Nicolacci I could do the video, I'm experienced with vegas, premiere and after effect that would be awesome. finding the video guy was gonna be the hardest i thought now you do realise that youll have to sync 200+ videos to a soundtrack, with split screens, and have some cool transitions and effects too ? if you can manage all that, cheers

crazyfatkid ViolinTheater yosoad98 ViolinTheater I would do it, but I can't improvise...stupid classical training. I can play for the opening string part, and any little solos anyone can write and send me I would gladly tape for the middle section! What do you mean you cant improvise?? As far as I know, we`re also taught to improvise. And your idea of the opening part is interesting. It would be kind of the orchestral intro in the score dvd. Yes, I can add the opening, but I am only 16, and although I am a serious student, I have had no training in improvisation. But can someone write parts to me, chords, little stuff that they want to add and I can play it? if you know what i mean by the version of metropolis, the solo section is just a static 2 note bass thing that leaves a lot of space in between bars. if youve learnt any paganini or any show-offy semiquaver-run style pieces all you have to do is play them in the right key!! Oh god I would be so excited to do this....I can play Paganini (after lots of slow and labored practice :D) but I cannot for the life of me compose something like that. KirksNoseHair has the same problem with me when I record violin for his album...my inability to improvise or compose gets in the way, I am so grateful to him for putting up with me haha.....

^ awesome! ill see about where to put other violin parts within the original song too, Score-style Johnny.Swift, since so many drummers only have a video camera (cant blame them, 10+ mics and a mixer dont come cheap), can you do anything with camera-quality audio? some cameras sound is ok i think, its just that most tend to have auto-volume things that compress it, and the cymbal usually over-rides (see what i did there) everything else

Taffer so can I join this with my quality of vid? I imagine I can make it sound better with EQing and better tuning i just watched your metropolis and the sound is way better than i expected from a camera... as Johnny.Swift said, he'll do all the mixing, so if you just get the best possible sound out of your drums you can it'll probably be sweet!

awesome! I'll experiment with camera positions to get the most un-nasty sound. Maybe  above, behind my seat so that only one cymbal isn't hogging the limelight. and I'll do a strip too. totally excited for this! nice one man.

So how are you thinking this would be passed around? Sorry if you mentioned it already. Seeing as everyone would have to be very well synced with one another, it seems like a good idea to set a tempo, and select someone to edit all the parts together. Obviously not everyone uses the same audio editing equipment, so there there would have to be someone doing the massive task. I would volunteer for it, the most simultaneous tracks I can do is 48 stereo with my protools LE 8 setup. Seems like that would be reasonable seeing as not all the people volunteering would be playing at the same time. I tend to be extremely good with editing things together, so I would love to try doing it.

^ everything except the solo section (which i will pick a static tempo for when the time comes - still planning it all!) will be recorded along with the CD version, so it will be all consistently tempoed. once we know how many people are in for solos etc, ill know how many bars the solo section goes for, and then how many bars each bassist/drummer should make the backing track. as for mixing, Johnny.Swift has already stepped up to the desk, so to speak, but you might be able to work out something with him to share the workload if he needs help etc at the moment, i just want anyone interested to post their instrument, and whether they will contribute a solo.

I for one could do that real easy if CD gets complicated somehow that is itll be clicktrack for the solo section for sure, especially for the drummers/bassists who'd be making the backing track for others to solo over. im just thinking if people recorded their bassline/guitar part/etc over the original CD, they'd be keeping the exact same energy and feel as the CD.so in blending 50 peoples' different takes together it would make more sense and feel more unified i think

I would love to contribute to this! I'm a guitarist, a vocalist, a [wannabe] keyboardist, and an iPhonist =D. This song is well within my range to sing and I could even provide some back-up vocals as well. I've learned the whole song on the guitar in pieces throughout the years, so tracking the whole song shouldn't be too much of an issue. I'm not a shredder on the keyboards, but I could contribute some of the pads and strings. I can also contribute a guitar, bebot, and perhaps even a flute solo for the extended break. I have some decent audio and video recording equipment, so I can churn out some quality recordings from my home. This sounds like a whole lot of fun! The hard part is going to be finding the time to track my parts :p

If there's any room for another drummer, I could possibly play a part, lol. Though I only have a crappy camera to record with, so sound quality is very poor. Either way this sounds like it'll be really awesome.

I think we're going to need a nice time chart to keep track of everyone's section And also I think the BC&SL tour metropolis w/ jam is about 15 minutes long, is that right ?
