Iron Maiden & Dream Theater - North American Summer Tour!! (Updated 5/12/10)

Anyone know if MP walks around after or before a show? It's gonna be my first DT show (July 17th) and i really would like to see if i could meet him haha if anyone could help its greatly appreciated !

Well MP you probably won't read this because you're too busy in rehearsals and prepping for the road, but I just want to wish you success on the tour. I hope you and the band are all healthy and at the top of your game and that your issues are minimal...no sound gremlins that can't be
beaten. It's going to be a long summer and fall, sleeping in beds that are not home, away from family and friends, and I wish you continued
inner stength and stamina and I hope you have a killer tour season!

So I'm going to the US to visit family, just so happen to be in Pittsburgh when the tour is coming. Picked up $20 lawn tickets, so do't expect to see anything haha. Anyone else going to the Pitt show?

Wonder if MP had to scale back the kit so they could get it off the stage faster, or maybe
the whole thing will be on a riser with wheels like at the Modern Drummer festival.

Can't wait to see tonights setlist!

I'd let you know, but I doubt I'll be the first to a computer after the show. :p  I'm so excited!  Scored PIT tickets for this one and it's supposed to rain!  So this will be one for the ages!  Any other DFW peeps have after-show plans?

Well, looks like I am missing this: my flight to Ankara leaves on the day of the show. Oh well.

Hmm... Someone on Maiden's forums said they opened with "Automatic Chaos" lol.
I **really** hope what you posted is right!

Maiden's 4 songs in so far and I love all 4 songs so far.

I'd read in twitter people complaining that labrie said "hello houston" and they are in dallas :S... don't know if its true tho.

How big of a production does DT get? Just like lights and a backdrop?

Ok, I was there in Dallas.  Yes, JLB said hello Houston, DOH! And they did NOT play A Nightmare To Remember, they played Constant Motion, the rest of the list is right though. 
As I Am is a KILLER opener!!!! 

The guys performed great, it was much to short for my first time seeing DT though. :(

PANIC ATTACK when Jordan Broke out the Keytar, and did the solo with JP, Myung and Portnoy were spot on all night and Yes James said Housto...Dallas and looked back at Mike but other than that he sounded great and the band was pretty much Flawless

I have known a couple crazed IM fans in my time, and I would surmise they may possibly embrace slightly more the 8:22 track versus the 7:22 track from the 8th.
 
For my personal taste, 7:22 has so many notes to absorb for many IM fans.  I could see some IM fan's brains melting down.  Could see them standing there a little stunned/stunted.  Just thinking out loud..

And it wasn't a full Kit at least not how I remember I full MP kit at least one side missing no?

Man, I am so psyched.  Two of my most favoritest bands playing together?  I'm ready to crap my pants in excitement.  I've never seen Dream Theater and the only time I saw Maiden was in 1998 with Blaze Bailey so I've never seen the line-up. 

Now James LaBrie has to say Hello Dallas in Houston to balance the karmic scales.  Oh, how we'll all laaaauuuuggghhhh!!!!!!

Fantastic set and interesting seeing DT open for another band. When LaBrie uttered the "Houston" comment, we laughed uncontrollably (the guys next to me had driven to Dallas from Houston, and we were discussing the Houston Images & Words concert seconds before LaBrie made the Houston faux pas. But he quickly corrected things by saying "Dallas.") As for last night's set, it was tight, heavy and surely turned many IM fans onto DT.

I would agree.  Very strong.  Looking at the setlist, and seeing It there, I was thinking of flies and flypaper, and didn't see that particular track for IM's fans sticking with their fans for some reason (perhaps because of its modern sound), in a manner of speaking.

Good setlist, although it seems to be quite dominant on 'heavy' DT. I feel either AROP or CM could be dropped for 1 'older' song (Caught In A Web? 6:00? Afterlife? A Fortune In Lies? etc).

Hey, it's a ''heavy metal'' audience... it's logical that MP chooses a more heavy set for this IM tour.
This has just begun... we'll wait and see what surprises they have in store for us.
Caught In A Web & 6:00 are excelent choices... but it would kick so much more ass if they start with The Glass Prison!!!

... I think every IM fan who haven't seen DT live yet will be in total shock!!!!

I'm pretty sure this is the set for the whole tour, no changes IIRC.

It's really cool that DT have such a wide range of genres within their music that they can pretty much design their setlist around whoever they're supporting!

Watching that Video, even the quality is bad, James has really brought it on!  He's singing so well in tune!!!!!

I'm not an Iron Maiden fan, so bear that in mind, but if I didn't know DT and that's the setlist I got, I probably wouldn't be interested in checking them out further.  Some good songs in there, don't get me wrong, but...  I dunno.  When I look at that set it just seems a bit too guitar-heavy for my liking.

But, as I say, I'm not a Maiden fan, and that probably is a good set considering who they're opening for.
