I picked up some new ones for the weekend.

These are all imperial IPA's in 22 oz bottles:
    • Anderson Valley 20th Anniversary Imperial IPA
    • Avery DuganA IPA
    • Butte Creek Organic Revolution XI Imperial IPA
    • Southern Tier Gemini
And this one is the single most expensive bottle of beer that I've ever bought (750 ml corked bottle):
    • Brooklyn Black Ops (bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout)
Hopefully, it's worth it. I believe I'll be enjoying it during the super bowl.

EDIT: And now with the current 39 messages/page:

I finally found a bottle of Dogfish World Wide Stout at the store a few weeks back.  First time I've ever actually seen it for sale of outside of the GABF.  It was expensive (~$10) but I'll save it for a good occasion when I can share it.  My 1 oz sample at the GABF made it clear there's no way I could drink a whole bottle by myself anyway.  It's seriously strong at 18% ABV.

Here's a very entertaining 27 minute video of Stone Brewing and Jolly Pumpkin Brewing visiting Nogne Ø in Norway and Brew Dog in Scotland. Very well worth watching the whole thing!

I know this isn't the kind of stuff that gets discussed here, but I got a free Molson Canadian / Team Canada Hockey beer glass at a restaurant tonight.

          Nice collectible.

Wonderful! Time for a celebration... Cheese for everyone! Wait, scratch that. Cheese for no one. That can be just as much of a celebration, if you don't like cheese, true? You've run a maze like a good little rat. But no cheese for you yet. Well, maybe a little.

Brewed my Czech Pilsner at LoneRider Brewing Company a few weeks ago.  It was a wonderful experience.  They let me have a hand in every aspect of brewing it commercially.  From scaling up the recipe, to the actual brewing.  It was a very busy day, and a lot of work, but so much fun.

Should be approved for sale this week, and will be appearing in bars shortly after.  I've had a keg on tap in my apartment since last Wednesday.  It turned out great, and very faithful to the homebrew I originally brewed.  It's a little hoppier, but I much prefer it this way.  The spicy and floral Saaz hop character dominates, with a nice rounded malty backbone makes this a very enjoyable and drinkable quaff.  Very authentic tasting, and FRESH.  The way pilsner is meant to be drank.

We took some pictures of the brew day, you guys can check them out here if you're interested.

I drank some of my dad's Mexican beer.  Very bitter, but very refreshing.

After 2 years I have reconnected with a former co-worker actuary friend who lives nearby, who used to set me up with cases upon cases of his home brew when we worked together.  We enjoyed come of his double bock last night, and took another tour of his brewing facilities in his cellar.  Safe to say he is one of the most accomplished home brewers in the Northeast.  Hard not to be impressed.

Hey dudes, well a good break from being a moron with foods/beer has the sensitivity to beer all but gone for me,  problem was I was having nasty reactions from not always being on my heart burn medication due to running out and getting too friendly with the macro stuff.

Well it's a good thing too my good friend and former boss has finally got his own shop going(or at least it will be soon) and I have been nominated The Beer Man! My job will entail selling/promoting and tasting brews as well as teaching (which will eventually involve various classes) I am no where as experienced as some of you guys so I am curious about you think I should carry in stock!

If you can avoid Brew Once types of beers for now just because I don't currently have any of the distributor books yet and looking for the stable n steady products from these breweries, any suggestions are cool,  there's a few companies I know of I will probably have but just do not have any experience with their stuff(like Smuttynose) that I have ommitted for now til I can try a few of em.

Here's a basic list what I got from stuff I have had or have seen regularly, I know it's a fairly generic list but this the very first rough draft and was done from the top of my head of stuff I can account for and as far as I know are at least available part of the year.

^Pretty good.  I would looks to carrying as much as you can from Victory.  I've had a lot of their beers, and I can't remember one that I didn't like.

I'm finishing off the last pint of LoneRider's Gunslinger Pilsner (my recipe).  It sold very well at all of the accounts that got it.  They all got multiple kegs, and each bar sold out completely in less than 2 weeks.  I think I'm going to have to make another homebrew batch soon.  I want more.

I had 2 Turtle Doves from The Bruery recently.  This was a phenomenal beer.  The pecans were at a nice level and wasn't overwhelming, and the cocoa added a nice dark chocolate bitterness to the beer.  I have yet to be disappointed by this brewery!

For whatever reason this is my first time visiting the infamous BEER thread.

Has the fact that it's hilariously ironic that this thread (about beer) is one of the biggest threads on MIKE PORTNOY'S forum been discussed??

                                hahaha

I had 2 Turtle Doves from The Bruery recently.  This was a phenomenal beer.  The pecans were at a nice level and wasn't overwhelming, and the cocoa added a nice dark chocolate bitterness to the beer.  I have yet to be disappointed by this brewery!

Oh that sounds amazing, I will definately poke around see if it's distributed in RI or Mass.  And I have not been disappointed with Victory so I will probably grab anything they have for the store.

I am sure you have had it but  Delerium Nocturnum is highly recommended by me, it's almost got a candied fruit(natural tasting) quality to it and it seems that it is getting around now, before I only saw it in one store but now I've seen it in at least 4.   Also Southern Tier's Chokolat Imperial Stout is probably the best chocolate stout I've ever had.

I am a milk chocolate kind of guy, I like dark chocolate and all but some times it's way too bitter(I always forget but I think it was the Brooklyn Brewery Dark Chocolate that I actually had to get colder because it was too much)  but this brew is so ridicuously smooth and rich, and it doesn't do subtle, it's chocolate beer and it's damn proud of it! No cold required of course

I'm taking an Entrepreneurship class this quarter for my MBA, and I'm doing the business plan on starting a local craft brewery. I haven't brewed a pint in my life. Any pointers?

There's no Road in Victory Brewing Co. Probably a good thing to know if you're going to be teaching people about good beer.

There are obviously tons of other great beers that you could add to your list, but a few popular choices off the top of my head:
Ayinger (pretty much anything they make)
                                      Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout
                                      Chimay (all 3)
                                      Newcastle Brown Ale
                                      Paulaner Salvator
                                      Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale
                                      Schneider Weisse (Hefe-weizen and Aventinus)
Sierra Nevada (Pale Ale, IPA, Bigfoot Barleywine, Celebration Ale, Torpedo Ale)
St. Bernardus (Abt 12, Prior 8, Pater 6)
Unibroue (La Fin Du Monde, Maudite, Trois Pistoles)
Victory (anything you missed especially Old Horizontal, V12, Whirlwind Witbier)
                                      Young's Double Chocolate Stout

                                        Latest I had were

                                        "3 Fonteinen" ("3 Fountains")
De Blonde Deugniet ("The Blonde Mischevious")
                                        and
                                        Keizer Karel (Emperor Charles)

                                        great beers!

There's another one I tried, which was quite sublime, a little akin to white wine and very refined. Though it let to a state of inebration....so i kind of forgot its name! :D

I am sure you have had it but  Delirium Nocturnum is highly recommended by me

Love the Delirium beers, but man do they give you a hangover when you've been indulging!

currently I am enjoying a Westmalle Dubbel trappist ale....with plans to throw back some Edmund fitzgerald by great lakes tomorrow

on a side note, man are you guys lucky to have so much great beer availible to you.  The northern part of WV is pretty thin when it comes to great craft brew, the three distributors up here carry mainly swill (with the exception of Great Lakes, of whcih I've never had a bad beer)  If only we could get Rouge or DFH up here.....I could settle for some Victory as well....

Today was a low beer day for me. Not often do I show up to beer store with just change and stand for 10 mintutes seeing what's the most I could buy for $5.65.

I only take my drivers license with me to work (there's been theft around the place so I don't take my wallet) and I had 5.65 in change in my backpack and on way back wanted beer bad. Was a hot one outside and in at work.  So got 2 Lowenbrau. Not really a fan them but man after being dehydrated they went down quick and smooth.

Had a very nice Oktoberfest micro from a local brewpub named RAM.

From chocolate to oysters to tomatoes, Sam is constantly pushing his team and himself to innovate and celebrate the amazing world of beer and beer making. The imagination of the Dogfish Head team is matched only by the fun they inject into every facet of their jobs. Beer tasting meetings in the conference room with co-workers, a bocce ball league in the parking lot, filming original rap videos in the brewery plant, its all in a days work for BREW MASTERS.

BREW MASTERS taps more than just kegs and barrels, it unlocks a fascinating history of beer making, showcasing the ingenuity and passion behind our love affair with those alluring suds and how it played a role in building civilizations, said Clark Bunting, President and General Manager of Discovery Channel.

Running a successful business also requires inspiration, so BREW MASTERS hits the road for the ultimate beer tasting road trip. Sam sets out to recreate ancient ales that have been discovered at sites around the world from Egypt to Peru. He travels to Rome to research old world Italian beers as inspiration for a new site in New York with Mario Batali. A visit to New Zealand introduces the idea of making the first tomato based beer. And back home, Sam is tasked to come up with a commemorative beer called Bitches Brew to celebrate the 40th anniversary release of Miles Davis famous recording.

Im excited to share the diligence, daring and creativity that we pour into our work, said Calagione.

I found out about them a couple years ago when I happened to be sitting in a local good beer bar and struck up a conversation with a guy who happened to be in the group. We do beer case splits every few months and have a few gatherings throughout the year.

They have regional forums such as US - Great Lakes where you can post about your group or even see if someone else already has a group that you may want to join.
