    So to recap for me, 2009 = Fail but not Epic fail I guess. I mean I did good, lasted longer than before but still put back on all the weight so meh...

    But I'm getting back on it again and the goal is to make this my new lifestyle and not drop off the wagon so to speak...

    Good luck all and don't let up!!! I did hit the gym today and I've eaten great today! I also ordered the P90X, I'm going to give that a shot as well. I've read all things positive and some negative and I decided screw what everyone says/thinks, *I* am going for it!

    Here's to a healthier 2010 all!!!

      Well, I've not been a big fan of going to the gym, but I've been running for the past two years, I've not been very persintent at it, but i guess i'm doing fine. I really love running, so I hope this year I can do better!!!

          Well, I bought a rotary stepper 2 weeks ago, and I started doing some, my goal is to keep going throughout the year, and hopefully lose some weight or outfit size (I'm not yet fat, but I'm not healthy either... and I definitely don't want to get things worse)

            It it time.

            I turn 39 in 6 weeks and if I want to be "Fit by Forty" then I better get it in gear.

            I am 5' 10", 275 pounds (I don't look quite that heavy, but my poor joints don't care how I look) and I don't exercise.  But here is the plan:

            My loverly wife got me full seasons of babylon 5 and Farscape for X-mas, plus a few other DVDs, (3 seasons of Dr. Who!) plus we already had the first four or five seasons of 24 that we haven't watched, plus a crap-ton of other DVD's that she watches when she works out...so I've got plenty of episodic TV to keep me company on the eliptical.  And we have some weight gear , too - a bench, basic bars & weights, etc.  I've got everything I need, physically.

            I need to lower my overall caloric intake, alter my diet, and make time to exercise.  I'll have to do it at night after I put my kid to bed, which is a rotten time to jack up the heart rate, but it needs to be done.  I have to have the mental fortitude to make this happen, and thats the hard part.

            So, no STALKER, Shadow of Chernobyl tonight until after the credits roll on Farscape.  And no midnight chocolate raids either.  Thank God all the Christmas cookies are gone.

            I can't think of anyting funny right now.

              Thanks for starting this again, Aredore.  Reading the 2009 thread was good motivation for me.  I've been away from the gym for the past 4 weeks due to a minor procedure on my foot, but i'll be ok to return in another week or 2, and i'm actually looking forward to it.  I don't think i've put on any additional weight since i stopped going, but i like how i feel when i go.  I'm sure i will immediately recant that statement once i start going again.

                  This is my ultimate goal for 2010. I'll be 20 in 4 months and I'm not overweight by a long shot or anything like that.. I just want to feel better overall. My goal is to eat healthier (lasted 4 days so far ), to gain some mass/muscle (I'm a TWIG!!) and to overall treat my body like it's not 15 anymore, hence not eating only junk. I'm determined to achieve this goal and we'll see where it takes me.

                  So for the first time I won't ignore this thread, I'll visit it quite often.

                    I am also trying to make healthy living my permanent lifestyle. I want to naturally be willing to eat right and exercise. I'm not terribly out of shape but I could definitely stand to lose a few pounds of fat and gain some muscle. Don't want to be ripped or anything... just fit.

                    I've started the year by cutting out soft drinks and snacks and eating smaller portions at meals. Healthier food too. I've also started doing 20 push-ups and 20 sit-ups every day as minimum exercise. Gym routine starting again soon and walking. 


                    I'm getting married in early July so I want to look fine in a nice fitted suit.

                        Damn, I feel like a fat slob. I've been wanting to get in shape now for the past 2 years and yet I do nothing about it. For a while I was going to the gym, but I just don't have the money for it now.

                        I also just don't have the motivation that I need to achieve the weightloss desired. I just love food way too much to give it up!!

                        I weigh 226 and I want to get back down to 170. I'm 5'11".

                            gonna have to start contributing to this thread a lot more, i dropped off in the old thread towards the end of 09, so must step it up. 

                            im down to 191lbs now, need to lose another 20, maybe more im thinking in next 6 months, shouldnt be too bad. its actually more get rid of the belly flab, and putting on muscle.

                              My goal this year is to get into decent shape so I can be a little bit more competitive at Hapkido and kickboxing.  I'm pretty thin so weight is not an issue, but strength and stamina are.  I'm back at the gym getting the feel of things there again and I guess we will have to see how it goes, given uni and work commitments.

                                3 years ago I weighed 217lbs, and I'm 5'-6" on a good day. I reached the point where I was just tired of being out of shape and with two little kids I wanted to do everything I could to be healthy not only as an influence for them but also so I would be able to enjoy them for as long as I could in my life. Anyway, I began to run a little at a time, when I watched TV at night during the commercials I would do 20 push ups, 20 sits ups (so an hour program I could knock out 100 of each). I watched what I ate and the time of day I was eating it, no soda, a ton of water each day. I joined a gym and long story short I have maintained an exercise regiment for 3 years, working out/exercising at least 3x a week but mostly 4 times (the majority after 8 at night so I can fulfill my fatherly/husbandry duties) and I got down to 151 lbs. My wife and friends discouraged my to lose any more saying I looked very thin and here the last year or so I added some weight training and have held steady between 160-165 lbs. I just wanted to chime in on the thread being that it is in its infancy and encourage those of you who are looking to do something and make a change. It is completely worth it and if you put the effort into it you will feel great when you start noticing the rewards. Best advice I have is not to try to much to fast, start off at a good managable pace and just make it a habit. What you eat is a big part of it so try and find a system that you can maintain.                                   I'm 19. I'm in no way overweight, more like underweight (5'6" and 125 lb).

                                  But I have some bad habits and need to get out more and get into shape.

                                  Cut down on coffee, but not completely, I just don't need several cups/day.
                                  Cut down on alcohol. It's getting tiresome already.
                                  Cut down on junk food. Just because it's not good for me.

                                  As soon as the temperature gets a little warmer I've promised myself to get out on more walks and to start running a bit. - 20° (5 F) is not my ideal weather for running and it's been like this for like a month and it will continue for a week or two.

                                  Oh, well, let's see if I still remember this promise when it gets a little warmer.

                                    If anyone has a Planet Fitness near them, its a great place. I pay 10 bucks a month and it cost 1 dollar to join. Can't go wrong there!

                                        I was wondering whether or not you would create the 2010 version of this thread. Good idea, man!

                                        I'm pretty much sitting in front of a computer for 9 straight hours everyday, which is really bad.

                                        I have put on some weight in the past 2 years or so. Right now I'm 6'4'' and 282 pounds.

                                        My goal is to be under 220. For that to happen, I gotta burn a lot of fat and try to keep as much lean mass as I can.

                                        I promised my cousin I'm going to run a marathon with him this year, so I really have to change all this.

                                        I've been working hard and watching my caloric intake for about a month now. In a nutshell, I've been lifting weights and doing cardio (HIIT) 6 times a week. I really love exercising, it is awesome to relieve the daily stress.

                                        My only weakness is the calories counting, which I started to watch more closely by using FitDay. It turns out that I was underestimating my caloric intake most of the time, big time.

                                        Well, I hope we all reach our goals.

                                          Count me in for this year!  I'm not looking to loose weight, but to get stronger and add muscle tone.  

                                          I'm 23, 6ft tall and about 170 lbs.  Just need more strength.  I've started push-ups/sit-ups over the past few days, waiting to go back to college next week and get to use the nice student gym.

                                            I've posted about this before, but here goes again.  Four years ago I went from 310 to 190 in 4 1/2 months.  I've gained about 20 back, but in general I've kept it off, eat pretty good and exercise routinely.  I've changed my life style, broke the bad habits, but I still have some work to do.  At the age of 50 with five kids to support, sometimes it's hard, but there's no turning back now.
                                             
                                            It's hard to make recommendations, because everybody's experiences are unique.  But.....find something that works for you and stay with it until it becomes a habit, almost an obsession.  For me, it's long hard walks, push ups and sit ups.  I don't need a gym, just a street and a floor.  I put on my sweats and I'm out the door. (Hey Billy, why don't you join me out on the Chisolm trail someday?  It'll be a good workout.) 
                                             
                                            On the diet.  Just about the hardest thing in the world to get started.  But once you start to diet, and you get past the initial pain of being hungry more than you'd like, get ready to feel better than you ever have.  At least that has been my experience.
                                             
                                            And the psychological and emotional rewards of doing something so good for yourself are equally as strong.
                                             
                                            At the end of the day, it's all in the head.  If you are heavy and want to lose weight, suck it up, find a diet and and an exercise routine that you think will work for you and START.  Stick with it for at least several weeks, tweak as necessary, and you're on your way.

                                              I got in shape between Sept 2008 and last summer...  I got back out of shape from then till now so it's time to get back into it.  Once I get motivated I really stick with it so hopefully that will be the case this time too.

                                                  Did a little work out today.  I few sets each of push-ups, sit-ups, and bicep curls with some small 12lb weights I found in the house.  Then stretched out and practiced some of my basic martial arts I've been neglecting.  After that I meditated to clear the mind and bring the body back to rest for about 10 minutes.

                                                  I feel pretty darn good right now.  :)  Off to the shower.

                                                        Well I'm about 20 pounds overweight, and I have high blood pressure, so I've started running at night.  It's exciting to see my progress, and it'll be even more exciting when I look good in fitted t-shirts again.  I've been freezing my butt off the past few nights though--I'm in Texas and we think we're dying if the temp gets below 40 degrees.

                                                          I think winter gets everyone out of their workout and diet plans. The cold, the snow, and the holidays based around eating far too much food get everyone off their horse faster we'd like to admit. I know I had lost 15 pounds from may to november while adding some nice muscle to my arms, but last month put a dent in that progress. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things once again this month and continue improving on the physical disaster that was my college weight and physical fitness.

                                                              Well I also failed this year but like many of you, I'd like to try and achieve my goal this year. I know exactly how to execute it, it's just to actually put it in practice. Yesterday I walked a lot, did some pushups and situps, and drummed on some Rock Band (hey Expert is tough for a dude who's never played drums) It gets me sweating!

                                                              Good luck to all, yesterday morning I weighed a little over 226, I'd like to get to about 215 by Valentine's day.

                                                                2009 was OK.

                                                                I worked out more, slimmed down (not that I really needed it), put on a little tone but still ate horribly.  Hopefully now that I've moved out on my own, I'll start cooking meals and making sandwiches instead of eating Subway every day.

                                                                  i just found out that the youth housing service which i live under will pay for a gym membership :) my plan was to get a job and THEN be able to pay for a gym membership so now i can start going sooner. i am also trying to healthalize my eating habits too so i will keep ye posted when i start gymming

                                                                    My loverly wife got me full seasons of babylon 5 and Farscape for X-mas, plus a few other DVDs, (3 seasons of Dr. Who!) plus we already had the first four or five seasons of 24 that we haven't watched, plus a crap-ton of other DVD's that she watches when she works out...so I've got plenty of episodic TV to keep me company on the eliptical.  And we have some weight gear , too - a bench, basic bars & weights, etc.  I've got everything I need, physically.

                                                                     
                                                                    Listen up: If you are watching TV while you're 'working out', then you are using your time inefficiently and you will not get the results you are hoping for.  To exercise properly you need to bring some intensity, and I don't know anyone who can bring that sort of intensity while watching TV. 
                                                                     
                                                                    Read up on the citric acid cycle a.k.a. the Krebs cycle.  Try to memorize as much of it as you can.  Then while you're working out, try to recall the cycle.  More importantly, bask in the warmth of the cycle as it fuels your body.  This will give your mind the distraction you seem to feel is necessary.

                                                                        EPIC WIN for 2009 as I lost 28 pounds

                                                                        The target for 2010 is 28 pounds by the end of the year, with an intermediate target of 14 pounds by 21st May

                                                                        I will also average 5 gym sessions a week

                                                                        Today's session was all weights, and so far, the shoulder is playing ball

                                                                          Listen up yourself.  The very Krebs cycle you mention states that to burn fat, the exercise level should be lower and well oxygenated.  Thus, I shouldn't be falling-down exhausted and gasping for air.  I'm in this to lose weight mainly, so an hour on the eliptical while watching TV is a perfectly useful activity.  If I were trying to build muscle mass then I would agree; a greater level of intensity would be appropriate.

                                                                            Going back to the rock climbing gym for my weights and rejoining a soccer leauge (I hope) for cardio. "To get in shape" isn't a enough of a  motivation tfor me to work out, I need to feel like I'm actually doing something.

                                                                                Seriously, 2010 is the year of change for me.  I'm currently separated from my wife and two kids pending a divorce.  I'm unemployed and living with my parents.  I've spent the last month doing a personal inventory and have committed myself to changing just about every aspect of my life.
                                                                                 
                                                                                So, to start, I'm 40 years old, 5'9" and weigh 190.  Since I've started this journey right before Thanksgiving, I've lost 5 lbs.  That's through the holidays, so I'm pretty pleased with that.
                                                                                 
                                                                                I don't have much equipment at my disposal, and don't have the funds to join a gym, but I've been able to accomplish much with just dumbbells, an exercise ball, and determination.
                                                                                 
                                                                                Goals for the year include, obviously, getting a good job, being able to afford and find a nice place to live, and "getting in shape."  Now, of course, this means something different for everyone, so I'm due for a visit to the doctor to have all of my numbers checked (cholesterol, blood sugar, etc.).  Anything that is out of whack needs to be corrected by Thanksgiving 2010 - that's the goal.  I had everything checked four years ago and had no problems.  Given some of the stressors of the last couple of years, however, I don't know what to expect.  I only know that it will change.
