I'm not a die hard fan, but living in San Francisco I probably would have tried to get in if I knew about this early enough.  That must be insane to have a band this big playing at a venue too small for Porcupine Tree.  Does anyone know if the tickets even went on sale to the public, or do you have to know someone?

It was really cool to see Jason on stage with them again....he was a huge part of the band for me back in the day...

I agree... I'm a big fan of Rob and he fits great with the band... But seeing Jason back on stage with the boys and with his awesome backing vocals and the pure energy he brings... It was really awesome to see, Put a big smile on my face watching those videos.

I love metallica for this kind of events.
I remember that a few years ago they did that insane thing where they played three shows(at 2pm, 5pm and 9pm) in the same day at three really small venues of paris (containing no more than 500 people for the biggest). who does that??
Anyway, I am waiting for the release of those anniversary shows!

Has it been officially said somewhere that the anniversary shows will be released on video or is it just speculation?

^^ I had forgotten that they did that.  Checking a random date or two, I see that they are available as individual tracks or as shows.  Not all tracks are available individually, thought (like the solos).  Does anybody know if those are included if you buy the set?

Cool. Even though I meant an official release on Blu-ray or DVD, I too had forgotten that site even exists.

Of course Metallica will release these shows, and with good reason! That's one hell of a lineup they put together for those dates! Amazing stuff!

Totally loved that Mustaine did the solos on those Kill em All songs. Very cool stuff.

was at all four shows...they were amazing..it really was an amazing week...the shows...they way the set-up the fillmore (ie: posters, museum upstairs, etc...) the congratulatory videos being played...Jim Bruer hosting the festivities and all the fan interaction (the game shows, the fans that got to jam with them on stage)...hanging with people from all over the world that i've met at numerous Metallica shows (i believe these were number 38-41 for me)

i wish i could do it all over again next week...

Okay, so I took a chance and had my earlier question answered.  The first night is available now, but in the song listing, Kirk's solo is not available for download separately.  I bought the FLAC package and it was included, so you do get the entire set, including those that aren't for individual download.  Looking forward to getting the rest of the shows.  Not quite the same as being there, but much, much cheaper than a ticket and airfare.

^ I'm surprised to say this, as Metallica kind of disappoint me live these days, but the video of Carpe Diem Baby kicked so much ass there. That was SO good. What a vibe.

Truely hoping for an 'official' release of all four of these nights. A Blu-Ray box set, full blown audio, back stange bells & whistles release. I'd fok over a hefty chunk of change for such a release, if & when available.

A Blu-Ray would be fantastic, but I don't think there's any way that they will release a complete set of all four shows.  Each ran right at 2.5 hours, so you're talking 10 hours of just concert.  That right there is going to be at least a two-disc set and then with extras on top of that, who knows?  Yes, I would love to have video, but until then, I'll enjoy my flac files.  You can't really beat 10 hours of Metallica plus guests for $52.

By the way, Robert Trujillo absolutely crushes (in a good way) Call of Ktulu and Orion. That dude is legit. I was a fan of his long before he joined Metallica, and he has not let me down. People love their Jason Newsted because he was the "metal" guy who hated the approach the band took, but considering who his replacement was I don't think him leaving was really a bad thing.

Basically when you look back at when Jason played Call of Ktulu, it just wasn't the same. There was something seriously missing, he just didn't really capture any of what made Cliff's parts so great and exciting. The bass is again turned down in S&M but what he's actually playing isn't really driving the song forward as much as it should, and all the dynamics are gone. Rob did those parts justice.

I really wish the band would let Rob stretch out a little more in their studio recordings. I think James is super talented rhythm player, but other than that Rob's bass is definitely the most technically gifted of anything they have going for them (and he has amazing feel to boot, although he might be somewhat limited in that area considering who is rhythm partner is), so a few lead bass parts here and there wouldn't be a bad thing. Seeing what he was able to do with these songs just makes me wish for those parts even more...

I agree with portnoy311 aswell... I'm a massive Jason fan but Rob is the perfect guy for Metallica.
I really loved seeing Jason back on stage for these Fillmore gigs, He really adds alot of energy to the performance and I love his backing vocals, But Rob is just killing it up there onstage.

As portnoy311 said, Songs like Orion, Ktulu and Bells really benifit from Rob's attention to detail and also from Rob playing with fingers and not a pick. He just plays them flawlessly, and hearing him play Anesthesia aswell was awesome!!

And he's a super nice dude aswell.

I would probably download those 'cause the setlists are awesome.... but then again, it's still Lars and Kirk playing there....

I don't know...I listened to some tracks...my expectations were a lot higher than this.  The guitar playing is sloppy, Jaymz's vox are inconsistent (making Justice songs sound like Load...ugh) and horns in a thrash metal song???  I love Metallica and I love the concept, but it's a bit of a letdown for me.
I may be an idiot, but there is one thing I am not, sir, and that, sir, is an idiot.

Im not sure that I think him playing with his fingers rather than a pick is a benefit... in fact, especially with distortion on bass pick is I believe sonically more viable... I really dig his style and love the way I he's been playin these tracks... I however still miss Newsted's style, both stage and play... and as good as rob is, nothing about metallica was ever cool cause it was good, it was cool cause of the style.... They realllllly need Newsted for the backing vocals....

Also, I have seen metallica twice, both with newsted... and I have been let down each time by the band as a whole so.... all my defending of newsted is a big pile of whatever.
