I don't mean to hijack the thread, but if I was going to get a PC, what company (brand) would you recommend? I just want it for surfing, play music, MAYBE record some stuff in the future, and play the occasional game or two.

It's really hit and miss these days.  Not a big fan of Dell.  Every Dell machine I've been forced to use in the last decade or so has been weak compared to similar priced clones.  But, my friend's brand new Dell (very high-end one) screams so it's really hard to say.  I use Apples and HPs and have been happy with both.  Have you tried going to a Best Buy and playing around on a bunch of different boxes to see what you like?  Or, try www.newegg.com and read reviews.  You should be able to get a decent PC for under a thousand bucks that will do all the things you want to do.

I'm an HP man, right now got an Envy laptop that is blanking itself constantly so i'm in the process of swapping it or maybe getting a refund.

I'm on the edge to switch to Macs.  The wife wants one too.  So... i'm planning to go an imac 27 with a big enough HD to install win 7 if i find i miss it.  I'm up for something new with OSX, i'll be using Archicad AND Logic/Garageband.  We used to do music recording and after 8 years feel like getting back into it for funsies...
I don't play any games whatsoever and i just surf the net so i figure i'm not really missing out on anything by leaving the PC world.  The wife... all she does is play freecell and surf.  She'll also be going for Archicad and Logic.

Will i regret it?  maybe, Archicad DOES run on pc and there are numerous recording programs out there, but i'm up for a challenge/disappointment!  It's something we'll learn together this time, rather than me doing all the tech stuff for the both of us.

      yay!  or nay?

starclassics...that is EXACTLY the scenario I was in three years ago.  I bought an Imac and Logic and never looked back.
