Top 5 Favorite Final Fantasy characters

Their ranking is:

5. Vincent (FFVII)
4. Tidus (FFX)
3. Balthier (FFXII)
2. Kefka (FFVI)
1. Sephiroth (FFVII)

Not a terrible list, but I'd dump Vincent and Tidus, for sure.  Sephiroth and Kefka are pretty much undispoutable, but I'd change it up a little (I judge based on character strength and story):

1. Sephiroth (7)
2. Terra (6)
3. Shadow (6)
4. Kain (4)
5. Laguna (8)

of course there are MANY others to choose from:

Kefka, Rydia, Balthier, Cloud, Vivi, Basch, Auron, Tifa, Locke, Edgar/Sabin, Freya (9)

Tidus made it to their top 5 but Cloud didn't?  I found Tidus to be insanely annoying for the first 3/4 of the game until he finally started to mature.  My list goes like this -

1.  Sephiroth (such a tragic character)
2.  Cloud
3.  Auron
4.  Balthier
5.  Basch

I just got Final Fantasy XIII and Snow and Lightning are quickly becoming favourites.  Time will tell if they'll knock anyone out of my top 5.

Why doesn't anyone pick Barret? He's got the best dialogs in the game.

Seph is overrated. Ok, deep background story, cool character, freaking insane, but cmon, that's kinda too much.

There's one totally underground character no one ever remembers, but still got a lot of personality and cool-though-not-so-detailed background story. Ritz, from FF Tactics Advance.

Fat Chocobo. The big fella is freaking bizarre.

Cid, of course. From most Final Fantasy games.

And Kefka because he's the best game boss ever.

Kefka is the most awesome video-game boss ever.
Ritz is kind of an unknown character, but she's got some deep personality and background.
Barret has the best dialogs in FFVII.
Fat Chocobo is the most bizarre creature out there. He deserves this place.
Cid must be mentioned for being a different character in every FF game, but especially for being in every game.

WTF?!

Of course Sephiroth is number one. Why should the most criminally overrated villain from the most overhyped and overrated Final Fantasy game in all of existence be otherwise.

Here's mine.

1. Kefka (did Sephiroth actually rearrange the entire face of a planet and doom it to a very slow death? I don't fucking think so!!!!)
2. Kain (best anti-hero)
3. Ultros (greatest comic relief villain of all time)
4. Cyan (undoubtedly got fucked the hardest of any FF character, including Mr. Super Emo from 7...y'all know who I'm talking about)
5. Garland (for having the greatest and probably most quoted horrible line of any Final Fantasy game)

Also...gabrielkfl...sorry to disappoint you, but Cid is not in every Final Fantasy game. He made his first appearance in Final Fantasy II.

Tricky. Personally I'd go with the following:

3. Seymour (He was quite freaky but I liked his character)

Seymour was one character that just would not die!  Just like Kuja in FFIX and Jenova in FFVII - how many times did you need to kill him before he was actually, properly dead!?

3. Auron (FFX)
4. Basch (FFXII)
5. Zidane (FFIX)

I have to say that I'm really starting to like the characters of FFXIII, but I'm not going to include any after playing for maybe 6-7 hours.
