    Vocal's for a drummer.... Help! Saturday, December 17, 2011 9:37 AM (permalink)
Ok, so I'm looking into doing vocals for my band (I'm a Drummer... Look at my Avatar ;) ) and I'm wondering what kind of mic would be required for it in a live/rehersal situation where monitars will be all around me and likely too cause feed back, also something that will pick up my voice while drums are being played by me.

There's so many damn options and sadly I don't have any usable knowledge of mics. Any help would be appreciated. :)

I use an Audio-Technica pro 8 HEX headset mic.  Costs about $80.  Comfortable and works great. I also got a $15 hosa in-line on-off switch so I can mute the mic when I'm not singing.

I've used Audio-Technica ATM75s for years, love 'em

Shure SM87a is supposed to be designed for live use and rejection of "outside" audio sources.  Though it is an omni.  I have one and use it to record my vocals, but not in a "live" situation.  It does a good job though of picking up only what I want it too.  Highly recommended.

I'm using a Beta 87a live and I've had no complaints.  Great sounding mic and it does as good of a job of rejecting outside sound sources as can be expected.  We do all use IEMs instead of floor monitors, though, to keep the stage volume down.
