The problem with sharing your own music on the MPF

So often I see threads of people offering their own original music for people to listen to on MPF. You know, "check out my myspage" or "free music inside" threads. And it's great - this forum is a great platform where musicians here make music and show it off. We've even had compilation's of forumer's music made. However, time and time again, these threads just drop off the front page without being checked out by many people, let alone commented. And it's not a big shock that people don't - a lot of the music posted will just be demos, and realistically you're not likely to go back and listen to "that one demo by that one band who posted it on MFP". And I'm as guilty of it as anyone - I have ignored threads like this which could have contained interesting music. So what if, instead of having a new thread every time someone wanted to post their band, some form of megathread is made for the discussion of orignial stuff. People would post their music, give some details, and then critique other people's music who posted in the same thread - some form of "if you post a song, you must check out and comment on 2 other people's songs" - "I'll listen to yours if you listen to mine". And "comment" in this case should probably mean "review/critique", making the thread a place for people to go and get help improving their music. I've seen similar threads work on similar forums. I didn't start one straight away because I mostly wanted to see if people agreed that there is a lack of interest in these "listen to my new band" threads, and also because of mine music I'd post (ambient drone) isn't exactly the mainstream genre of this forum so it wouldn't make much sense to kick off a thread with it. Thoughts? Yes? No?

You may have to ask Wey to create a "Sanctioned" thread. I did, once, start a similar thread, but it was forgotten. (even by me). It was called the "International Amateur cover " thread..or something similar...I will bump it...may not fit your need though, if you are not posting a cover.

Just a metathread with just the (only active and working) links to forummers music would be alright for me. No discussions, just band name and music style. I mostly browse mp.com at off minutes during work and when I come home I don't feel like looking through all the (sometimes cryptic) thread titles to find the one that interested me. Keep them al together.

I don't have much to do with with making music or listening to people's projects but I support the idea. Saves having threads cluttering the page and encourages up-and-coming guys to work together, like you said. Great idea.

odds are it'll never last or be what every forumer does. It would be nice if it did happen and said protocol was followed, but everyone starts new topics, even when older one's exist.

It'd be nice if it were a sticky, too.

I never listen to music samples that people post here. I don't know why; I just don't. It might be a good idea to put them all in a single thread.

It'd just be one of those threads where everyone posts their own stuff and never bothers to read everyone else's. With individual band threads at least you see when there's an unusual interest in a particular project (or at least some staying power).

Yeah, I've seen a few "one-stop" threads disappear into obscurity.

The old DT forum used to have a subforum for posting your own music. I would thank that would be the way to go.
I won't believe anything is true unless I first verify it on the internet

I'm not a fan of ULTRAMEGAGIGAHUGETHREAD kind of thing, I think it's even worse than the "check my band lulz" thread.

Doesn't seem like any one-stop thread ever came to be, so I figure I'll just post this here! Would love some feedback or constructive criticism for this song if any of you have a spare 7 minutes to check it out. The writing process for this one has been taking awhile, and although I have ideas about the direction it needs to go, I'm still a little unsure. Anyway, would very much appreciate anybody, even just a single person, taking the time to check it out! Funny that this topic springs up again, considering my Silent Man topic is going relatively unnoticed.

Hey friends. Just recorded and released a brand new track, by the name of "Bloodshot". It's totally free to download, so please feel free to take a listen and see what you think! Any feedback would be totally appreciated. http://amoswellings.bandcamp.com/track/bloodshot

I completely agree. I just made a thread the other day to promote a friend of mine's music and it disappeared without any one listening to it, from the looks of it.
