MP Tribute to Dio Tuesday, January 10, 2012 1:00 AM (permalink)
Was just cranking Adrenaline Mob's version of The Mob Rules and I thought of how cool it would be if MP did a tribute night to Dio, similar to his YMC, Amazing Journey and Hammer of the Gods tributes.

Portnoy, Russell Allen, Paul Gilbert, Derek Sherinian and a Bass player covering songs from Elf, Rainbow, Sabbath and Dio.

I know it would probably be Allen's night more than Portnoys, but still.... Imagine them doing a setlist including The Mob Rules, Stargazer, Gates of Babylon, Neon Nights, Heaven and Hell, Sign of the Southern Cross, Long Live Rock n Roll, Kill the King, A Light in the Black, Catch the Rainbow, Children of the Sea, Die Young, I, Carolina County Ball, Wonderworld, Holy Diver, Last in Line, We Rock, Stand Up And Shout, Rainbow in the Dark, Sacred Heart, Fever Dreams... Throw in Love is All from the butterfly ball.

No real point to this thread other than to say it would be cool.
    As you were.

Totally agree! The Setlist would be a bit more obscure i guess. But the idea would kick ass.....
If it sounds good to you, then it sounds good.

That would totally be awesome! But there was something like that briefly with Dio Disciples.

I'll stick with Jorn Lande's Dio tribute album, but... wait a minute... what if Jorn and MP joined forces for a tribute... oh my god :O

I remember reading that Wendy Dio was NOT happy about Jorn's album. She thought he was cashing in on Dio.
I'm a big fan of Jorn though.

The sad truth about Jorn's tribute album is that it was announced around the time of Dio's death, but it had been scheduled for announcement at that time and he had been working on it for months before Dio's death.  It was completely coincidental but unfortunately many people, including Wendy, thought he was cashing in on it.  :(
