all of the Final Fantasy series Castlevania - SOTN Street Fighter II - Guile, Ryu, Vega Contra Super Mario Bros. For some reason, I can't remember the music in other classic games that I played I wish I listened to the music more.

ORIGINAL: mesaofrio My fav soundtrack (and game) ever is FFVIII. Yeah, FFVIII has some kickass music. And actually, I think it's my favorite FF game as well. It could be that it's the first one I played (I watched my brother play the others when I was a kid, but he wouldn't let me play). A lot of people don't really like 8, but to me, it was outstanding. And I've played the chronicles and anthology that were rereleased for Playstation, VII, VIII, IX, X and I'm playing X-2 right now. However, I named one of my rats Sephiroth--cuz he's a kick ass villian. And my kitten is Aeris...

ORIGINAL: Moonchild heh you guys prolly never played the turbografx 16 or pc engine in japan. they had some great music in there cd titles one particular isa shooter called lords of thunder. its like an yngvie cd only cooler hehe and also devils crush pinball has a great midi metal soundtrack If you scroll up, and read my post above I mention the game. ORIGINAL: DrumRman Last Gladiators Digital Pinball (Sega Saturn) Necronomicon Digital Pinball (Sega Saturn Japan) Wizards And Warriors (NES) Gate Of Thunder (Turbo Duo) Lords Of Thunder (Sega CD, and Turbo Duo - 2 different music mixes) Galaxy Fight (Sega Saturn) Sega Rally Championship (Sega Saturn) Ys Book I, II, III, IV (Turbo Duo, PC Engine) Guilty Gear X, and X2 (Playstation) Castlevania : SOTN (Playstation) Theres a bunch of em, but these are the cream of the crop for me! I also like Devils Crush......was a sequel to Alien Crush pinball. I was a huge PC Engine/Turbo Duo fan. Camp California for Turbo Duo also had great hard rockin music. You should get the SEGA CD version of Lords Of Thunder. Although its the same music, its completely done by different musicians, with different mixes, and slight variations. The game can also be stripped of the audio tracks using an mp3 ripper.

FFVIII is my personal favorite, too. The GF system is freakin' awesome. The Final Fantasy games have some good music. The Chrono series of games have good tunes, too. Particularly Chrono Cross. I actually played some of this music in a band last summer but the keyboard player was a bitch who never left his house.

Haven't seen these mentioned Silent Hill 2 & 3 (especially 2) I can't wait to hear (and play) Silent Hill 4. It looks great for playing in the dark in 5.1 surround.

ORIGINAL: GlassPrisoner2k6 Baldur's Gate. Epic, soothing, etc. It covers so much ground and does it amazingly. On top of that, I think it's probably one of the best video games in general of all time. I second that!! My second pick would be Metal Gear Solid.

ORIGINAL: Law Talking Guy The best music in any video game has to be from Super Metroid. SNES Castlevania 4 had probably the most consistent good music overall. That, and then PS1 Symphony of the Night. Couldn't agree with you andy more on those. I also happen to love the music from the Tomb Raider series, especially the first two games.

The original Mario Brothers (especially the main theme, the underground and underwater music). Mega Man 2 and 3 (my favorite being the music at the start screen for Mega Man 3).

Ah, here's a nice can of worms to open... My brother actually bought the soundtrack to Jet Set Radio Future. It's that good. I may not play the games, but most Final Fantasy music is awesome. Also: Tetris for Game Boy. Duh. And for the odd meter junkies like myself, dust off an old copy of Street Fighter II and wander over to Sagat's stage, where you'll hear background music in 11/8.

I'd have to go with almost every song from the original Ninja Gaiden on the NES. Emotional, fast, and melodic. To be honest, the music in that game was the only thing that gave me the drive to get past any of those pieces of crap that would spin in circles in the air and shoot fire balls. Even though the music sometimes had a certain, Beverly Hills Cop sound to it. All in all, engaging and crazy catchy.
"Balls and chunk, man. Balls and chunk."

ORIGINAL: Law Talking Guy www.metroidmetal.com www.ocremix.org The best music in any video game has to be from Super Metroid. The themes from that game are so timeless and intricate that a tribute project called Relics of the Chozo (available free, google for it) came to life, and contains some incredible material. Metroid Zero Mission has awesome music also, but the resolution is just a bit low. The other entries in the series are also great. Echo for Bloody Tears, as well as many other Castlevania themes. Not surprisingly, SNES Castlevania 4 had probably the most consistent good music overall. That, and then PS1 Symphony of the Night. Also of course the DDR music is pretty good... heh Agreed. The end.

I'm surprised we've gotten to page 3 and not one mention of F-Zero X from Nintendo 64. That gets my vote by far higher than any other game.

Yeah, FFVIII has some kickass music. And actually, I think it's my favorite FF game as well. It could be that it's the first one I played (I watched my brother play the others when I was a kid, but he wouldn't let me play). A lot of people don't really like 8, but to me, it was outstanding. I love the story, it´s really deep. And I could relate a lot with Squall when I played it. Liberi Fatali and eyes on me are amazing songs, I´ll never forget the intro and the ending sequence, especially because I still play it alot cause its too fucking easy altho 9 is easier...i beat 9 on lvl 1 for crying out loud! 9 was pretty easy, but that doesn´t mean it wasn´t a great game. I don´t think 8 was that easy, but the key for beating the tougher bosses were the limit breaks. Squall´s lion heart is probably the most powerfull move ever in a FF. Other soundtracks I love are the Genesis Sonic games and Sega rally. YES! When I was younger I spent more time in the options menu listening to the songs than acutally playing the game. I feel alot better with myself now Damn, time goes by so fast! How long ago was that. 12 years?!

ORIGINAL: ProgMonster I always loved the music in Little Nemo:The Dream Master. That game was so trippy. It sooooo incouraged drug use. Goddammit! I remember that one! There was a level where you could fly as a bee in an upside-down house, right? That's the only level I remember, but still... I remember calling that game simply "the dreamgame".

Gotta be Shenmue as my all-time favorite. Grandia II also had some cool choral things going on.
