Hopefully I'll be able to record sometime this week since it's spring break, however I'm going to be spending alot of time away from the house doing things with friends and family, but hopefully I can find some time to practice and record those parts.

Woo hoo! Finished recording my guitar parts; took longer than expected, though! There was a little too much going on in the house today to lay down my vox, but those won't take nearly as long to do. Here's a little preview =D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWapQRoFDsA

crazyfatkid if in need of inspiration, watch one of the compliation videos of JLB screaming on youtube unless that will just crush you completely Listening to Muse crushes me when it comes to singing and I feel I can match his voice perfectly. Then when I record something and listen to it, I sound like I'm singing with a plugged nose. I can hit these notes but cannot accept the results of my hitting them. Blah! Maybe I'm being overly critical of myself though. I will give it one more whirl. Regardless it's still going to sound like I'm plugged up. edit: relistening to it again. Oh God. Permanently delete this crap from my computer. *click*.

lol... I think a problem here is a lack of proper breathing. When I breathe right everything comes up Milhouse. When I just belt and sing, everything comes up roadkill. Then there is Metropolis where everything is belt and sing. Yeah... my biggest question is, how does he do it?

van Furlay weezul my parts: https://www.yousendit.com/download/bFFQS3dzQ1BwM214dnc9PQ looking forward to hearing it completed! Wow, Weezul... Piano player and guitarist over here. Your playing's DEAD ON! I loved it. Watched it a few times, because I liked listening to it so much... Time and time again I saw and read your posts and I know, because of this that you are a producer, but I didn't know that you are such an awesome bass player... Awesome... If everyone's part for this thing will be that good the song will be killer... sorry, forgot to say thanks for this. It means a lot to me because for the past year, all I've concentrated on is playing in the pocket. I learnt all my harmony/melody/physical abilities over the past few years, but I've got very very anal about note time and length recently, and it really does make a huge difference. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gxtzz19sXPg thanks once more

You are welcome. Checked out the link as well. Nice. And so is Billie Jean. Let's face it: It's not challenging to play those notes, but the groove of your playing there is very cool...

Monk lol... I think a problem here is a lack of proper breathing. Muse's singer has that problem too. Either that or he's doing those gasps on purpose, which, IMO, is just stupid.

For some people that's an effect they want. JLB will sometimes throw in his breathing on a song, usually where the voice is more predominate and carries the song itself. Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode does this a LOT with his voice. I think when it comes to the performer and the song itself it can work but you shouldn't over use it. I would think though that singers over the years would fix their breathing issues especially during live performances where breathing become a matter of making it two hours or passing out on stage.

I would think though that singers over the years would fix their breathing issues especially during live performances where breathing become a matter of making it two hours or passing out on stage. Precisely. Probably the most important thing I've learned since I've began taking singing seriously is that proper breathing technique can make or break you. A good breath does not simply help you hold a note for longer, it provides your body the support it needs to sing properly. A good breath should be silent, feel like the first part of a yawn, and cause your belly to stick out. If you don't support the note from your diaphragm, you'll end up supporting it from the throat, and that'll wear out your voice mighty fast! But it's one of those things that takes time and practice to get down. I still struggle with it whilst performing...it's made even more difficult because I have so many other things to concentrate on while I'm singing (playing guitar, switching patches, playing keyboard, switching between instruments, etc.). It's not something most people can develop overnight :)

crazyfatkid Monk If I can scrounge up a microphone around here I "may" be able to record some vocals. I actually have been practicing this song and I am improving on it. There are just two things about the song I am having a LOT of trouble with. For some stupid reason I cannot stay in key when I sing "to this mind". Always flat. Pisses me off to no end. And "I'm asleep yet I'm so afraid" is so off-key I end up laughing at myself for butchering it so bad. Unless people have already claimed it and unless there is some deadline, i might, just might have an mp3 demo to upload. We shall see. Don't write anything in stone for me. I am actually pretty close though. I am able to hit the high notes even if it's very much a head voice and at times it is definitely "strained". Johnny.Swift may be able to (auto)tune your voice a bit i think ;) keep that in mind Nah I don't have the gear to do that... Should I acquire it?

Pitch correction software or hardware is almost essential for studios these days. But in my experience Celemony's Melodyne is the best software on the market for pitch correction. http://www.celemony.com/cms/

I'm going to conceed to defeat when it comes to trying to match the vocals as they are written. I just cannot belt out an A5 with any satisfaction. The only way I'm going to be able to submit anything on this is if I push the vocals down at least one half octave, preferably a whole octave. I may not be able to hit an A5 with conviction but I know I can hit an A4 no problem. It's funny when it came to vocal ranges I looked up a few key people. Did you know JLB and Geoff Tate have both the same vocal high end at A5? I think even in their primes they still matched each other since A5 seems low for songs like Queen of the Ryche or JLB on Learning to Live. And Matthew Bellamy can hit A5 but only in falsetto. Normally he's A4.
