At first I was a bit disappointed that it's just another EP, then again, their last (and absolutely incredible) album was really short, too, so no big difference. The cover looks awesome as well, reminds me a bit of Nocturnus - The Key. I can't wait!

Note that the label has it listed as "Progressive Rock" (as they did with Re-Traced) while Traced In Air was "Progressive Metal".

As long as it's good and Proggy, that's all I need. No need to worry if it's Rock or Metal.

That just made my day. I'm a little surprised to see Sean Malone in the line-up. I'm not complaining at all. I wonder if "Wheels Within Wheels" is a hint of their new material. I really like that song.

I'm sure we should expect a hybrid of the old school Cynic sound and the Aeon Spoke stuff.. which is fine by me. Traced in Air was so awesome I'll take anything we can get! Re-Traced was ok (love Wheels within Wheels though), but it was meant to be a departure from the sound on purpose. I DO hope that this record isn't why Tymon and Robin left though... erg. Sean and Paul put out some statements about Cynic turning into a 'collective' where they use different musicians based on the needs of the album. cool idea - kind of a prog metal Steely Dan.. haha

I have been waiting to hear from Sean Malone. He has essentially disappeared from the Web! I am a H U G E fan of Gordian knot and I loved his work with MP on Cygnus and the Sea Monsters. I would love to hear some new Gordian Knot!

Paul Masvidal could sneeze and I would put it in my top 5 for 2011. Gonna have to find out why Sean M is such a super dooper bassist...

Staker Gonna have to find out why Sean M is such a super dooper bassist... Check out Gordian Knot, obviously. Still, for my money, his best bass performance is the first Aghora disc. Just crazy great playing on that. And is he the bassist on Traced In Air? I haven't listened to that in forever, and it made such a non-impact on me, I'd be very surprised if he was...

Yeah, that's Malone. And the bass parts on Traced In Air are really subdued, they never come to the foreground like they do on Focus.

Yes, Sean Malone plays on TiA. He's just criminally undermixed and isn't as inventive as on Focus.

Man, I haven't listened to that Aghora disc in a long time. I seem to remember that the Seans are in top form, but I don't really like the songs that much. I'll have to blow the dust off that one soon.

Oh and I´ll just say that Sean Malone is far an above the rest of the bassist world... and I say it as a bassist... he IS bass GOD. Period.

Kyo Sparky The songs are fantastic. It's the singing that hurts them a bit.... The singing is fine, too. The production, on the other hand... The singing is "fine" from a technical standpoint, but it just sounds cautious and tentative to me. Like she never really goes for it. In my opinion.

I have pulled out this album less than Traced in Air so far this year, but it is still awesome. I hope Paul and Sean keep things moving with this band! One hopes that they will re-ignite Aeon Spoke, so they can keep the two entities somewhat distinct - both are great bands but VERY different, and with Carbon-Based, they're really starting to incorporate a lot of the Aeon Spoke sound. Still good, but leaving a lot of the heavy behind...

I read an interview with PM that said they were thinking about doing 2 EPs (I think in addition to CBA) in order to get them out quicker. Like Down is doing, I suppose.

Something about it just doesn't fit into the album for me, but then again it took me a year and a half to appreciate Focus, so I'll keep an open mind.
