Today marks the first day of my entirely new lifestyle change. For a number of years I have been quite overweight, and I really feel like it is time to make a significant effort to better my health and my life in MANY aspects. I'm 18 years old, 5'10 with decent muscle mass, but I'm still 90 pounds overweight from my ideal and healthy weight. So now I am embarking on a properly portioned diet consisting of foods with VERY low glycemic content, which means cutting out all the tasty junk, and even some less desirable grains, fruits (such as grapes) and vegetables (baked potato for instance). I'm also starting a decent exercise routine (for the time being). Today I briskly walked 5km in roughly 50-60 minutes. It was a good workout and I managed to work up a sweat and elevate my heart rate, but I didn't burn myself out so I couldn't continue the following day. I really hope these changes constitute positive physical and mental betterment for years to come. This is really a lifestyle change that I am REALLY hoping to keep for the rest of my life. A lot of the poundage I put on was due to how horrible my eating habits were and my lack of exercise. Hopefully I start shedding pant sizes in no time.

Terrific chest session today, the shoulder is also giving no feeeling at all so slowing adding weight again, but vert slowly Just annoyed that I tweaked the back on Friday and it is still a little sore Goodness- I sound like an old woman

I'm confused. I went to the doctor yesterday for my annual and found out I gained 7 lbs. My inches hasn't changed in months. But the weight gain has made me keep better track of things on Daily Plate.

Not sure anyone noticed, but I was pretty much out of this thread last week. I had one of the busiest weeks of my life last week, and I was clearly fighting off a cold, so I skipped most of my workouts for extra sleep or to get more done. I only got a session in on Monday. The good news is that I got through the week with flying colors. Gave all my presentations, got all my homework done, ran all my meetings, got the kids where they needed to be. The week totally sucked and I was totally stressed, but results are what matters. Now it's back to normal! Class was great this morning and I could definitely feel that I had slacked last week. But I am back on track and actually a bit more focused due to last week. I had been getting progressively worse on the diet end of things, and I feel more motivated to get back on track there. So while I didn't bring it last week, I'm bringing it BACK this week!

I'm not usually one to do guided video workouts but a friend has been doing ChaLEAN Extreme for a couple months now and her results have been amazing so I started last week and let me just say this, It's kicking my butt. I have sore muscles I didn't even know I had. That's not the best part though, I actually enjoy it, even look forward to my workouts again which hasn't been the case as of late.

Lorrinda, yeah I heard that ChaLEAN extreme is a really great program as well, good luck and I'm sure you'll see amazing results!!! But I'm like you, I've never been one to do guided video workouts either. But something about P90X just hooked me. I think it's the fact that it's constantly changing and not the same thing, plus the amazing intensity! I'm a sucker for something that just blasts your body and makes you sweat buckets, LOL! BRING IT!

Back, Biceps and Abs done... whew!!! Was able to work the 30 lb dumbbell into a few moves this morning like lawnmowers and locomotive, felt niceeeee. Definitely feeling a lot of burn and soreness this week but that's how I like it :) BRING IT!!!

Went real heavy on the weights this morning. So much so that I had to dial it back for the last set on everything except for chest. Felt great to go heavy again, though, and I look forward to the DOMS. I was really sucking wind today; my toughest day in a while. Weight is going in the wrong direction. Not making good food choices lately. It's funny how bad choices feed on themselves and breed other bad choices. I was able to break that chain for lunch today, though, but the cafeteria pizza was calling my name. I had lowfat cottage cheese and chicken breasts instead. I REALLY need to get back to exercising 4-5 times per week. I just need to make it a priority and adjust my other tasks around it. Things will work themselves out. I have been doing well over the last six months and I can feel it slipping away. I steadfastly refuse to fail this time. It's happened too many times in the past and I will not endure that situation again. For me, it boils down to focus, time management and positive self-talk. Lunch today was a good start. Side note: Has anyone heard from xenowang recently? He used to be a semi-regular in last year's thread.

I know it is not news, but my key learning is that weight loss requires diet control I started the gym last January and started to watch the food, especially "bad" foods I lost a little weight by the end of August (8 months) In September I started a food diary and in the remaining four months of the year I lost more that the first 8. The discipline of writing it all down tends to stop you cheating This year I have been on a plateau as my food intake has ended up balancing the daily needs There is no way to add more exercise, so the diet needed to be back under firm control This Lent I am doing 6 weeks of draconian calorie restriction, and although it is tough, the weight has started to fall off. Not surprising, as I ma running a deficit of 1,800 calories a day Exercise = great for health and well being, but unless you are a professional athlete unlikely to deliver all your weight loss goals Diet = hard work but in the long term, consistent calories in less than calories used is the only way to slim down Diet + exercise = the Holy Grail

Funky, good to hear and well done. Its great this weigh loss lark isnt it?! one question though- How do you plan to maintain your loss/weight once you go back on 'solids' again? There is evidence about to show that it not the best way of maintaining weight as once you stop the weight usually pile back on again. Just interested. keep it up!

I have done the shake thing before and found it very difficult to keep the weight off once solds started again. Using Food Optimising i have lost an average of half a pound a week over 2 years- 56lbs so far. The weight has fluctuated a bit, but has been so far, much easire to keep off and maintain. On a plateau at the moent though, need a push to break through the barrier! Perhaps more exercise is the key.

Holy crap today was tough! LOTS of reps on chest and back, with some arm and ab work thrown in for good measure. I almost overslept and missed class, but ended only being a couple minutes late. All good! Planning to get a workout in Sunday morning to make up for my lack of Tues/Thurs workouts this week. Funky: Sleep is key. I am so much more focused when I have enough sleep. I make much better choices, too.

Didn't get my Sunday workout in - no excuses, I just slacked - but had an excellent workout this morning. Went heavier than normal with the weight again just to see where I was and was pleasantly surprised. I'm going to the damn gym tomorrow morning if it kills me!

Great session this morning Shoulders and then a hard cardio finish I have had to rethink the diet, it was too extreme 1,200 calories a day was running too high a calorie deficit resulting in a pound weight loss every other day Also, it was adversely affecting the ahem, bowels So I have now added some extra calories by adding a high fibre museli with fruits and nuts in the evening instead of the third shake I will still be running a deficit but hopefully enough to support 1-1.5 pounds loss per week
