Ever replaced drum wraps?

Has anyone here ever replaced the drum wraps from on a kit? I have an old white Yamaha Power V kit that sounds great but looks a little rough. I was considering the idea of ordering custom wraps to replace the white, but don't really know much about how to replace them once I get them. So, if anyone has ever attempted something like this, or has recommendations on how or where to get it done, I would appreciate any advice.

Didn't replace them, but I did tear them off my old kit and put a few coats of finish over the wooden shell. It was time-consuming but really easy.

That finish looks really cool. I might just have to try that. The wrap on some of my drums are warped from the sun. On a side note, what did you use to fix your cracked cymbal?

I also stripped the wrap off my drums and stained them. Again, very easy, very cheap. Looks pretty nice too, except my bass drum has two different cuts of wood that don't match and it looks funny. I tried putting a Vinyl wrap once too, and it was alright, but not very durable. If you want a top quality setup, go for the real stuff. The hardest part will be getting all of the drilling/badges right.

I'm thinking about staining a kit I recently picked up. It already has a stained finished, but it has some rash and scratches and I'd like to go with more of a brown color, so I'm not totally sure how to go about doing it. Should I used some kind of chemical to remove the lacquer coating, so I can sand it? I need to do some research.

Actually, after doing just a little reading on the subject, I think I may just leave it the way it is. I didn't pay much for them and I can live with them the way they are. I've done the cheap ebay wrap before and I'm not sure I want to fool with that, either.

Yeah, I re-wrapped my drums about 3 years ago. Took me about 3 days. I went to www.jamminsam.com They have an instructional video on how to do it and a pretty good selection. I went with metallic purple!

Yeah, I've considered that, but I wonder how that would work wit over stained & lacquered drums. Would I still have to sand it down, before applying the new wraps?

Nah, you shouldn't have to at all. The only pain in the ass part for me was taking off and shining up the hardware. I used Brasso. Worked amazingly well. You also have to drill new holes through the new wrap - that can be tricky with smaller drums.
