I'm juicing... and it's a good thing!

At the suggestion of a friend of mine I watched the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead a couple weeks ago. After watching this movie I was determined to do something about my diet for overall health reasons. I started doing some research shortly after watching the movie and decided to buy a Breville BJE200XL juicer from Best Buy for $100. Today was my first try at juicing and let me tell you.. it aint half bad! Now granted, I havent tried a "Mean Green" drink yet... but the sweet drink I did with my first run through was REALLY nice! Not super sweet like a soda pop, but nice and mild and just to think it was 100% natural! My first juice was the following: 1 Orange 1 Golden Delicious Apple (green) 1 Green Pear 1 Cucumber 4 Celery Stalks For those of you who are not familiar with Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead I suggest you take a couple hours and watch it when you can. It really is an amazing movie. Granted, I'm not ready to do a "reboot" like what they suggest in the film but I will replace a meal a day with some concoction or another. So those of you with experience juicing please share some of your favorite recipies and I will update this with mine as I find good ones :)

err what is Breville BJE200XL...is it a steroid or just a type of drink mix you put in your drink (as oppose to a drink mix you dont put in your drink )

it's a juicing machine. you put your veggies or fruits down the chute and it pulverizes them and the yummy juice comes out ;)

Welcome to the club! I purchased a Hurom Slow Juicer last year and absolutely love it. I have been making nearly all the juice I drink since making the purchase. I can't recommend enough making green juice. I feel so much better after incorporating it into my diet. You're going to be buying A LOT of kale, cucumbers, carrots, beets, etc. etc. Health is wealth!!!

Sorry to rain on the parade but sugar is sugar. Some sugars are better than others, but if you want to improve your diet you need to cut back on sugary foods and drinks. Try keeping a Brita water jug in your fridge and substitute cold water when you would normally drink a processed drink. Juice is great if you're exercising a lot and you're burning off the calories quickly, but I wouldn't expect any substantial changes in overall health if you're simply switching from Pepsi to Pineapple juice.

There's a very large difference between fruit juice and green juice. Even so, I'll take all natural fruit juice I make over the processed, chemical laden shit you can buy in the stores all day.

What Firestorm said is correct. However, if you are working out quite a bit (which is paramount to good health), the nutrients from a good juice are great. I drink water nonstop, and I'm known for carrying around a Nalgene everywhere I go full of water. But if you are working out a lot a solid juice can help quite a bit.

I'm a juicer. Firestorm is correct, but there are juices that are low in sugar. Try this: Kale Spinach Celery Green pepper Parsley Cucumber Any combo of those. I like to add 2 jalapeno peppers which rocks! And some fresh ginger. Go easy on fruit and carrots. High in sugar. I like a sugar juice for breakfast because it gives me energy for the day. I like low sugar green juice the rest of the day. Breakfast: 1/4 red cabbage or a whole beet 2-4 carrots 4-6 celery stalks a whole apple. I use only organic produce and it's worth every penny.

Very interesting thread! My daily juice consists of 10 - 12 oz of piping hot water infused with Italian Roast Coffee! Yum! But all of this healthy vegetable stuff sounds like a good healthy change.

Sounds awful expensive, otherwise I would love to do this. At least I can say, all I've been drinking recently is constant water, two cups of coffee a day max, obviously milk if I have cereal. And obviously lots of beer. But damn I love the water. This time last year all I'd drink is cheap (but delicious) lemonade.

Costs me about 50 bucks a week for produce. I juice 2 meals a day and I have 1 low carb meal. Usually a salad or some kind of protiein. I started 2 weeks before xmas. cheated like crazy a few days around xmas and now I'm back on it. I drop weight fast and feel great. I plan on losing 50lbs. I will juice forever though.

Good for you dude! I myself have been on a diet for the last 8 months and already lost about 35lbs...to tell you the truth, in all the stories you hear about how freaking difficult is to loose weight, I found it to be quiet exaggerated. The first or two weeks are the ones that you might struggle, but once you and your body get used to the change, it becomes quite seamless. Keep it strong!

todays drink is a classic "Mean Green" not sure if I'll ever say I like it.. but it's not terrible. 6 Kale leafs 4 Celery stalks 1 Cucumber 2 Golden Delicious apples 1/2 Lemon Thumb size piece of Ginger. It really is amazing the mess that all this stuff makes in the catcher. Though it's nice that it produces 2 drinks worth of juice. I'll have to get a real jar to store the 2nd days worth..
