Mike, I am really sorry that Bongo had to go through this, we know he is not in pain anymore. We all know how much Bongo was loved, or at least those of us who are animal lovers can tell he was cherished. You have opened up your life to us, allowing us to meet your family, bringing us into your home (during the 'Cribs' section of your dvd), made many appearances at meet and greets and have gone above and beyond in providing us with drum dvds, extra cds at Ytsejam and have been nothing but gratious and professional when meeting us. You are loved by all of your fans and hope your heart heals soon.
 
PS - Bongo is just a beautiful dog. I'm not sure if he is a 'he' or a 'she'. Can't go by the name since his/her master was a drummer.

Always sucks when you lose a pet. RIP Bongo. Although, 14 years is a pretty long life, especially for a dog.

Losing a family pet is is just as bad as losing a family member as the pet is a family member. I have 3 cats and i dread the day when they are no longer with us. I am sure there are many great memories to look back on for you Mike. So just Treasure those when ya feel yourself missing him.

My wife of ten years has seen me cry twice, once when my Dad passed away and once when my dog passed away. I know how it feels.....I'm sorry.

So sorry to hear that. I know how it feels because we lost our first dog, a german shepherd in november 2008. He was also born in 1996. I even made a powerpoint show in memory of him and shared it with my family. It's still hard to watch it without shedding a tear.

Two dachshunds still keep us busy, especially the lil' one cos he's not even a year old.


Time will heal the pain and it's always nice to think back and remember the good times spent together.

I'm so so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is. I was so happy to hear she had been doing better. I couldn't help but hug my dog and cry when I saw this post. The pictures of Bongo are beautiful. It looks like she had a really great life. Best wishes to you and your family.

And to the rest of the Portnoy clan, Mike especially, my sincerest condolences to you all. For a very long time, my best friends in all of existence were those few animals who were gracious enough to allow me to be part of their world and who allowed me to take part in their love for the time that they were with me. I use that language deliberately; I don't consider myself to be above those animals who were gracious enough to allow me into their lives for the brief time that I was allowed to share with them. They were all, in their way, equally wonderful, and I am honored to have been their person, as, undoubtedly, you are. And as much as I'm not necessarily tied to a particular belief or faith, there is one thing that I can say with little fear of contradiction; as long as there is at least one person who remembers you, then you are truly immortal. Hold that love in your heart, and Bongo will always be with you.

Sorry to hear about Bongo's passing.  My one and only dog was almost 14 years old as well when I had to put him to sleep (nearly 11 years ago to the day in fact).   It's never easy.  They certainly become a big part of the family.

She lives now in our memories, and wherever she may be now, I hope her spirit is always at rest.

I feel for you, Mike.  Saying goodbye is a very tough price to pay, even balanced against years of joy and companionship.

It is amazing to me that we become as attached to dogs as we do to the people in our lives, but I suppose that's what makes dogs so great...they bring out the very best in us.

My 2 year old King Charles Cavalier (Landon) is me and my wife's life, and I can tell by how you talk about Bongo that you had that same kind of connection. Oddly enough we call our dog Moongie.

I have lost a few pets in my life and the pain is something that is hard to describe, I completely feel for you man and as you already know I am sure, and said in this thread a bunch, is that the good memories last forever and the qualities that your specific dog had continue to impact your life as if it was still here.

It is such a inner/personal feeling of loss when it is your pet, it hits you so hard. I Could cry everytime I look at your pictures you posted if I wanted to.

I haven't been here for a couple of weeks, so my belated condolences to MP and family. I've lost 2 dogs myself in the past 6 months, one in September and one on Super Bowl Sunday, so I know how it goes.

Our sincerest condolences to your loss. Unfortunately my wife and I know exactly how you feel. Our dog, Ruby Tuesday, died on January 27. I needed to post this, because we were surprised by the pictures of Bongo, especially the closeups. In some she looked almost exactly like our Ruby. Maybe this (bad) picture explains it better.



We have a picture of her as a puppy that looks almost exactly like the third picture of Bongo you posted.
We miss our Ruby. February 20, would have been her 12th Birthday.

So again, our sincererest condolences to you and your family.
