    Not sure if anyone has noticed, but I haven't checked in for a while.  I've had a lot of pain in my right knee for about a month and it now appears that I have a torn meniscus.  I'm probably going to need arthroscopic surgery, which will put me out of commission (workout-wise) for about a month.

    I really haven't done much for the last month.  I was really on a roll - doing weight work 3-4 times a week and cardio 2-3 times.  The problem is that even though it's only a knee issue, I've been afraid to do much for fear of doing more damage.  Not having a diagnosis had me dead in the water.

    My doctor has told me that I won't damage it any further, so that's good.  When I asked about exercise, he basically said to do what I want and if it hurts, stop.  So, I'm going to start to do some light upper body stuff.  The problem is that I can't do my usual heart-rate increasing warm-up (jumping jacks, toe touches, etc.)

    I just feel like such a slug, and of course my diet has suffered as well.  I haven't stepped on the scale as I'm afraid of what I'll see, but my clothes don't seem too much tighter (lol!)

    The frustrating part is that I was looking to really explore this whole P90X thing, but that will have to wait.

    Anyway, enough of my sob story.  Glad to see all of the progress that everyone has made.  Aredore - GREAT job!  You're really an inspiration.  And hang in there, Hwangman.  Keep up the good work, make sure to vary your exercise to keep it interesting, make sure to hit all areas of your body, and mix in some cardio.

    I'll keep in touch and will keep monitoring everyone's progress - everyone here is inspiring and I really like the advice that everyone gives.  I'll check in when my situation changes.

      Had to take a couple days off this week as the work/school schedule was eating me alive again. Its very difficult for me to find a way to balance the workouts in with everything when I am maxxed out.

      But I somehow lost 2.2 pounds since last week, so that's a positive.

      The tough part of my week is over, and I plan on hitting the gym tomorrow morning.

        P90X plus should be coming today. Going to do some Yoga X and then try one of the plus workouts, probably the total body and abs/core. Bring it!!!

                I wasn't able to work out for three weeks because I had to have surgery on my pinky (severed nerve & artery).  But now I'm BACK!  I can only do the machines, and I need to keep my pinky out when I'm doing them, lol.  Not only am I back at the gym, but I'm looking AWESOME doing my exercses as well.

                During the time I wasn't working out, I lost over five pounds.  I perform the amazing shrinking act when I don't work out.  I know it was pretty much all muscle that I lost, too.  I'm hoping to be working out with free weights in a month or two and be ready for another weightlifting competition before the end of the year.  Thinking about breaking a record in another league

                  Got to the gym this morning and had a great full body workout. I was again reminded of my recent absence from the gym, and had to dial back the weight a bit for several exercises. It's all good, though - it felt great to be back in the gym.

                                      Sat - treadmill, 3.3 miles, 45 minutes total, 15 minutes run at avg 5.8 mph, 30 minutes at 3.5mph and 9% avg
                                      Sun - 3 miles hiking, ~1200 feet vertical, main uphill climb in 34:40 (1.3mi, 1200 feet), ran down 1.7mi in 26 minutes (too many people on the trail, normally can do this a bit quicker), then another 0.6 miles and 300 vertical on another trail after since it was a nice day
                                      Mon - 3 miles hiking, 900 feet vertical, 55 minutes up, 45 minutes down

                                          Now, if I could do that every day, then it would work

                                            Got back to the gym today, even though I had only 4.5 hours of sleep. Good total body workout with some painful time on the bike at the end. Good stuff.

                                            Food diary (a la Funky) might not be a bad idea. Or maybe I should just start recording it myself!

                                            aredore: What do I need to start the P90X stuff? Just a bar and the videos? I'm thinking of trying those workouts and mixing them in with my regular routine.

                                                  Went for a walk at lunch yesterday. Nice pace, beautiful day, talked hockey with a co-worker...awesome!

                                                  Have to get some homework done this morning, so didn't make the gym, but plan on walking at lunch again and will definitely be at my regular session tomorrow morning.

                                                  Had a great diet day yesterday, even with eating dinner out (Buffalo Chicken Salad). I have a lot of healthy, quick snacks available again, so making good choices is much easier. Still need to incorporate a bit more water and a lot more fruits and veggies.

                                                    Just hit 6 month anniversary of no smoking. According to my calculations, I've saved about $1800.00 and didn't smoke 5400 cigarettes.

                                                    I was a pack & a half a day smoker, so..

                                                    6 months x 30 days average per month x $10.00 per day spent on cigs = $1800.00.

                                                    6 months x 30 days average per month x 30 cigs a day = 5400 cigarettes not smoked

                                                        Sure. They say that one cigarette will knock 7 minutes off your life. So.....

                                                        5400 cigs X 7 minutes = 37800 minutes or 630 hours or 26.25 days

                                                        But honestly, if feels good to take deep breaths again and to be able to run around the baseball diamond without gasping for air.

                                                        Going to run a 5K on Thanksgiving Day this year. Big event, like 20,000 people run it.

                                                              Killer chest, back and arm workout this morning! It was really tough, but it feels like I am beginning to gain some of my old form back. Had a good food day yesterday, except for some potato chips in the evening. Went for a walk at lunch yesterday and will try and do the same today if the weather cooperates.

                                                                I started really going through the shit I eat to ensure I'm not eating... shit.  A whole group of friends and I are getting together and no longer eating anything that contains high fructose or aspartame along with already regulating our salt intakes.  It's already caused us to majorly overhaul what we eat.  HFCS is in -everything-, even fucking canned soup!

                                                                So here we go.  I'm on day three, and have been making most of my food from scratch.

                                                                As for my workouts.  I haven't been dropping weight as much, but my inches continue to go, so I'm not really all that concerned.  :)

                                                                  Sorry haven't been around for a couple of days. I got a crappy sinus infection and was trying to rest rest rest... in fact I missed the last 2 days of working out. I made that up this morning. I did Legs, Back, Abs and Kenpo X non-stop and burned 1000 calories! I still need to make up Yoga later today or might do it tomorrow on my normal rest day.

                                                                  Today is a HUGE day for me. I have now lost 50 LBS!!! Last week I gained 2.9 and this week I lost that plus another 1.5, so this is huge! I said I was going to lose 100 lbs this year and I'm halfway there! Of course the more you lose, the harder it gets but I don't care. I AM GOING TO DO THIS!!!

                                                                            haven't posted in a long time but wanted to share my progress, it's going well. I've been doing ChaLEAN Extreme and posted my 60 day results. I've lost a total of 14 inches and 27 pounds. See my beofre and after pics on my BeachBody page.
