New Metallica/Lou Reed clip....

Metallica's official Facebook page just posted a 30 second preview of their new collaboration with Lou Reed.
 
I actually thought it was really cool....*VERY* different.   I'm betting the farm right now that everyone is going to hate it.   (how dare Metallica be....GASP....*DIFFERENT*....DOUBLE GASP)
 
It sounds nothing like Metallica...and I think that's a good thing.   It doesn't re-hash other people's material (like Load and Re-Load did)...to my ears, it's the first truly original thing they've done since RtL....

It sounds good to me, but I can see where people might not like it.
 
I've never heard Lou Reed before, was that him at the beginning of the clip? He sounds a bit like Iggy Pop.

Pretty spot on. I think we can lose the idea that people are only going to dislike it because it's different. People are going to dislike it (it being this clip), because it is terrible.

Wow, I never wrote such a comment before, felt weird, but that was not good. At all.

Btw, I like it. Despite being a 38 second clip of an 88 minute long album, I'm interested. It's different and it's Metallica doing what they want, as oppose to what people want. So maybe this is the most artistic Metallica album since And Justice for All. I hope so anyway.

I really have no idea what I just heard. I'll wait to hear the whole thing before judging it.

Is it? How do you know? Not enough notes? too many words? What defines musical quality to you?
Or maybe you can drop this attitude and admit that music really just comes down to personal taste and that there are plenty of people that are going to love this album and that does not mean their musical tastes are terrible?

People are going to dislike it because they want an old-style metallica album and this one is different from an old-style metallica album. So we conclude that yes, people are going to dislike it because it's different.

Hmm.. I am not really sure. I was thinking (for about 25 seconds) that it was complete garbage. When it started to get more intense (in the vocals and music), it ended. I was definitely NOT impressed, but my interest was slightly piqued at the very end, so we'll see...

Further comments: I think this album will have a lot of spoken word passages. I know spoken word is not exactly big amongst trash metal fans, so I don't think this album will go very far, unfortunately.

I didn't think it sounded as bad as everyone else here has made it out to sound. I'm assuming that was Lou Reed singing the first part and then James came in towards the end? Honestly I thought the music sounded kind of doomy like something Black Sabbath would've wrote. I think a lot of people need to not have certain expectations of this release either. Don't expect a Metallica album because it's not gonna be one. It's gonna be a Metallica and Lou Reed album.

That kind of sucked, but also had elements that interest me in hearing more. It definitely meets what I had hoped for, in that it's not just Metallica w/ Special Guest Lou Reed. This is certainly something new, I'm just not sure it's something good.

That sounded ok to me, still interested to here this.

I like the idea of the clip. Music like that combined with vocals like that can work. It's just that Metallica isn't my thing at all, and Lou Reed isn't quite my cup of tea either. 
 
Now, if this was Tom Waits, Nick Cave and like, I dunno, Opeth? (just the first metal band that pops into my head, I know they're not exactly cut out for this kind of thing) freestyling, it would interest me a whole lot more.

Bet you $5 GlassDream praises this as the only album in recent history to have a solid mix.

Not too rush to judgement, but I was pretty excited for the prospect of hearing Metallica do something new.  I had tried to temper that thought by reminding myself how terrible Lou Reed is... I guess I didn't keep that in mind enough.  That sounded like a self-indulgent piece of shit.

As mentioned before, it's really hard to judge a 30 second clip of an 88 minute album.
 
That said...what the fuck was that? The last couple seconds sounded cool, but the rest of it, just didn't match at all. Maybe it works in context, I won't know till I hear the album, but damn, if that's the sample they are using to draw people in...

Single, but some songs are of epic length...if I recall correctly one was like 19 minutes?

AFAIK...the limitations of CD will NOT go beyond 81...and there are HUGE complications if you try.

How does one put 87 minutes of data on a medium that has a maximum of 80 minutes?

...I was just remembering that a few years back, someone (I think it was Phil Collins) tried to release a CD that went up over 81 minutes and there were productions problems...and then even when the CD got out on the market, a lot of them were getting returned because they were more prone to skip than most CD's.  It was a fiasco and it hasn't been tried very often since.  
 
This is all going from an imperfect memory.  But it was something along those lines.

I took another listen.  God, what a steaming pile of penguin shit
