I'd like to say again how cool it is for MP to do this. The point about lacing shoes instead of stepping in is real cool. I think The Rev is looking down and is just as giddy as a kid walking into a toy store from watching MP do the drums for him. again, kudos

Wow, this is definitely some cool news. MP is the man for doing this and he couldn't pay a better tribute to the Rev, one of his fans. I've been a fan of A7X for a while now and was pretty shocked when Jimmy passed. Mike is one hell of a fill-in. I will def be looking forward to this release; it adds a whole new level of excitement.

I am literally speechless. I can't think of anything to say that would express the complete awesomeness of this venture. Thanks to Avenged Sevenfold for not backing down under the weight of their terrible loss. Thanks to Mike Portnoy for being the honorable man that he is and accepting the offer. This will be epic.
My name is DOOM , and I approve this message.

PetFish I've never heard Avenged Sevenfold. Can someone recommend me a place to start with them? Over the years they have changed quite a large amount. SO if you like the hardcore kind of music then Waking the Fallen is you best bet, then sounding of the 7th trumpet after that. And their latest album which is self-titled, is a whole 'nother ballgame, with a lot more musicality and kind of proggy ideas. and City of Evil is the first album after the singers throat injury which is decent but never really hooked me.

This is just so awesome. Mr. Portnoy, I raise my glass of Mountain Dew Green Amp and toast you for such a heroic undertaking with this tribute of all tributes. I am psyched as all hell to hear this record, best of luck to you and the members of A7X.
MP: "...the type of person that can name the fill-in drummer when Ringo had tonsilitis..." Me: "JIMMY NICOL!" MP: "OH MAN!" Neal Morse: "Whoa...!" (from YMC DVD/CD 2011)

Whoa, I was crushed when i heard of the rev's passing; the thought that A7X could just... Vanish with his passing? But I kept reading the news on them and eventually had gotten this glimmer of hope that they would continue on without there brother. And then to find out Mr. MP is Lacing up Jimmy's shoes for this album? All that came to me was amazement and joy. 100% admiration for A7x, and MP. Thanks :D

But, if MP's playing will be on their next album then maybe I should start with their most recent if that's what their sound will most likely be like. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the info. :)

I meant hardcore as like the melodic chorus vocals and then like the "Screaming" verses? but not like super annoying scream which is what i liked. but given your example i would DEFINITELY look into their self-titled album. many great songs like "A Little Piece of Heaven," "Gunslinger," among many others. Just checked their myspace and i feel none of the songs they have up are prime examples. Try them out www.myspace.com/avengedsevenfold . Trashed and Scattered is my favorite song off City of Evil album. Cool instrumentation.

I guess even the blackest of black clouds can have a silver lining. (coincidence??) A7X is a hugely popular and talented band. They could have asked anyone in the world to do this but they chose MP. What an honor. That phone call must have been quite a surprise. Life is strange.

You know, I've always looked up to Mike as a drummer. He's my biggest and most obvious influence because I grew up listening to the same drummers as he. Ringo, Keith Moon, so forth. But I've come on this forum off and on for a couple of years and I've come to admire Mike as a person. It's no wonder Mike's one of the most respected people in the music industry not just by fans, but by peers as well. God bless, Mike.

Woow. This is amazinng news. I got into drumming because of the Rev, which lead me in to MP and Dream Theater. The death of the Rev is still surreal. But this is good news. This is the best that could happen. R.I.P The Rev. MP, you're freakkkinng awesomee Respect.

Nathan Explosion Ladies and Gentlemen of MP.com, No other musician or drummer for that matter would do something like this. This is what makes MP one of the most classiest, genuine and fantastic individuals in this (and any other) parallel universe. While MP is indeed a great guy and I am excited to hear about him recording with the band, your assertion that NO other musician would do this is completely unfounded.

To be honest I've never been an avenged seven fold fan. The vocals were a real turn of for me along with the pop style. I will definitely check out the new album though. At the very least to hear how MP fits into that style of music. Mr. P, you've proven to me, yet again, why you are one of the most incredible people in the music world. Music has no walls, and if I ever want to be a good musician, i need to do a little renovating.
