I thought there might be a more current thread than this, but I can't seem to find it.

    Jammindude:

Does anyone know if there is a pre-Moving Pictures complete concert video in the vault somewhere??? Obviously there are snippets here and there....they must be from some sort of complete source....right??

     ytserush:

There's black and white footage out there about 35 minutes or so from when the opened for someone (Was it Kiss?) at the Capitol Theater in Passaic New Jersey in 1976. Some of that appears on the documentary.
I'm guessing that they have that Rutsey show somewhere in the vault too considering how much of it made it on the documentary.  They should release that someday although demand for it would probably be very limited.

I'd love to be wrong, but I really don't think this DVD sees the light of day in September.
Would be great if it did though to be the centerpiece of Rush Hashanah which is the following day.

Looks like VH 1 Classic IS going to honor Rush and their fans with Rushanah on Sept. 28 this year according to a VH1 Classic program listing on Rush Is A Band.
In addition to the usual suspects (Classic Albums: 2112/Moving Pictures, Beyond The Lighted Stage, Rush In Rio and R30) that have been aired over the last several years VH1 Classic will be premiering the new Live In Cleveland DVD.

VH1CL Wed, Sep 28 8:00 PM Rush: Time Machine New
VH1CL Thu, Sep 29 4:00 AM Rush: Time Machine
VH1CL Thu, Sep 29 8:30 AM Rush: Time Machine
VH1CL Thu, Sep 29 5:00 PM Rush: Time Machine
    VH1CL Sat, Oct 1 12:00 AM

It also turns out that either just 2112 or the entire opening set (about 35 minutes) will be among the bonus clips when this comes out in November.

It's also possible that the remaining footage (not much) with Rutsey that did not make the documentary will also be among the bonus material.

          More news:

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Sep 20, 2011) - Legendary rock band Rush have announced details for the first offerings through their recently announced partnership with Roadrunner Records. On November 8, Anthem/Roadrunner will simultaneously release a two-disc live album entitled "TIME MACHINE 2011: LIVE IN CLEVELAND" as well as "MOVING PICTURES: LIVE 2011" on vinyl and digital formats.
Captured in April at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena during the renowned trio's extensive Time Machine World Tour, "TIME MACHINE 2011: LIVE IN CLEVELAND" marks the band's first live album recorded at a U.S. show, a deliberate nod of gratitude to the first city to support Rush on its radio airwaves. The wildly popular tour featured a set filled with classic hits, fan favorites, and a glimpse into Rush's forthcoming 20th studio album "CLOCKWORK ANGELS." As a centerpiece for the concerts, the band performed their landmark album "MOVING PICTURES" in its entirety -- a first in the band's long and illustrious career. Rave reviews of the tour included The Hollywood Reporter's declaration that "the current Time Machine jaunt is nothing less than a must see... for nearly three hours, with intermission, Rush proved why it remains among rock's elite live acts." Full track listing for "TIME MACHINE 2011: LIVE IN CLEVELAND" attached below.
"MOVING PICTURES: LIVE 2011" marks the first live recording of the band's most successful album to date. Originally released in 1981, this year marks the 30th anniversary of "MOVING PICTURES," which features some of Rush's most well-known songs like "Tom Sawyer," "Limelight," and "YYZ."
In related news, Rush is also releasing "Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland" on BluRay and DVD formats on November 8 via Rounder Records in the U.S. and Eagle Rock Entertainment abroad. VH1 will be airing a 2-hour concert culled from the footage as part of their annual "Rushashana" program on September 29. This fall, Rush will be returning to the studio to resume work on their highly anticipated 20th studio album, "CLOCKWORK ANGELS" due out in 2012.
With more than 40 million records sold worldwide and countless sold-out tours, Rush -- Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart -- is not only one of the most inventive and compelling groups in rock history, but remains one of the most popular. The RIAA has certified Rush for the third most consecutive gold/platinum studio albums by a rock band, topped only by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Rush's vast catalog includes such classics as 1974's self-titled debut, 1976's "2112," 1981's "MOVING PICTURES," 1996's "TEST FOR ECHO," and 2002's "VAPOR TRAILS." Rush's most recent studio album, 2007's "SNAKES & ARROWS," debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, marking the band's highest chart debut since 1993, as well as their eleventh top 10 album in the U.S. In addition to their commercial success, Rush has also been recognized with a number of Juno Awards and multiple Grammy nominations, including one for the acclaimed documentary "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage" at this year's gala event. Enjoying a recent pop culture renaissance, Rush made a rare television appearance -- their first in over 30 years -- on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" and a memorable cameo in the film "I Love You, Man." A career-chronicling Rolling Stone feature summed up the renowned rock trio's continuing artistic vitality by observing, "It's true that Rush doesn't mean today what it did in '76 or even '96. It may mean more."

YES, and  I was there!  Can't wait for Cleveland to FINALLY get some recognition.  We are constantly bypassed by so many other bands and tours.  It's really sweet that RUSH showed us some LOVE! Thank you, Geddy Neil and Alex!

I believe they are also premiering an edited version of the DVD one night this week on VH-1 Classic as part of their annual Rush-hashanah - 24 hours of Rush.

Glad to see VH-1 Classic is still slated to air the show this week - looks like they've now got one hell of a jump on the actual release considering Amazon just bumped the DVD/Blu-Ray release YET ANOTHER month to 12/20/11. (DAAAAAAAAMIT!!)  BTW, be sure to scan the crowd near Geddy during the opening song - a bunch of folks were sporting the "big nose" glasses, which had Geddy pretty much smiling from ear to ear throughout the song.

Edit:  looks like possibly just the Blu-Ray got bumped to December.  Amazon still has a November release date for the DVD...we shall see.

I'm guessing Best Buy might have the Blu Ray exclusively from Nov 8th until December 20th.

^That would make me very angry considering how much I despise Best Buy, but I may have to bite the bullet on this one if that ends up being the case.  Looks like Blu-Ray is not even a preorder option from Best Buy right now though - only seeing CD, DVD and Vinyl.

I despise Best Buy too, but if they get an exclusive on this for 6 weeks, I'm in. Plus, they might have bonus material not available on other versions. I know that was the case for the Replay x 3 DVD box set a few years back.

One thing I do know: it's taking far too long to get this f*cker released.

All right, so I'm a little confused...

                          1) "Test for Echo" is a classic?
                          2) They're releasing two live albums/DVD's?  What's the difference between "Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland" and "Moving Pictures: Live 2011?"

                            1) Classic? No. Excellent? Yes.
                            2) The first one is a 2CD/2DVD/Blu-ray release. The latter is a Vinyl/Digital album version of only Moving Picture's songs live.

I've been a fan since '81, and TFE is a top 5 album for me.   I know I'm in the minority, but IMO, Test For Echo perfected the sound that Counterparts failed to achieve.

I've been a fan since '81, and TFE is a top 5 album for me.   I know I'm in the minority, but IMO, Test For Echo perfected the sound that Counterparts failed to achieve.

                                    Wow.  Really?

We're at opposite ends on that one.

Counterparts>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>T4E simply for the lack of the horrible, what-were-they-thinking "Dog Years."

Rush *needed* to recapture their rock roots....so Counterparts was a *very* important album.   But at first, it was almost like they were "trying too hard"...."OOHHH Look how METAL we can be!  We're just like Soundgarden!!"   (for a perfect example, see "Stick It Out"....never liked that one, but it's a perfect example of "trying too hard" to be "metal")  There are some STELLAR moments (Animate, Cut to the Chase, Alien Shore, and Cold Fire are big stand outs for me)...but I would put the terrible lyrics from BtSaM up against Dog years any day of the week.   And Nobody's Hero was great at first...but just seemed WAAAAY too preachy on repeated listens.

On Test For Echo, I feel like they had gotten it out of their system.   They weren't trying to be metal, they were just being Rush back in their groove.     I'll admit that Dog Years and Totem are the weak points of the album...but Virtuality (another song people dislike for reasons completely lost on me) is one of the best rock riffs Alex has ever written....same for Time and Motion and Color of Right.

Counterparts might have a *mild* edge on lyrics...but if you were to listen to an instrumental version of both albums, I think T4E would stand out by a LONG shot.

I love Test For Echo (and Counterparts too!). I don't know if I'd put it in my top 5, but I consider it to be a classic.

The only songs I'm not all that enthused about are Test for Echo and Carve Away The Stone.
Are there some lyrical headturners on that album? Sure.  But I'd put Totem, Half The World, Driven, Time And Motion, Resist and The Color Of Right up against the best that Rush has ever done.

Less than 21 hours until 24 hours of Rush on VH1 Classic..... (I found it odd that they used footage from Snakes and Arrows Live in the commercial when that is the only 21st century Rush DVD concert that won't be aired tomorrow).

I would have a really tough time picking my favorite from TFE...too much competition...but Totem wouldn't be in the running.    Probably Driven would come out #1...but Half the World, Color of Right, Time and Motion, Virtuality, Resist and Limbo would all be very close.

Dog years is a pretty rad little tune..  and it's funny and smart..I'd rather be a tortoise from Galapagos Or a span of geological time

After watching this DVD for like the third time this year, I can't help but come to the conclusion that I like the first set better than the second without including the encore because that's its own animal.

I enjoyed the whole show (fanboy!)
Marathon, Presto and Faithless in set 1 vs. Vital Signs, The Camera Eye and ..... well, those were the only nuggets in set 2 .... the reworked intro to La Villa was fun, especially the Boston trainwreck version
                                                          (NO GUITAR!).

The DVD tho is probably the best one they've ever released. Sam and Scott did a fantastic job of directing and editing... even tho they didnt get any closeups of me *sobs!*
