I wonder if the band knew before they started recording that they were the Swan Song in that
studio?

I'm pretty sure they didn't know - it wasn't until the news broke publicly (abooot a month ago) that the band found out as well.
Ever wonder if DT is gonna ever play your city or why they haven't played there yet? Click here to find out.

This is so cool. I finish work (and don't have to go in for another 8 days!) and I come home to find that the new album is finished.
Mike, you have made my day, yet again! Here's wishing that May/June hurries up so I can go and get the new album!
Thanks again!
It could be worse, I could be you...

+1 I'm with Instrumedley here.
I want May/June to hurry it's ass up! COME ON! BE HERE! NOW!
I'm actually a patient guy usually, but not when it comes to getting good music... (or, music this good... or something like that...)

I think this is easily the most I've ever anticipated a new CD. I really am excited to see what they come up with for this one. I can't wait!

The Alpha and The Omega of the recording artists bring a beginning and an ending to a fabulous recording studio.

This is so true for me as well. With ToT, I was exicted but I knew what it was going to be. They said it was going to be very metal. With this album, though, everything is hush hush and they give us little tidbits here and there and even then they are well worded.

It could, but I question it this time. The timing is right for him to do it, but unless he was BS'ing in an earlier post, it doesn't look like it. Notice what his entry from Feb 16th said:

Back in New York City March 1st, and straight into mixing an album for some Northern Californian rockers, before I produce a couple of tracks for a hard rock band from Estonia = anyone know where that is?

So there's quite the possibility that someone else is mixing the album, altho I doubt it's Steven Wilson, since I'm sure he's busy wrapping everything up related to the new PT album (promotions, tour schedule, etc).

That's great news! Nothing wrong with making, or in this case, ending history with what should be a FINE product once again. Thanks MP. Looking forward!

Amazing. Kind of sad to hear about Hit Factory though...why'd they shut down?

Looks like Home Recording has started to make a dent into the "Big Recording Studio" industry. I was just talking with the father of the keyboard player in my son's band and he was saying how his son can make a home recording that rivals anything being put out by a major studio. They have $5000.00 invested in gear.

I dunno about rivalling. Sure, it can come close. Ive done good recordings, but you cant get that sound and the dynamic that you can from an experienced mixer in a big studio. Half the time you are paying for the names, but on the same token, everything is 'branded' now

A $5,000 home studio could not rival anything put out of a major studio with quality engineers PERIOD. It could provide a medicore demo, and that's about it, if even that.

It's the operator, not just the gear. Look at Chris Brooks' CD.
NOT a mediocre demo.

a $5,000 home studio could absolutely rival a major studio release. Quality recording equipment is dirt cheap now-a-days and it's become so user friendly that anyone willing to put the time into learning it, could release a high quality product.

The day's of a mediocre demo are gone. With all the technology out there and being as affordable as it is, having a crappy sounding demo is inexcusable.

This album will hold the distinction of being the VERY LAST album ever recorded at the Hit Factory in NYC. (the first was Stevie Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life") After the Dream Theater sessions ended on Friday night, the lights were turned off and the doors were locked to the world famous studio - ending an era in the music industry....

DT destroy the studio recording the new album?! Yeah
The new DT album will be very HEAVY ? Yeah
(they have destroyed a studio recording it !)
