I have no idea what to expect but I know I'll be buying it and hope for a quality album.

Not going to get into all kinds of personal stuff here but the short version is that
it's been a difficult time for me due to the illness of 2 people very close to me
and I had some very tough weeks. Did some things and said some things that
were rooted from strain and stress. I will try to post less and live more because
the ride can be over at any time.

Sorry to hear that, hope you are ok.  As for Van Halen, am looking forward to it as it's been so long and a big fan of EVH.  I haven't set my hopes too high though, am not expecting too much from them these days sadly.  Hope I'm wrong and part of me thinks Eddie has had so long to come up with stuff that he's sure to have some killer riffs and solos. 

As stated before, I hope I'm blown away by its awesomeness, but expectation level is set to LOW.

It doesn't even matter if it is a good album or a lame album.  It'll sell wildly and get lots of press just because of the name.  VH has never really made an awful album (III was meh, but it certainly didn't suck at St. Anger levels).  I'm sure it will be entertaining at least for a minute or two.

Re: Van Halen, I suppose I'm curious to hear if the album is any good, but they're far from an auto-buy at this point for me.

DLR just confirmed the new album title and two dates at the Garden on February 28th and March 1st.

I'm interested to see (hear) what the new cd will sound like, but I'll have to hear it first before I purchase it. I just don't have that much confidence in this. We'll see.

The show at the 250-person venue was the band's first since it ended its hugely successful 2007/2008 reunion trek with original singer David Lee Roth. The gig also served to officially kick off the promotional campaign for the new VAN HALEN album, "A Different Kind Of Truth", which will be released on February 7 via Interscope. The CD's first single and video, "Tatoo", will arrive on January 10.

I'm interested in hearing the single and the album. I might go to the concert if it's not super high priced.

I got into VH when 1984 came out and then they broke up. Been a fanatic ever since. Never got to see them with DLR and was never interested in seeing them with Hagar. Looks like I'll finally get to see them in Toronto. EVH has been my hero for the last 28 years. This will be a dream come true.

Cool and the what? They won't last a week. What a lame choice. I may have to pass.

I must say that Kool and the Gang is a huge dissappointment.

I hope the music is solid and the vocals are decent enough to put VH back into the music scene.  I have always favored the Roth era mostly because those tunes were the soundtrack to my developmental years, but I did accept and like Sammy as well.
 
Ed is a classic riff writer and I sure his parts will entertain now that he is sober(?).
 
Hearing the single will certainly give us an idea of what the new VH is capable of.  And I like that the announcement and release date are so close.  Considering the way things leak these days, this info is cool.

Are you 100% sure that isn't a reseller?  I went on the Wells Fargo Center (Philly) site and they are listing at the box office there for $49.50, $79.50, and $149.50.

I saw a video of them at Cafe Wha for last night and it was pretty cool to see VH playing a club with minimal equipment.

I'm not going to buy scalped tickets from ticketmaster. So I won't be going. But I will buy the cd.

I saw some video from the show and wow, Wolfie kinda rips on the "new" song

VH and Kool and the Gang are appropriate touring mates - now that's A Different Kind Of Truth!

I'm actually kind of interested in this album.  I like the Hagar era alot, but they were a different band with Sammy.  I love the Roth material a little more I have to admit.  The only disapointment for me is no Michael, he brought so much more to them then just bass.  His singing ability albeit in the role of back round vocals is what gave them a big part of their sound if you ask me.
 
If the prices aren't outrageous when they go on sale next week, I may check out the Philly show.

With all the conversations about low expectations, do you really think they would tap an opening act that has any chance at all of upstaging them?
 
As for me, I can say with absolute certainty that while I will likely by the album out of curiosity, there is absolutely no way I am going to see Van Halen in concert. I have seen the band three times, once with each of the band's vocalists, and all shows for different reasons resulted in me walking away feeling extremely disappointed and wondering why the band is so highly regarded, especially considering I have seen both Hagar and DLR solo and both put on better solo shows than when I saw them respecitvely as a part of Van Halen (that co-headlining tour was fantastic). Cherone, IMO one of the most underrated and best vocalists in rock, was never given the chance to shine.

I agree. The clip sounds good but there's another 99.994% of the CD still to be heard.
