Kiss dare U2 and the Rolling Stones to a Stadium Contest - Friday, March 12, 2010 4:52 PM

Never one to shy away from saying, well, anything, Gene Simmons has called out U2 and the Rolling Stones. Speaking on XFM Radio in the UK, the Tongued One said that he and Kiss would crush Mick Jagger and Bono in a stadium duel.

"I would love to play on the same stage as U2, the Stones and anybody out there who considers themself a world champion," challenged Simmons. "You come on up on that stage with us, baby. Show me what you got, and then we'll show you what the big boys do."

While the likelihood of such an event seems doubtful, Kiss has arguably out-dueled the competition when it comes to licensing, recently lending its name and likeness to M&M's and Dr. Pepper. Now the men behind the make-up -- Simmons and his Kiss co-founder Paul Stanley -- are readying their own children's show.

Little else is known about the Kiss-sanctioned kids program, which the band announced Tuesday was in development with Canadian production company E1 Television. Simmons and Stanley will serve as executive producers of the yet-to-be-titled half-hour series, which they hope will expose the group to a new generation of consumers, er, fans.

What does that even mean?  Is Gene still in 3rd grade?  Why did I even ask that?

Music shouldn't be competitive, IMO.

It's the kind of stuff like this that makes me want to listen and see Kiss less and less. Their old music is great, but now they're a cover band of themselves.

I personally think this is funny. No, I have no idea what it means, but the concept got me laughing. I'm sure Gene said it purely for hype, but just think about what it would be like to see him, Mick, and Bono on stage at the same time. It'd be pretty interesting, that's for sure.
Wait...now I'm confused...

Iron Maiden would crush Kiss...any fucking day of the week.

Maiden's the real deal. Kiss is a travesty.

I don't know why Iron Maiden was brought up? He didn't mention them.
Gene and the boys would blow U2 and the RS off the stage.
I got to see Kiss w/makup a few years back and it was fun.
Gene knows Marketing. I'm glad they are still around doing their thing.

Iron Maiden was brought up (best post in the thread by the way) beacuse as opposed to U2 and The Rolling Stones they put on a similar kind of big production "metal" show but do it better than KISS, at least in my opinion.

I gotta disagree.
I have seem both Metallica and Iron Maiden live, and I came to the conclusion that Iron Maiden owns way much.
Don't get me wrong, Metallica puts a great live show, but nothing compares to the energy of Maiden.
Carpe Diem !

This is fucking hilarious, I love this.  Gene Simmons lacks the self righteousness of the other bands, so I think I'm rooting for KISS in this one.

Really... Gene is like  Sharon Osbourne in the Marketing  issue. Wait... maybe Sharon learnt from Gene.

Iron Maiden doesn t need to  show up to crush Kiss... they just send Eddie.

Say what you want about Kiss, but Gene Simmons is a marketing genius.  Doesn't matter how much everyone hates him or his band.  The dude knows how to market his band, and his brand.

HAHA this is awesome, that's Gene for ya.
I dont drop money on concerts anymore but if I was still inclined to do so I'd see KISS, one of the few bands that I listen to that don't have an album I don't like. As far as stage show, the only bands mentioned in this thread that I have seen is Maiden and Metallica, Metallica is less than impressive live and IM  was tight as hell, I dunno how they would compare to Kiss though.

Personally do not believe music should be competitive but GENE likes to make money and to do that he makes noise... to answer is this 3rd grade? Yes it is... the more noise the more attention.

I'd kill to have a guy with 10% of Gene Simmons skills in my band....I'd be signed and on tour as we speak!

I think it's a great idea, combining all three bands for a challenge, for a change in the industry.
I can't really say if they are going to accept, but it should be seen as an invitation and not a challenge.
Be a minimalist. It's the least you can do.
