James Labrie Static Impulse Tour Cancelled!

Just got this email about James's tour:
 
Hello
We have been notified that the James LaBrie tour for Nov - Dec has been cancelled
All tickets are being refunded this evening
We apologize for this and was just given the info approx 5 minutes ago
We ask for everyone to be patient as we have over 500 tickets sold and this will take throughout the night into tommorrow and then your credits will appear on your credit card statements sometime soon after
but we can assure you all tickets will be refunded

Whats up with that?! Was the tour not selling enough? I am saddened by this.

Hopefully this isn't true, my band is opening up for the 2 Canadian dates!

I think the email meant to say that 500 tickets were sold for that particular show. I could be wrong tho.

Anyone got any more info on this?

*To be fair Enter The Vault only sells VIP tickets, so 500 VIP tickets is not to shabby. Something tells me it's something else.

I knew it had nothing to do with ticket sales.

this is so stupid. Right, I don't actually get how whoever hands out visas or whatever, gets this put on his desk, "musician needs temporary access to gig in the country". DENIED. Like, what?! I just can't see a reason why. People are annoying!

Yes it's unfortunately true. We ran into a big snag with immigration and work visas so at this point we had no option but to cancel. This is a big blow to all of us in the band. I feel sick about this. We have such an incredible band and there was nothing more we wanted to do than play this for the fans. It's not good no matter how u look at this. I am deeply sorry and will do all I can to make this up to you on e we figure it out.

I'm calling bull on this whole "legal documents" thing. How long has James been doing this? it's nothing more than a graceful way of saying "no body is interested and we hardly sold any tickets." Sorry James, at least Portnoys side projects sells tickets...

I call bull on your flamebait. If that was the case, they would have canceled closer to the tour's actual start date, giving the tickets a goodly amount of time to sell.

well, some folks know how I felt when Andre Matos Visa wasn't cleared in time for ProgPowerUSA last year. Sucks. Hopefully he'll be able to make it up in 2011.

This immigration thing with the visas for artists has been a real problem lately.
 
Glenn (Progpower Organizer) has said that its hell going through the process. He has had Vanden Plas booked a couple of times (about 7 months or more ahead of time), only to cancel a couple of weeks before because immigration rejects their visas.
 
500 VIPs tickets have sold so far. I think it's a pretty good number for VIP tix.

After reading it... It was a bit harsher than I intended. It's not hate speech Wey... It's an opinion. If it was really a documentation problem, don't you think they would have waited to cancel until the tour was closer as well giving them every chance to work out the issues? Or perhaps only cancelled the tour dates that posed the problems or the first few dates to buy them more time? Like I said... I'm calling bull!

You are entitled to your opinion but I'm sorry that last sentence in your post is very uncalled for.

As far as the tour being cancelled, that sucks. I was probably going to go to the NYC show. Not to mention James seemed incredibly excited about the tour. I feel bad for him!

I don't think it's so much with James as it is with the other guys in the band.

Appeal processes take longer than the regular processing times. I would assume they did all they could before canceling the dates.

Maybe I'm just pissed cause I'm one of the 500 who have tickets already. Snapple, you're probably right. But wouldn't you think James would hire a good tour manager to make sure all that stuff is taken care of. Regardless, this sucks and I'm sad to miss this show and I DO feel sorry for James.

I was unable to go to this tour because there was no New England stop.
 
But, man am I bummed for James... he must have tweeted like 50 times about how excited he was about this tour.

The tour manager can only do so much. It's not up to him whether US immigration accepts their visa request. You submit the paperwork and you wait. Trust me, I've dealt with immigration numerous times as I used to live in the border. Sometimes it just depends on the officer's mood....

LOL. I could only wish it would be that way...Vanden Plas is another great band that has been shafted with the immigration process..Check them out if you haven't. I think Evergrey had problems with their visas as well IIRC (also, give them a try..they both rock!)

Ouch, that sucks.  Maybe he should have an American band lineup and then a European band lineup just in case of situations like this.
 
But really, why reject a musician's visa?  That's messing with their livelyhood.

It seems we've been hearing a lot about this in the last couple of years.  Marillion has mentioned the visa process as a big factor in not playing in the states anymore.

I was getting ready to make plans to fly to LA for the show there.
