Oh I just saw this on Twitter... I'm so sorry for your loss Mike, it truly saddens me when such a great friend and companion as Bongo is gone, but I hope that all the good memories brings a smile in your face. My thoughts are with the Portnoy Family.

What can you say about animal companions? No matter what's going on in the world they have the ability to just bring us back from whatever is distracting us and, for a moment at least, forget about everything. They don't criticisize or judge and are happy with food, water, and love. What a great way to live life.
Bongo had a better life than many animals because of the family she was with who loved her and that's all any companion can ever hope for.

So sorry for you MP, Marlene and Kids. As I sadly read this my old boxer Boo just came up and licked me. She is getting up there in years and who knows how much longer she'll be with us, but I cherish every moment she's given us. Take small comfort in the fact that your best friend is no longer in pain. So sorry to hear this Mike.  It must be so hard to lose something that's been part of your life for that long. If you choose to get another puppy later on down the track, I know it'll be the most cared for dog in the world. Sorry again Mike.

Sorry mike! It sucks to lose a pet. I knew when they announced she had cancer-it was just a matter of time. Its usually way too progressed for them to do anything about it. She lived 14 years, thats a nice long life for a dog.

Mike, I'm really sorry to hear of your loss. I can only imagine how sad your family feels right now. I fear we may go through something similar. We have a cat (that we saved from the SPCA) back in '93 when my wife and I were married and moved in together. 17yrs is a long time for a cat. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Sad to hear this. But on the positive side, any pet that lives 14 years alongside anyone who cares and tends for him/her is a lucky pet, IMO. I was adamant to have another dog in my life after I had one die some years ago and then last year I got my Schnauzer Bridget. Now I can't imagine my life without her. So, I'm glad to know that Bongo belonged to the few it seems that led good, loving lives. RIP
