Jesus H. Christ.  This is the best concert ticket I've ever had a chance to see.

I WILL BE THERE

I'm thinking I'll be at that very special MSG show.

DT before IM eh?

Dream Theater will steal the show for many in attendance.

Very cool. I regret not going to see the Somewhere Back In Time Tour, but now get to finally see Iron Maiden. No doubt about this one!

Wow.

Never had the chance to see Maiden before.  And they're coming to DC!  I'm there.

Hey, out of curiosity, is that third guitarist not playing with Maiden any more?  I hope not, because he was superfluous anyways.  I like the old lineup.

Just my luck! I'm in america all of April and leave in May! I miss this monumental tour! Anyway, great news for DT. Also, the MSG gig is on JP's birthday! Cool!

Mike mentioned that there are only 3 bands they would consider opening for at this stage of their career. Maiden and Rush are obviously two of them. Who's the third?

My favourite metal bands of all times... Too bad I won't see it. Well... I've attended both Maiden and Theater gigs already, but not at the same time...

... wait a minute. Didn't DT already play in MSG?

Wasn't this recorded in Madison? If so, why do JP and MP say that this would be their first time?

Wonderful! Time for a celebration... Cheese for everyone! Wait, scratch that. Cheese for no one. That can be just as much of a celebration, if you don't like cheese, true? You've run a maze like a good little rat. But no cheese for you yet. Well, maybe a little.

HOLY SHIT!  I am going to beg to be let go to the DC concert on July 20th!

Does anyone know if there is a minimum age requirement for the DC venue?

The "Washington DC" venue is actually 30 miles outside of DC in Bristow VA. It used to be called Nissan Pavilion, but it is now called Jiffy Lube Live. No age restrictions...

I think the big 'understory' of this tour will be how many DT fans show up at some of these
gigs. I suspect there will be 50/50 at some and at the Garden I wouldn't be surprised if
the DT fanatics outnumber the Maiden fanatics.

^I think it's just gonna be a matter of which fans get their tickets first, considering Maiden easily sellout when they're essentially the only act.

No Boston area dates.  That sucks.  Too expensive to go to NYC just for a concert.

Yeah, big WTF there.....  I'm hoping more dates in the works......

Last time Maiden toured the states they came to the Comcast Center in Mansfield.  That was great, because I live less than a half mile from that venue.

There seems to have been a bit of confusion over a few of the dates that were listed. We have removed them until things get sorted out.

May I ask how long the setlist will be for DT at MSG?

I may need to cost/benefit the trip, as I don't plan on staying for Iron Maiden.  Just personal taste.

Add some midgets and pyrotechnics if the set is less than an hour to draw me in.

Didn't they play for an hour and a half with Yes?  I hope this is the case for Maiden.  I really hope I can go!!

I think it was 50 minutes.

My boots tell me their set was about 65 minutes on that tour.

Yeah it would be cool for a DVD, if they weren't an opener. Perhaps Iron Maiden will make a DVD of the entire show in their own right? Or it could be an official bootleg or something.

GREAT news anyway!

I'll definitely hit the Toronto show!! Already booked the day off work :D

Fingers crossed the MP & the boys pull out a cover (like with "Machine Messiah" for Yes) to win over some of the Maiden fans. I'm thinking "Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)"! Would be very cool.

Transatlantic in April, DT/Maiden in July... nice!!

Well, for most of the US and Canadian dates, DT will only be able to gross about 10% of what Maiden can. However, in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, LA, Chicago & NYC (and maybe a few others), DT will be able to gross up to 15% of what Maiden can draw...

how come the montreal date isn't listed here? It's on the Iron Maiden website.

JULY
Wed 07  Montreal, QC - Bell Centre

And now I'm hearing stuff about them coming to quebec city for the Festival D'été on july 9th.

Well, since the South got screwed once again, looks like I'll be flying from Jacksonville, FL to the MSG show.  Never been to NYC before so I'll likely make a weekend of it.  Figured if I gotta travel 1000-miles to see this show, might as well go to the one that means the most.  :)

Is it just me or is MSG missing from the list of shows on LiveNation's page?

I'm not thrilled that it's on a Monday night, but that won't stop me from going.

And yes, Stephanie, if at all possible, you ticket is on me and we'll go and soak up the awesomeness together :-)

I guess the other two bands are Metallica and Rush =)

That's what I was thinking.  Couldn't imagine it being anyone else.

Big arena's and ampitheaters.  Madison Square Garden is often referred to as the worlds most famous arena, so you can see why this is such an honor and a dream come true for the band.

One thing I'm wondering... Iron Maiden says they will be releasing their new album late in the summer.  So I wonder if they will be playing a lot off of it, being that it looks as though the album might not even be released when they tour.  I was lucky enough to see them twice during the Somewhere Back in Time tour and it was definitely one of the best concert experiences of my life, but from what they were saying back then, a lot of that stuff might not ever be played live again which makes you think they will put a lot of focus on newer stuff.

Can anyone explain this? http://www.jbboots.de/DreamTheater/FC009.htm

DT has played MSG before apparently.

awesome news. DT in TX who'd have thunk it.

thanks to DTMusicman for giving me the update.

heretofore is my thought process upon reading the press release (in true fact form):

[pro] DT in TX

[con] as an opening act

[pro] opening for Maiden!

[con] no ogling Lauren Harris

[pro] Maiden!

[con] primarliy outdoor venues (dates are in mid TX summer) owned by Clear Channel

[pro] DT/Maiden!

[con] i swore i'd never ever got to another concert @ the Verison Selma shit hole ever           again (Woodlands in H-town not much diff)

torn.

praytell Dallas peeps, what is that venue like?!?

indoors?!? if so, i might try hoof it that way instead.

back in the $$ days, i'd hit them all. ain't got that kinda $ anymore.

This is the first time I get to choose were to go..LOL

I can attend: Phoenix, Albuquerque, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio...

Right now SA seems the most feasible since its on the weekend and a couple of other friends work during the week....If I was employed I would have made it to a couple of shows...

Hopefully I can meet some of you forumers on one of the shows...Seems like zoso is going to San Antonio and I'm almost positive Wey and Debra will be there...

I'm betting an Official Bootleg release for the MSG show.

Including both bands performing "To Tame a Land" (?).

Hopefully the MSG show will be recorded for a Ytsejam
release. Would be a nice 25th anniversary marker/momento.

Yep, MP said this in many interviews... especially RUSH is one of his and the band goals to support for them someday.
I think eventually it would happen at some point.
Imagine Mike and Neal doing a drum duet... now THAT would something every progfan around the world would die to see.

Great news for you - lucky americans! Hoping for some DT festival dates in europe this summer! (Also, they have enough time until june to throw out an EP with a new epic and some live tracks.)

Johnny.Swift

Yeah it would be cool for a DVD, if they weren't an opener.

That is also my opinion. Let's face it - they'll play in front of a MAIDEN audience. A great event and a great chance for DT to reach these people - but many of them will just wait to see Maiden. I would prefer a DVD from a DT headling show (of the next tour) - from south america, because these people always freak out at concerts! And then some MSG 2010 bonus tracks... and some more bonus tracks...

2DREAM4EVER

release. Would be a nice 25th anniversary marker/momento.

Also would appreciate that!!!

This is indeed most awesome!  Payback for so many shows missing Texas I suppose!  I'll hit at least 2 of them, if not all 3!  Anyone coming to Dallas is welcome to hit me up.

Soon, ALL will know thy name!!!

It's one of those semi-covered outdoor festival types, you know the ones that recreate the incarnate noise of banshee's furiously fucking each other in a garbage can? Yeah, that kind...lol

You're more than welcome to roll here.  I may hit at least 2 of them.

Don't know for sure but I definitely do not think this would happen.  Not sure why they would even want to open for Slayer as it definitely would not be a good match IMO.

I don't know if it has been mentioned but tickets for Montreal go on sale March 13th. I'll be waiting for a confirmation of the date by the DT camp though.

Awesome news!
Really cool for MP and DT to have the honor to open for Iron Maiden!
Have fun!

Am I the only one thinking (hoping) that it may be that some (or even a lot) Iron Maiden fans WON'T appreciate DT, their music and musicianship and stuff?
Even if I think that MP will create more heavy than proggy setlists I'm not really sure, if the Maiden fans will enjoy DT.

But of course I hope that the Maiden fans WILL enjoy DT without a doubt...

If they'll enjoy bands like Trivium and Avenged Sevenfold then I'm pretty sure they'll appreciate Dream Theater.

Just hope there's some movement on stage, they'll look like statues compared to the 50+  Irons :P

Oh...

Didn't know they had those two as support acts.
But then again it doesn't mean that the Iron Maiden fans enjoyed those two bands, right?

Incorrect, I thoroughly enjoyed Trivium opening for them.
