Homefield advantage through playoffs is nice, but....in 2007, we lost to the Giants in the NFC - finale at Lambeau!

Tensed Dreams Homefield advantage through playoffs is nice, but....in 2007, we lost to the Giants in the NFC - finale at Lambeau! Yeah, but that was with Favre who had 4 open receivers and decided to force the ball to the one guy who was covered. That ultimately lost the game for them. Farvre did the same thing with Minnesota in the 2009 Title game. Rodgers doesn't suffer from the same affliction Favre did so I'd feel better about my chances with him.
I'm addicted to placebos.

Congrats to Drew Brees, new single-season passing yardage leader - with a game yet to play!

Just heard the play-by-play call of Brees breaking Mario's record. Congrats to Brees. But... Is it just me, or does everyone find the scripted highlight calls annoying? "Move over Mario, there's a Brees blowing through"... Whenever one of the "moments" happens, I can picture the play-by-play guy shuffling through his papers to find his script. It never sounds natural. They are all trying to capture the "Do you believe in miracles? YES!" or "I can't believe what I just saw!" moment ahead of time. Just stop it. It doesn't work.

Bummed about Drew Brees breaking Marino's record. I was a huge Marino fan growing up and loved the way he just slung the ball downfield like a true gunslinger. Best pure passer EVER. Brees is a fantastic QB but he's very much a product of his system, his home field and his division. The guy has played an EXTREMELY soft schedule (CAR twice, TB twice, and non-division teams who play zero defense like GB, MINN, DET, St.L, and my NYG. He hasn't played in one cold-weather game all season, and has played most of his games on turf. He struggled a bit in two games played in the AFC on grass.....at JAX and TENN. I'm not saying the guy isn't a great QB, I'm just bummed he broke the record. I feel confident in saying it never would've happened if the guy had to play outdoor games more often.

@AdRock18: I see your point with the schedule and the fact games being played on turf. On the other hand, I feel almost confident about, it would be possible to break both Marino´s and Brees´ record even if a QB plays on grass.

Marino must have played a lot of cold weather games in Miami. Brees broke the record and still has a game to play. He deserves the record!

In 1984, second place Neil Lomax had 4,614 yards and Phil Simms was the only other guy to break 4,000 (by 44 yards). Tom Brady will likely also pass Marino next week, and a total of 7 guys have already passed 4,000, with Romo, Newton and Roethlisberger on the way there next week. Brees has been great, but there's debate as to whether or not he's even the best QB this year. Marino did something that had only been realistically challenged once before this year. Granted, that was Brees in 2008, but I think I've made my point that 5,000 yards ain't what it used to be.

5.000 yards in 84 is a hell of a lot more impressive than 5,000 yards today

It's entirely possible that today's QB is better trained, watches more film, and is just a better athlete than the QBs in 1984. Just sayin'.

don't make sense like that... grumble.. On the flip side though Marino is one of the few guys from the past that would be great in today's game, hence why that record has stood for almost 30 years.

It's a lot more probable that the abundance of laundry on the field is more responsible. After all, most (if not all) players are more advanced than their predecessors. It's simply a different era in the evolution of the sport.

Of course, the defenses are way more complex and have better athletes too. Just sayin'. The other reality is that Brees, Brady, Marino, etc had no friggin' running game. So, of course they throw for 400-500 a game. And seriously, it is being reported that Tebow is a Pro Bowl 2nd alternate. What the fuck? And people really wonder why there is so much Tebow-'hate'

Also, are there only 4 receivers for each team in the Pro Bowl? How can that be? Unless I'm missing something, Victor Cruz really deserves to be there.

When you look at who is above Victor Cruz, it is understandable why he was the 1st alternate. Calvin Johnson REC-85 YDS-1,437 AVG-16.9 TDS-15 Larry Fitzgerald REC-71 YDS-1,262 AVG-17.8 TDS-8 Steve Smith REC-73 YDS-1,308 AVG-17.9 TDS-6 Greg Jennings REC- 67 YDS-949 AVG-14.2 TDS-9 Victor Cruz REC-76 YDS-1,358 AVG-17.9 TDS-8 When you take into account that Green Bay could be in the Super bowl, Victor should be in the PB.

I do see Cruz eventually getting in (from someone dropping out, etc.), but his numbers are still better than Jennings. 9 more catches, 400 more yards, and 1 more TD. That's enough for me... Just because his name isn't Greg Jennings is why he's on the outside looking in right now. On that list, Cruz is 2nd in catches and yards, yet he's 4th overall WR? Doubtful.

Based on stats (although we all know that votes are based on much more than that), Cruz should be the #2 receiver or worst case if you want to put Jennings ahead of him b/c he has one more touchdown then he'd be the #3. Let's not forget that at the beginning of the year Cruz was not even a starter and through 2 games he had 2 receptions for only 17 yard. So in the 13 games since then, he has had 74 receptions for 1,341 yards and 8 touchdowns. Pretty damn impressive from a guy who was not even a starter at the beginning of the year.
