Hi Mike,
First off, I wanted to express to you what a big fan of DT’s music I am, you guys truly are inspirational and right amazing thought provoking music. I also wanted to express my deepest thanks for putting your blood sweat and tears in to not only the music, but into your producing/directing and all of the other work you do behind the “scenes”. Also, I couldn’t forget to thank you for looking after us the fans. THANK YOU MIKE.
My question concerns musical compromise within Dream Theater. How often do you guys get into heated debates about what direction a given song should go in and how do you as a group do you work your way through these issues? Was there ever an instance in which you felt really strongly about a section being a certain way and got out voted or another idea was chosen. What DT songs might be drastically different if MP had his way every time (or does MP get his way every time;-) ) or are you always 100% satisfied musically when you leave the studio?

BTW – Hope you guys make it up to Canada next time out, I know its completely out of your hands and your as disappointed as the fans, but we want to see James playing back on his home turf!

Good Luck with the new album (not that you’ll need it, you guys got game!)

Thanks Again,
Josh

Hi Josh,
Actually within DT, MP does get his way everytime!
(really!)

The only time I ever felt that *I* was forced into compromising, was during that period in '96/'97 (answered in detail in the threads below)
