halfway through the 1st book, and so far im really liking it, i kinda already know what's gonna happen thanks to someone spoiling some of the outcomes, damn them!! but, gonna carry on reading nonetheless. really looking forward to the series too, looks awesome!! and its a good job i have a pile of books the size of that bloody throne to get through and i dont see me stopping buying, so waiting for the next book wont be that bad, the one after that might be an issue though haha.

Saw the rumor that they will show 2 episodes in a row to kickoff the series. Should make for a great night.

Outstanding. I can tell from the first 15 minutes that HBO is going to be doing a superb job with this series!

The preview looks great! I'm so excited for this, the books are the best fantasy/fiction books I've read so far! Has there been made an official statement about the number of episodes in the first season?

Wow! Watched the 14 minute preview. It looks perfect! The production style and tone is exactly what I was hoping for. This is actually how I wished they had made the Lord of the Rings movies. I personally don't care for the Lord of the Rings movies (although I loved the books) and how they turned out. If they had made them more in this kind of style I would have loved them. I just signed up for HBO. I wonder if they're going to get hit with a ton of new subscribers for this series since there's already a large fan base out there.

JeffV I just signed up for HBO. I wonder if they're going to get hit with a ton of new subscribers for this series since there's already a large fan base out there. I can assure you that HBO does track how many new subs they get by week, and they do tie it to new series that are launching. This is a huge factor in renewals for them compared to broadcast and cable that relies on ratings. Ratings don't exactly provide advertising revenue to HBO, as there are no ads. This is precisely how you get a second season.

^^ Umm..woah! Two masterful story tellers in a feud. I'm actually kind of surprised that GRRM didn't care for the ending of Lost. I would think being a writer himself he would have appreciated why they did it that way. Then again, he would probably argue they should have spent 5 years between each season in order to get it right! However, I have to say I like Lindelof's attitude that he'll continue to be a massive Game of Thrones fan, regardless of what GRRM says about him and his work.

I don't know how anyone who is a writer could really appreciate the ending of Lost. At least, people who have carefully created a story and then struggled over coming up with a ending are frequently at odds with Lost, as it has a huge non-ending and a complete copout non-answer. At least, that's how most of my friends break down--those interested in the creative process were pissed, while those interested in a happy ending were happy enough. However, I loved the Lost guy's comment that he can expect the next comment from GRRM in the feud... in five years.
The problem is, or rather one of the problems, for there are many, a sizable number of which are continually clogging up the civil, commercial, and criminal courts in all areas of the Galaxy, and especially, where possible, the more corrupt ones, this.

^ Ok, well I grant you that there will always be a divide of opinions (among writers and non-writers) on what is an appropriate ending for any story. I think people just have fundamentally different expectations and standards for how stories should be written and no matter what any writer does, there will always be people who like it and those who don't. Now knowing GRRM's opinion on the Lost ending, does this imply that his series will end with no hanging mysteries whatsoever? I'm not going to raise any spoilers here, but there are definitely some unanswered mysteries established in book 1 that have never been addressed nor show signs of ever being revealed. I'd already made some interpretations between the lines, but perhaps he'll somehow reveal all in the later books.
