ya know, I find this whole thing to be confusing. I'm a huge Opeth fan and all, but did they realize they were doing a song for a videogame about WAR? When the God of War folks heard this song they must have thought this was a joke. This is definately a great song, but did they leave their distortion pedals at home? I have yet to listen to the rest of the album (besides Raw Dog), but I'm sure all of the other songs were more fitting to the subject mattrer. I mean if there ever was a golden oppurtunity to get Opeth some exposure and unleash some brilliant fuckin death metal, wouldn't this have been it??? I think this was a total bonehead move on their part, with all due respect. Do you guys agree, or think I'm a fuckin a-hole?

It was strange. Crazy good acoustic playing, but there seemed to be very little structure or um...continuity to it. Well, maybe it will grow on me.

You make some good points however M Akerfeldt posted his thoughts on the song after it was done. "Song is very odd, it's good I think, or for my taste it is, but even I can understand it's very....odd! Produced and recorded it from scratch and I'm happy with the sound if I may say so myself. Fred laid down a killer acoustic solo and Per laid down an amazing twiddly tweet moog solo. It's not a very metal song, I'm saving up for that..later.....yet it's got a metal ‘mentality’, or what I remember metal used to do to me. I can feel it, even though it's not a ‘metal’ song per definition. Anyways, if you hear it I hope you like it." That part already makes me eager for the new album.

I liked it. Not as much as I like "Raw Dog", but both are great.

I like the song a lot, but how it relates to GoW, I have no idea.....

Villafan first Opeth track I have heard and liked please suggest some others in the similar vein ?? thanks Villafan Their album Damnation is an all acoustic album very similar to the track you heard. Get Ghost Reveries, Still Life, Watershed, Blackwater park and Deliverance after that. You will not regret it. If you don't like growls you will learn to love them.

Every Opeth album has one or two of these types of songs. Listen, I couldn't stand Opeth at all, but if your on this forum, you obviously have an appreciation for good music and musicianship. Give Ghost Reveries 4 or 5 spins and I'm confident that you'll be at least interested in hearing more - it's THAT good!

There's stuff with that vibe at least on Watershed. Give it 5 to 10 spins. It's really worth it, since it's is just an awesome album. You could give Ghost Reveries and Blackwater Park a try next after checking out Watershed, if you want to...
