iPad drummers - triggering samples from your iPad? Wednesday, January 11, 2012 10:36 AM (permalink)
Hey gang - back with another iPad request...

I sold my Roland SPD-S (wasn't using it much) and bought an iPad, and I'd like to use it live sample/trigger sounds like I did with the SPD-S (sans sticks, of course - hee hee).  Any recommendations on apps that would come close to doing just that?

I've seen some apps that look somewhat the same as an SPD-S layout (9-16 pads), but don't have sampling capabilities.  Then again, I wouldn't even know how to go about capturing a great sample into an iPad other than with the mic.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Cheers...Kev

I've been looking for the same thing, but haven't found it. Unfortunately injustndont think it exists... I wish I knew how to write my own apps. Let me know if you find any. Maybe with NAMM next week something will be released.

On a related note, is there a way to hook trigger pads to an iPad/iPod?  For example, I have a Trigger I/O interface... any way to attach it?

Someone on the Petrucci Forum said they have the Alesis iodock and trigger io hooked up together but I'm not sure how...

I don't know if it's exactly what you need but I use NanoStudio to trigger samples in my band, at least for me it works very good. Besides I don't use it as a drummer, I trigger sound samples, chords, voices and things like that.

The Camera Connection Kit allows you to hook up any Core MIDI-compatible USB controllers, so if you can get a USB drum pad controller, that'd be the way to go.

There are a few apps that you can use to record midi data. I personally have used MusicStudio. GREAT app. Works with anything MIDI.

Very interesting with the Camera connection kit.  Does anyone know if that will work with iPod too or just iPad?

I have my friends iPad 2 and bought the camera kit. I tried hooking up my Trigger I/O and got an error message about it drawing too much power. I'm going to try a powered USB hub to see if that helps.
