Three - The Ghost You Gave to Me (2011)
Tuesday, August 23, 2011 4:22 PM
( permalink)
With all this new info and song now available, this album probably deserves its own topic now. Release Date is October 11th. Pre-order: http://www.metalblade.com/3/ 01. Sirenum Scopuli 02. React 03. Sparrow 04. High Times 05. Numbers 06. One With the Sun 07. The Ghost You Gave to Me 08. Pretty 09. Afterglow 10. Its Alive 11. Only Child 12. The Barrier 3 is a band apart: Dark yet uplifting, spiritual without any connection to religion - theirs is a sound that transcends the genre conformity of modern pop culture. Rapid-fire acoustic guitar infused with dynamic percussion, animated drumming and thunderous bass culminate in a listening experience that is at once accessible and unique. Poly-rhythms pulse within a symphony of driving metal guitars and melodic vocal acrobatics. 3 offers musicality without pretension.

3 does nothing but improve with each real studio album. This is going to be one hell of an album. I hope this time. they get the praise they deserve.

Jeebus, touring with Opeth didn't rub off on them at all, did it? They've never sounded heavier, but they still sound like 3. Bring it!!!!!

Yeah, that song is fantastic. Definitely going up on my radar.

I love this song! Plus the couple of songs I heard them play live from the new album at the last show I went to...I'm so in on this. And I try to spread the gospel of 3 (and of Joey Eppard) whenever I can. They deserve so much more attention.

I went to Kingston NY for see Joey perform one of his solo shows 3 wks ago. Got to hear a few clips from Billy Riker's android. It's like they are another band, more aggressive and heavy. The guitar solos are unreal. Joey is proud of the lyrics on this CD, which is why it took a while to record. They won't be any disappointments, trust me

I seen a few of these songs live last year, and the album is definitely heavier and in line with this song. Can't wait!

WOW! This track is amazing! I loved the last record and have been waiting for this, sounds like they may top it! I'm posting this everywhere, people need to get hip to this band. I'm going to go broke this fall with all the releases coming out, this may be the best stretch of new releases I can remember in a long time. Chris

@ Chris Hinton: LOL! That was the first 3 song I heard. I've known about them but never got around to listen to their music. Sounded good, I'll give the album a spin when it's released.

Thanks to OP for the post and link. Ordered it last night after reading this thread. My first exposure to the band was when they opened for Porcupine Tree. These guys certainly have a very original sound, and they're simply outstanding as a live band. - Brian

yeah, good interview IceDog! I like one of the answers especially: Samantha: What would you say sets you apart from other progressive rock bands? Joey: We're more melody based than most. We're also not an icy cold precision type outfit. We're more fire and brimstone... especially live. I think we're progressive for the right reasons. We seek to push boundaries and create that which is truly unique and new while still being accessible to your average human being. I think the general stereotype is that "progressive" means a bunch of parts stacked on to each other in an attempt to sound complicated and "smart." For us, we're about lyrics and melody... a cinematic type of musical experience. Our latest record has a lot of depth. In fact, the first listen to any given song is somewhat equivalent to reading the first page of a chapter in a book. With each repeated listen you are rewarded with more and more details of the unfolding story that is The Ghost You Gave to Me.

haha, thanks angra1 I liked this part of the interview, nice to read all the pranks that went on backstage during the PN'08 Tour: Samantha: Any stand out moments on tour that you can tell me about? Joey: We've been through it all, but one that jumps out was the last show of Progressive Nation. [Dream Theatre drummer]Mike Portnoy was on his game and had pulled out all the stops as far as pranking us goes. We took the stage and there was pornography taped to all our monitors, the keyboards had certain keys scotch-taped together, the drums were covered in baby powder so that first snare hit resulted in a lingering cloud of baby-scented perfume! Then there was a steady stream of vegetables being hurled in our direction. Don't worry though, we teamed up with Opeth & BTBAM [Between the Buried and Me] and exacted our revenge during Dream Theater's set. The Opeth guys picked up some cheap plastic golf clubs and ping pong balls and we took turns pummeling them from side stage. I remember nailing [Dream Theatre] lead singer James Labrie in the head. He didn't look too pleased... We got Mike [Portnoy] pretty good too, he had a mic on a boom that would swing out from behind him whenever he had a vocal part to cover, so the BTBAM guys attached a banana cream pie to it and got him right in the face as it swung around. All in good fun!

Pretty sure this is a really good disc, but right now I'm just trying to get over it being waaaay less heavy than the first preview track they released (the title track, maybe?). I mean, it's a 3 disc, basically...

Finally got round to buying this album, it's $5 on Amazon right now. One full listen through and it's really good, some great moments all round. Have a bit of music to catch up to from last year, BTBAM plus Russian Circle's Empros are all $5 on Amazon right now so just absorbing them all now.
