New Progressive Metal Band Alert: Lost In Thought

Anyone heard of it yet? Just bought their debut CD from The Laser's Edge. It's called "Opus Arise" It's currently putting up stiff competition for spins in my CD player against the Dream Theater CD. Best new progressive metal band since Circus Maximus Seriously, check 'em out. There's a few tracks floating around on your favorite video site.

Sounds very good. I've always been and will always be a sucker for this kiind of power/prog metal. This will go on my 'to buy' list for later because I've got way too much new music coming now to properly digest anything else.

Like we've been speaking about Barry, I am really digging these guys! A step or two heavier than say DT...but it is a gritty egde with a complimenting harmony. The musicianship is just top notch and the vocalist sounds fantastic. He's very powerful. If they were even playing at 3/4 of the skill they are demonstrating it wouldn't work at all for me...you have to be tight and on the nose to get that sound. I wonder how they perform live? Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. These guys are definately a great escape and break from the new DT.....I was getting a bit manic and OCDish about spinning ADToE over and over.
"Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.....Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars." I purchased a Eumeria CD at the same time as when I purchased the Lost in Thought CD. It's called "Rebel Mind" and it's another fantastic debut. Available at The Laser's Edge for just $11.00 too

Wow thanks for the heads up, the samples on itunes sound amazing! I'll be picking this up after I've fully appreciated the new DT, Anthrax, and soon Opeth.

It's more straight ahead metal, but I can't stop listening to it. Check it out.

Yeah Blood Red Diamond is wicked. That riff is so simple but so hooky. The first time I heard it, I pressed pause and went to my keyboard and played it

Great find, never heard of these guys. Had a listen to samples on iTunes, reminded me of some stuff I've been enjoying in recent times namely Vanden Plas , Christ 0 and Pagan's Mind, Celestrial Entrance and Heavenly Ecstacy. Definitely on my list, Thanks.

It's not overly complicated at all, yet, somehow, it's got a certain kind of sophistication to it. I guess it's the melodies. They're really, really good. And the production ain't too shabby either.

I always take these recommendations with several grains of salt, as it difficult for me to get into a lot of bands, even if they are in my favorite genres. I need the whole package to be right: songwriting, vocals, lyrics, complexity...I guess I'm a snob. That said: I am really digging these guys!

fields10 Listening to the album now. pretty awesome! not anything we havn't heard before but still great music! I love the singer... My take on this is I don't think every band has to be something we haven't heard before. This is a genre of music where, like any other genre, there are going to be similarities among different bands. If you listen to a Buddy Guy album and then listen to a Stevie Ray Vaughn album after that, you're not going to hear too much variation in style. Two blues artists playing blues music. If you listen to a Judas Priest album followed by an Iron Maiden album, again, same thing. There are some small differences, but generally speaking, you have two dual-guitar British metal bands with high-pitched vocals in both cases playing the same style of music. I think the problem with the technical progmetal genre is it's a crowded genre, especially these days. What I look for now is not so much uniqueness but quality. And these guys have it. The songs are good, the melodies are good, the lyrics are....decent if a bit pedestrian, and the performances are all very good, as is the mixing and production. That's good enough for me.

I just checked out the samples at eMusic and not only does it sound excellent, but they are selling it for $3.92. I'll pick it up when I get home as the eMusic service only lets you download once to one location. Thanks for the heads up.

I completely agree. I'm constantly searching for new music in the genre's I like. Many bands have some similarities, BUT, if I like it, I BUY IT!. I've purchased about 150 cd's this year alone in the Metal/Progressive Metal genre. Many are obscure bands that I would never find out about unless I dig deep. There is some great stuff out there.

Exactly, popsucks. The way I see it, I either like it or I don't like it. Everything else is just static to me. As far as Lost In Thought goes, I like it.

Mucho thankage for the recommendation. Just got a gift card for iTunes and was looking for some new stuff. Just downloaded both Lost in Thought and Eumeria and I'm loving the balls'nchunkaliciousness of both!! These will definitely be cranking on the iPod all weekend. Just to keep the ball rolling on great recommendations, Myrath have a new album coming out in a couple of weeks and if it's even a fraction as good as the song they have streaming here, this is going to be yet another end-of-the-year monster!

Hate to bring this thread down but is anyone put off this kind of music by the cringetastic pretentious melodrama? I can deal with terrible band names if the lyrics don't go down along with it (old POS) but mentions of 'the ancients cast the sands of time', 'through the void' and 'as the legends told' seal the deal for me. What's creative about that? 'A jewel lost in time'? There's good cheese and bad cheese for me and they're so close that most'd argue that it's all the same. I think it's the delivery of the cheese that makes it what it is. I can take Symphony X mentioning 'the sands of time' for nostalgic reasons and because there's a certain light-hearted humour behind the band. Well, what I mean by that is that they don't take them themselves too seriously. They aren't trying to give the impression that they are 'lost in thought' for example. Dio's another good one. I suppose it's an age thing too. I can't stand the last two Symphony X albums and most of Dream Theater's output from the last decade now sounds pretentious, forced and false to me. Am I alone on this?.......... I am amn't I.
