dream Theater sessions ended on Friday night, the lights were turned off and the doors were locked to the world famous studio - ending an era in the music industry....

You guys will now be the answer to a music trivia question. Anything else that you would like to share. Maybe something you were gonna say on the radio last night, but couldn't sneak in between the ramblings of Zakk, the attempts to control him by Jericho and the confusion of Eddie. (maybe just a piece, a tidbit, a morsel.........awww nevermind. I'll wait)

That's great news! And while it sadens me to hear that the studio is closing, it's also very cool that DT will be the last band to record there. Can't wait for the new album though!

Hey Mike... Congratulations and thanks for the snippet of news on what we all know will be an awesome new record... sad about the fate of The Hit Factory Studios but really special that DT and the new record are part of a genuine milestone already...and the record is not even mixed yet... hope to see you on tour sometime down the line... stay well MP...wishing you and the band every success.

Now this is awesome news, thanks Mike, you are a legend in my honest opinion. anyway, i'm glad that you were the last to record at Hit Factory, it makes the new album even more important in music history. Thanks for the info Mike, and I hope to be hearing the album in the next few months aswell as a gig, can't wait. Edit: Just bought your 9" Max Splash today, what a coincidence two DT related things happening to me in one day, You've made my day Mike, Thanks. BTW, awesome splash, getting the 7" in a few weeks.

what a way to end the history of the Hit Factory Studios. DT has to be very honered, and I think we fans must be very honored that we are getting the last album recorded there.. I hope somewhere in the liner notes, that can be stated.

Mike, thank you for sharing all the details. It is very interesting knowing the details and timing of the recording and the studio. You set yourself and the band apart from other musicians out there with all the details and interaction you afford your fans. It is much appreciated and valued!

Thanks for the info Mikey! I know you're real hesitant to say anything more than what you've already said, but I'm really interested in the production aspects. Could you possibly tell who handled the producing role (you and JP again or an "outsider") and will you be using the caveman for mixing? Any little tidbit would send me balls deep into a frezy! Well, not really, but I'd like to know I know Duke said it, but we really do appreciate the posts and feeling so close to you guys through the forum. See you on tour this summer!

That is both friggin' cool and poignant at the same time. Here's hoping for some tasty footage of the sessions (Bonus DVD with the CD? A drum-cam Archives DVD will probably be a sure-fire thing...)

This album will hold the distinction of being the VERY LAST album ever recorded at the Hit Factory in NYC. (the first was Stevie Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life") Haha, another situation Dream Theater will be famous for that doesn't involve their music itself (the LSFNY WTC cover, MP impostor, etc.).

ORIGINAL: xdrummer2000 SICK!!! Mike, one thing. My friend told me it was going to be called "Morse Code". Is this true? Actually, that's the name of their tribute album to Steve Morse since that's all JP was willing to play when the sessions started. It will be a bonus CD that you'll have to send in for, but to get it, you'll need to be one of the first 2,112 people to identify where "Eat My Ass and Balls" is located on the *new* album (not ToT)! for you dense types, the above post is a joke and should not be taken seriously, as should be evident by the smilies

Wow I had no idea the Hit Factory was closing shop. I think that's great that one of the greatest bands -- if not THE greatest band in the world -- were there to close it in style. There could be no other way. I am so anxious to hear this thing.
