Bought my NYC ticket today. I was unsure for the price (not huge on Mastadon), but my coworker assured me that Ghost puts on an amazing live show, so I took the plunge. JRundquist Mastodon is MUCH bigger then Opeth...that's why they are headlining. Regardless. THis is going to be a killer fucking tour! I know this isn't the source of everything, but Mastodon has 434,000 fans on Facebook, while Opeth has over 826,000. Just sayin'

That's on a grander scale....Earth. Mastodon is much bigger here in North America.. Opeth is bigger in at least Europe and South America.

I keep going back and forth. Pro: Mastodon Con: Opeth, Mastodon and Opeth fans, no idea who Ghost is, and it's a Monday night. But it is still Mastodon, and Brann Dailor. Hmmm.... Decisions, decisions............

I bought my tickets for Denver. It sure as hell seems like I go to a ton of Sunday & Monday night concerts. This is another Monday one. Glad Opeth is closing, hopefully this means a longer set.

Well I'm officially going to the Denver show. Guess I should try to at least acquaint myself with Akerfeldt's music. What are the best 3 tunes that are not on Heritage (gave it a full spin, didn't care for it in the least) that will show me what I'm in for?

Depending on what you're in the mood for those top 3 songs could change. But my personal 3 that aren't on Heritage and get pretty consistently played live would probably be The Drapery Falls, Harlequin Forest, and Closure

Listening now, thanks for the suggestions. I still think this is one bizarre matchup. Totally different bands, and maybe I'm off but I feel like their will probably be a segregation of Mastodon fans v. Opeth fans. Coheadlining gigs hardly ever work for this very reason.

Just because it's one of my biggest pet peeves - I meant to say "there" not "their." I started to type a different sentence, when back and deleted it but apparently kept in the wrong word. Please forgive me. After listening to those tunes - I'm sorry but I'm just not digging it. I'm sure it'll be cool to see live just to see some of the guitar playing, but I think I'm going to stick to just being pumped about the 'Don.

Ugh... literally the lamest most cliched gimmick a metal band can employ. That's disgustingly lazy. Now writing a concept album about Moby Dick, if only a band would tackle THAT subject matter.... hmm....

Currently listening to Elizabeth on the u-tv, and this song coupled with reading their wikipedia page makes me think about purposefully showing up late. There's a decent chance I might be "that guy" who shows up for one band, then I'm out like Swayze. You know, in Ghost? Damnit...

So pumped for this show! Been listening to Heritage and The Hunter all day. Also read Ghost's wikipedia page and laughed my ass off when I saw the costumes. I had NO idea what these guys were about when I was spinning this album for the first time. Now, I feel like an idiot because the lyrics make it obvious. I get creeped out by shit like this and I will probably get my drink on during their set. My buddy told me today that he heard a rumor that Akerfeldt was is Ghost. No chance, right?

After watching a soundcheck video in Japan and Opeth playing Heir Apparent, I'm anxious as hell to see what their setlist for this tour is going to be. I'm luke warm on Mastadon and I don't know Ghost from Adam, although from the sounds of the discussion above they ain't too big into the Adam thing (at least biblically speaking).

Here is the setlist from last night (not sure how accurate it is, just found it on line). Looks like their set was an hour and 15 minutes. That is indeed the setlist....and the times are accurate as well....Mastodon did play a touch longer, so maybe the closer gets a few more minutes?

Curious to see if tonight, as the closing band, they play anything different or a longer set. The Grand Conjuration should kick some ass, but I would love to see Heir Apparent, which they played in Japan.

It was a good show. My first time seeing Mastodon who absolutely rocked. Opeth sped up the majority of the set (which was identical to last nights), I think, to give it a little more energy. As a fan of Heritage, I think the album with 1 or 2 exceptions is a little boring to watch live. Yet, on the last tour and this one they basically played the album with a few other slow songs also thrown in. At least we got to hear some metal with The Grand Conjuration an Deliverance. What a way to close a set!

Somewhat disappointed that they didn't throw in an extra song or two as the closing band for the show last night (they are also closing the show in Denver that I am going to later this month). I've got to put together a playlist for the Mastadon setlist to get a bit more familiar with those songs. I have The Hunter, and listened to it a few times after I got it but it never really grew on me.
