I'm actually *LOVING* the first two albums as well. Highlights include, "Hearts a Mess", "State of the Art" and "Thanks for Your Time"... I havn't heard a track I didn't like yet from anything off all three albums. Truly amazing stuff. I'm hooked.

Well...she's certainly cuter... I heard one single from her. It wasn't bad, but it didn't grab me like *ALL* of Gotye's stuff has. I might give her another shot though.

sdfdsv Kimbra > Gotye as far as albums from 2011, I definitelty agree. But I still feel Making Mirrors is a good record, well beyond "Somebody That I Used to Know." But Vows is breathtakingly good. It's just filled with such strong earworms, I can say I have memorized most of the album.

bump. 65 million views on Youtube, LOL. "Somebody That I Used To Know" is currently #8 on the US iTunes chart. #1 in the UK, Denmark and Ireland. #3 in Germany, Austria and Canada, #2 in Luxemborg and Sweden and #6 in the Netherlands. The shows in Minneapolis and Chicago got moved to bigger venues. Tickets go on sale for the Mpls show at Noon (and hopefully those filthy Scalpers won't have a chance to bogart them again).

I know how you feel angra, I was planning to get tickets for Gotye/Kimbra in Toronto, and they sold out a little too freakishly fast. All I can think of is, if only this damn song had waited a couple more months to blow up, wouldn't be having this problem :P. That said I'd mainly be going for Kimbra, even though I do enjoy some of the Gotye stuff. I'd definitely be in the camp of Kimbra being much better, or more accurately I just prefer her I guess, as I don't think their really comparable. Vows has yeah, way more that hooks me than Making Mirrors, still a good album though. EDIT: Think that their North American shows will now be about 50% people who only know the one song? Maybe too soon for that but, that'd sure be annoying for them I bet.

The guy is taking off around the globe in a big way. I'm loving Making Mirrors. It has been a really long time since I've discovered a pop artist that I can truly enjoy. We're talking since back in the 80's probably. I'm wondering why you can't get his "Like Drawing Blood" album from amazon as a cd? They always have some sellers with imports up for sale there, but not that album. Looks like ebay is going to have to be the place for that purchase.

You think that's bad? Try being Australian and having loved Gotye for at LEAST five years before this song came out. He is awesome though, I am stoked for his success. Also, because it's relevant to the thread, here is a cover of said song that I was involved with. Mind you, it is played on four iPads and you can't really see what we're doing. Still, enjoy! I'm the guy with the big hair, doing lead vocals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmkiasoBPhk

I was looking for LDB *everywhere* and coming up empty...then I found out you can buy it directly from his website. Supports the artist, supports good music...win/win. I'll be picking it up as soon as I get some work.

My wife loves this song. Just bought it on Amazon and the bass lines reminds me of Faster Pussycat's Only Way Out. Great song by the way.

I'm still not bored of it, even after hearing it on the radio several times daily. Usually by now I would hate it - eg: 'Someone Like You' - Adele. If I hear that once more I think I will throw the offending radio out of the nearest window! Oh, and cool link liquid_tennor!

The bass singer and the vocal percussionist are so tight and the range all 5 of them cover is awesome. This is the group that one the most recent season of The Sing Off and rightly so.

I listened to 'Vows' once all the way through last night, didn't click immediately but there is definite potential in there. Will give it another couple of spins during the week and see where it takes me!

Gotye likes/liked DT: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17230510 In school bands, Gotye played the drums - trying to mimic the intricate double-kick drum patterns of "super-nerdy progressive metal" groups like Dream Theater and King's X. "But at some stage in my early 20s I became more interested in writing songs and producing," he says.

I'm trying to figure out if it's my crappy car stereo or not. I don't usually notice a really BADLY mastered "hot" CD unless it's really extreme. Like Vapor Trails or Death Magnetic. But yesterday I was listening to Making Mirrors and it seems like there were some parts that were "clipping out" on me. It seemed weird to me because the CD seems to have decent dynamic range (that is, the soft parts actually sound soft, and not the same volume as the loud bits) But when it *does* go loud, I feel like it's clipping. Anyone else noticed this? Does Gotye oversee his own stuff ala Steven Wilson? Seems like he's geeky enough to be that into it.

BTW...as a side note.... Gotye's Portland show (which I'm going to) has been moved from Wednesday April 11th to Monday April 9th because he's been invited to do Saturday Night Live that weekend (the 14th) so he needs to be in NYC for rehearsals. Kindof a cool break for him....first Jimmy Kimmel, now SNL.

jammindude, I do kind of know what you mean, some songs just seem way better produced than others. Don't Worry We'll Be Watching You for example, sounds sublime to me personally, as it stays quiet and trippy for the whole thing. But some other songs, the most guilty one being I Feel Better I think, something just sounds really wrong with it, and I avoid listening to it.

I heard a remix of it on the radio while catching a ride with some friends and thought they murdered the song. To me, adding a robotic drumbeat is a quick way to suck the life out of a tune. I certainly prefer the original.

Hey jammindude, I haven't noticed any clipping at all and I've spun that album in my two cars, my home stereo, my computer and a small ipod dock. It has a very large dynamic range and the loud parts are hitting quite hard, but I've not noticed clipping and certainly nothing like Death Magnetic or Vapor Trails. His mix is very much like a Marillion mix with a big dynamic range. His "Like Drawing Blood" album has some crackles, but I think it is the samples he used, especially since it happens on some very quite parts. Just old vinyl's that crackle and not clipping.

Ok...thanks BG. I thought I heard some of what Scherztastic was talking about. Even in "Hearts a Mess" from LDB, it feels like it goes into overdrive when he hits the really high notes. I'll go back and get some more specific examples from MM and see if I can't nail down what I'm hearing exactly.

That is one of the sections I was talking about when I said I had heard some in my last post. It seems like it is from the sample that he used and that it was done on purpose. Kind of like Marillion's If My Heart Were A Ball It Would Roll Uphill. There are definitely some crackles in that one.

I've actually been wondering if the crackles that start on If My Heart Were A Ball It Would Roll Uphill are intentional or if something is messed up with my cd on that song. The crackling starts at about 5:10 and lasts for a good while.

BrickGlass/jammindude/anyone else: Would you say Like Drawing Blood is worth picking up? I like most of this album (First three songs, Smoke and Mirrors, State of the Art, Don`t Worry, Giving Me a Change, Bronte), but I'm not entirely sold on the whole thing, so I'm just curious as to how that one compares.

I think Like Drawing Blood is quite a bit better. I like most of Making Mirrors, but I think it gets a little boring from Don't Worry thru Save Me. Like Drawing Blood is non-stop win. I love every note. If you get to be an addict, you can pick up his debut, Boardface from his website. It has some great stuff on it...a few more guest vocalists...almost sounds like a Portishead album in places...but I love it as well.
